  • The permanent magnet synchronous motor has high efficiency driving performance and high power density output characteristics compared with other motors. In addition, it has good regenerative operation characteristics during braking and deceleration driving condition. For this reason, permanent magnet synchronous motor is generally applied as a power train motor for electrical vehicle. In permanent magnet synchronous motor, the most probable causes of fault are demagnetization of rotor's permanent magnet and short of stator winding turn. Therefore, the demagnetization fault of permanent magnet and turn fault of stator winding should be detected quickly to reduce the risk of accident and to prevent the progress of breakdown of power train system. In this paper, the fault diagnosis method using high frequency low voltage injection was suggested to diagnose the demagnetization fault of rotor permanent magnet and the turn fault of stator winding. The proposed fault diagnosis method can be used to check the faults of permanent magnet synchronous motor during system check-up process at vehicle starting and idling stop mode. The feasibility and usefulness of the proposed method were verified by the finite element analysis.

  • Degenerative retinal diseases affect millions of people worldwide, which can lead to the loss of vision. However, therapeutic approaches that can reverse this process are limited. Recent efforts have allowed the possibility of the stem cell-based regeneration of retinal cells and repair of injured retinal tissues. Although the direct differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into terminally differentiated photoreceptor cells comprises one approach, a series of studies revealed the intrinsic regenerative potential of the retina using endogenous retinal stem cells. Muller glial cells, ciliary pigment epithelial cells, and retinal pigment epithelial cells are candidates for such retinal stem cells that can differentiate into multiple types of retinal cells and be integrated into injured or developing retina. In this review, we explore our current understanding of the cellular identity of these candidate retinal stem cells and their therapeutic potential for cell therapy against degenerative retinal diseases. • In this paper we consider open queueing system with a Poisson arrival process which have a finite upper bound on the arrival rate for which the system is stable. Interpolation approximations for quantities of interest, such as moments of the sojourn time distribution, have previously been developed for such systems, utilizing exact light and heavy traffic limits. These limits cannot always be easily computed for complex systems. Thus we consider an interpolation approximation where all of the relevant information is estimated via simulation. We show that all the relevant information can in fact be simultaneously estimated in a single regenerative simulation at any arrival rate. In addition to light and heavy traffic limits, both the quantity of interest and its derivative (with respect to the arrival rate) are estimated at the arrival rate of the simulation. All of the estimates are then combined, using a least squares procedure, to provide an interpolation approximation.

  • In this paper, effect of recharging power by using ESS(Energy Storage System) was investigated when ESS was applied to the train. The recharging power was analyzed and measured. Also, by applying ALVT algorithm, effective recharging and discharging were studied. By using this process, recharging and discharging of the super capacitor were improved which led to enhancing the use of recharging power from the urban Railway vehicles.

  • We consider a priority-based multiclass queue with probabilistic feed-back. There are J service stations. Each customer belongs to one of the several priority classes, and the customers of each class arrive at each station in a Poisson process. A single server serves queued customers on a priority basis with a nonpreemptive scheduling discipline. The customers who complete their services feed back to the system instantaneously and join one of the queues of the stations or depart from the system according to a given probability. In this paper, we propose a new method to simplify the analysis of these queueing systems. By the analysis of busy periods and regenerative processes, we clarify the underlying system structure, and systematically obtain the mean for the sojourn time, i.e., the time from the arrival to the departure from the system, of a customer at every station. The mean for the number of customers queued in each station at an arbitrary time is also obtained simultaneously.

  • Tooth related factors such as palatoradicular groove can be one of the causes for localized periodontal destruction. Such pathological process may result in apicomarginal defect along with inflammation of pulp. This creates challenging situation which clinician must be capable of performing advanced periodontal regenerative procedures for the successful management. This case report discusses clinical management of apicomarginal defect associated with extensive periradicular destruction in a maxillary lateral incisor, along with histopathologic aspect of the lesion.

  • Cellular senescence is a state of permanent cell-cycle arrest triggered by different internal and external stimuli. This phenomenon is considered to be both beneficial and detrimental depending on the cell types and biological contexts. During normal embryonic development and after tissue injury, cellular senescence is critical for tissue remodeling. In addition, this process is useful for arresting growth of tumor cells, particularly during early onset of tumorigenesis. However, accumulation of senescent cells decreases tissue regenerative capabilities and induces inflammation, which is responsible for cancer and organismal aging. Therefore cellular senescence has to be tightly regulated, and dysregulation might lead to the aging and human diseases. Among many regulators of cellular senescence, in this review, I will focus on microRNAs, small non-coding RNAs playing critical roles in diverse biological events including cellular senescence.

  • Regeneration, a process of reconstitution of the entire tissue, occurs throughout life in the olfactory epithelium (OE). Regeneration of OE consists of several stages: proliferation of progenitors, cell fate determination between neuronal and non-neuronal lineages, their differentiation and maturation. How the differentiated cell types that comprise the OE are regenerated, is one of the central questions in olfactory developmental neurobiology. The past decade has witnessed considerable progress regarding the regulation of transcription factors (TFs) involved in the remarkable regenerative potential of OE. Here, we review current state of knowledge of the transcriptional regulatory networks that are powerful modulators of the acquisition and maintenance of developmental stages during regeneration in the OE. Advance in our understanding of regeneration will not only shed light on the basic principles of adult plasticity of cell identity, but may also lead to new approaches for using stem cells and reprogramming after injury or degenerative neurological diseases.

  • Avian and mammalian skeletal muscles exhibit a remarkable ability to adjust to physiological stressors induced by growth, exercise, injury and disease. The process of muscle recovery following injury and myonuclear accretion during growth is attributed to a small population of satellite cells located beneath the basal lamina of the myofiber. Several metabolic factors contribute to the activation of satellite cells in response to stress mediated by illness, injury or aging. This review will describe the regenerative properties of satellite cells, the processes of satellite cell activation and highlight the potential role of satellite cells in skeletal muscle growth, tissue engineering and meat production.

  • High speed and heavy cutting performed for improving the surface quality and productivity, are often prevented due to chatter phenomena. Chatter is a violent relative vibration between workpiece and tool in machining of metals, and is an important limiting factor of production rate and surface quality, and reduces the tool life and the dynamic performance of machine tool itself. In this study, in order to suppress the chatter, a modified tool-post combined with the spring and damper was designed and used in the actual cutting test. The results of this study are summerized as follows; The spring and damper adopted in the modified tool-post have the suppressing effects of chatter, and there exists an optimum combination between spring constant and damping ratio.
