Time series of gridded surface wind and wind-stress vectors over the world ocean have been constructed by satellite scatterometer data. The products are derived from the ERS-l,2 covering 9 years during 1992-2000 and the Sea Winds on board QuikSCAT (Qscat) which has been operating up to the present since June 1999, so they allows us to analyze variabilities with various time scales. In this study, we focus on interannual variability of the wind stress in the mid- and high-latitude region of North Pacific. These are compared with those by numerical weather prediction(NWP) ones (NCEP Reanalysis). We also examine variability in the wind-stress curl field that is an important factor for ocean dynamics and focus its time and spatial characters in the northwestern Pacific around Japan. It is found that the vorticity field in the lower atmosphere tends to increase gradually with time, suggesting the enhancement of the North Pacific subtropical gyre.

Atmospheric lead concentrations in Seoul were monitored for ten years from January 1984 to June 1993 using X-ray fluorescence Spectrometer. 342 aerosol samples were collected using high volume samplers at two sites : one at Chungang University campus from 1984 to 1988 and the other at Yonsei University campus from 1989 to 1993. Lead concentration increased steadily from about 300ng/㎥ to the maximum of about 600ng/㎥ in 1988 and then decreased, and this is similar to the pattern of Korean leaded gasoline sales implying that Korean automobile emission is the main source. However, the emission from nation's coal combustion appeared to be substantial as welt, and this emmision is the major cause for the secondary feature strong seasonal variability. Lead concentration varied systematically from season to season, low in summer and high in winter. The region's characteristic climate, frequent and heavy precipitations in summer and dry in winter is considered to be another cause for the seasonal variability.

The seasonal variability of sonic layer depth (SLD) in the central Arabian Sea (CAS) (0 to $25^{\circ}N$ and $62-66^{\circ}E$) was studied using the temperature and salinity (T/S) profiles from Argo floats for the years 2002-2006. The atmospheric forcing responsible for the observed changes was explored using the meteorological data from NCEP/NCAR and Quickscat winds. SLD was obtained from sound velocity profiles computed from T/S data. Net heat flux and wind forcing regulated SLD in the CAS. Up-welling and down-welling (Ekman dynamics) associated with the Findlater Jet controlled SLD during the summer monsoon. While in winter monsoon, cooling and convective mixing regulated SLD in the study region. Weak winds, high insolation and positive net heat flux lead to the formation of thin, warm and stratified sonic layer during pre and post summer monsoon periods, respectively.
Metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) are continuously scaling down in the nanoscale region to improve the functionality of integrated circuits. The scaling down of MOSFET devices causes short-channel effects in the nanoscale region. In nanoscale region, leakage current components are increasing, resulting in substantial power dissipation. Very large-scale integration designers are constantly exploring different effective methods of mitigating the power dissipation. In this study, a transistor-level input-controlled stacking (ICS) approach is proposed for minimizing significant power dissipation. A low-power ICS approach is extensively discussed to verify its importance in low-power applications. Circuit reliability is monitored for process and voltage and temperature variations. The ICS approach is designed and simulated using Cadence's tools and compared with existing low-power and high-speed techniques at a 22-nm technology node. The ICS approach decreases power dissipation by 84.95% at a cost of 5.89 times increase in propagation delay, and improves energy dissipation reliability by 82.54% compared with conventional circuit for a ring oscillator comprising 5-inverters.
Because groundwater recharge shows spatial-temporal variability due to climatic conditions, it is necessary to investigate land use and hydrogeological heterogeneity, and estimate the spatial variability in the daily recharge rate based on an integrated surface-groundwater model. The integrated SWAT-MODFLOW model was applied to compute physically based daily groundwater recharge in the Jincheon region. The temporal variations in estimated recharge were calibrated using the observed groundwater head at several National Groundwater Monitoring Stations and at automatic groundwater-monitoring sites constructed during the Basic Groundwater Investigation Project (2009-2010). For the whole Mihocheon watershed, including the Jincheon region, the average groundwater recharge rate is estimated to be 20.8% of the total rainfall amount, which is in good agreement with the analytically estimated recharge rate. The proposed methodology will be a useful tool in the management of groundwater in Korea.
Preliminary time-series observations for short-period variability survey (SPVS) were carried out using a 155mm refractor and a $2k{\times}3k$ CCD camera at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory. We found 21 new variable stars in the $90'{\times}60'$ test field region : 9 eclipsing binary stars, $5{\delta}$ Scuti type stars, a ${\gamma}$ Doradus type star, and 6 long period variables. The observing field center is R.A. $05^h\;00^m\;00^s$, DEC. $50^{\circ}\;00'\;00"$ (J2000.0). The period and amplitude ranges for the short-period variables, i.e., ${\delta}$ Scuti stars, were 0.052day - 0.107day and 0.012mag - 0.064mag, respectively.

Extreme precipitation events have recently become a leading cause of disasters. Thus, investigating the variability and trends of extreme precipitation is crucial to mitigate the increasing impact of such events. Spatial distribution and temporal trends in annual precipitation and four extreme precipitation indices of duration (CWD), frequency (R10 mm), intensity (Rx1day), and percentile-based threshold (R95pTOT) were analyzed using the daily precipitation data of 10 observation stations in Chungcheong province during 1974-2020. The precipitation at all observation stations, except the Boryeong station, showed nonsignificant increasing trends at 95% confidence level (CL) and increasing magnitudes from the west to east regions. The high variability in mean annual precipitation was more pronounced around the northeast and northwest regions. Similarly, there were moderate to high patterns in extreme precipitation indices around the northeast region. However, the precipitation indices of duration and frequency consistently increased from the west to east regions, while those of intensity and percentile-based threshold increased from the south to east regions. Nonsignificant increasing trends dominated in CWD, R10 mm, and Rx1day at all stations, except for R10 mm at Boeun station and Rx1day at Cheongju and Jecheon stations, which showed a significantly increasing trend. The spatial distribution of trend magnitude shows that R10 mm increased from the west to east regions. Furthermore, variations in precipitation were very strongly correlated (99% CL) with R10 mm, Rx1day, and R95pTOT at all stations, except with wR10 mm at Cheongju station, which was strongly correlated with a 95% CL.
Recently, there has been a growing interest in physical-biological ocean-modeling systems by communities in the fields of science and business. In this paper, we present preliminary results from a coupled physical-biological model for the Northwestern Pacific marginal seas. The ocean circulation component is an implementation of the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS), and the lower trophic level ecosystem component is a Nutrient-Phytoplankton-Zooplankton-Detritus (NPZD) model. The ROMS-NPZD coupled system, with a 25 km resolution, is forced by climatological atmospheric data and predicts the physical variables and concentrations of nitrate, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and detritus. Model results are compared with remote-sensed sea surface temperature and chlorophyll, and with climatological sea surface salinity and nitrate. Our model adequately reproduces the observed spatial distribution and seasonal variability of nitrate and chlorophyll concentrations as well as physical variables, showing a high correlation in the East Sea (ES) and Kuroshio/Oyashio Extension (KOE) region but relatively low correlation in the Yellow Sea (YS) and East China Sea (ECS). Although some deficiencies were found in the biological components, such as the over/underestimation of the intensity of phytoplankton blooms in the ES and KOE/the YS and ECS, our system demonstrates the capability of the model to capture and record dominant seasonal variability in physical-biological processes and this holds out the promise of coming to a better understanding of such processes and making better predictions .
To analyze the regional impact of air temperature increase and precipitation variation on water resources, the variability of precipitation-effectiveness (P-E) ratio which is estimated using precipitation and air temperature data of 59 weather stations operated by the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) during 1973~2009 was analyzed. Also runoff data resulting from the Precipitation-Runoff Modelling System (PRMS) modelling were analyzed during 1966~2007. The overall spatio-temporal variability of P-E ratio and runoff data in South Korea is corresponding to the variability of precipitation amount. However some region shows that the P-E ratio decreases even though the trend of precipitation amount increases which may be caused by the air temperature increase. Runoff trend is similar to that of P-E ratio. Precipitation and P-E ratio have decreased all seasons except summer season and it means the reduction of available water resources during those seasons. These variability should be reflected in the spring, fall, and winter water supply strategy.

The analysis of power spectrum based on linear AR model is applied widely to quantize the response of autonomic nerve noninvasively, In this paper, we estimate the power spectrum density for heartrate variability of the electrocadiogram and pulse wave for short term data(less than two minute), The time series of heart rate variability is obtained from the time interval(RRI, PPI) between the feature point of the electrocadiogram and pulse wave for normal person, The generated time series reconstructed into new time series through polynomial interpolation to apply to the AR mode. The power spectrum density for AR model is calculated by Burg algorithm, After applying AR model, the power spectrum density for heart rate variability of the electrocadiogram and the pulse wave is shown smooth spectrum power at the region of low frequence and high frequence, and that the power spectrum density of electrocadiogram and pulse wave has similar form for same subject.
