In order to study unconsolidated sediments upstream of the Soyang Dam, seismic refraction data were recorded along five profiles of 94 m length. Receiver interval and record length were 2 m and 204 ms, respectively. Recorded data were analyzed using the traveltime tomography and delay-time methods in order to reveal sediment distribution in the investigation site. The acoustic basements are buried at approximately 14 m deep and their thickness shallows to southeast approaching to a hill. On the basement, pre-existing sediments deposited before construction of the Soyang dam lies. This sedimentary layer is composed of paleo-soil and sandy sediments. Above this layer, recent sediments comprise the top layer which is believed to have been deposited since the formation of the dam. Average thickness of this uppermost layer is approximately 1.6 m, which is much thicker than in the downstream.

In this study, a method has been developed for estimating the change of nearshore random waves in response to sea-level rise, by extending the method proposed for regular waves by Townend in 1994. The relative changes in wavelength, refraction coefficient, shoaling coefficient, and wave height for random waves are presented as functions of relative change in water depth. The changes in wavelength and refraction coefficient are calculated by using the significant wave period and principal wave direction in the regular-wave formulas. On the other hand, the changes in shoaling coefficient and wave height are calculated by using the formulas proposed for shoaling and transformation of random waves in the nearshore area including surf zone. The results are proposed in the form of both formulas and graphs. In particular, the relative change in wave height is compared with the result for regular waves.
Geophysical surveys(seismic refraction, electrical resistivity, and ground penetrating radar) were performed to delineate the weathering zone associated with vadose water in Chojeong area and investigate the fault related fracture zones. On the basis of seismic velocity structures, weathering layer for the southwestern part is interpreted to be deeper than for the northeastern part. The depth to bedrock(i.e., thickness of weathered zone) from seismic refraction data attempted to be correlated with drill-core data and groundwater level. As for the investigation of geological discontinuities such as fault related fracture zone, seismic refraction, electrical resistivity, and ground penetrating data are compositely employed in terms of velocity and resistivity structures for mapping of surface boundary of the discontinuities up to shallow depth. Surface boundaries of fracture zone are well indicated in seismic velocity and electrical resistivity structures. Accurate estimation of weathered zone and fracture zone can be successfully available for mapping of attitude of vadose water layer.
Landslides is mainly induced by a heavy rainfall, earthquake ground motion, and some other factors like soil mechanics, morphological-geological factors etc. Since the starting point of the failure seemed to be originated at a construction site in the study, it is meaningful to find out the relationship between the landslide and the construction. For this study, the slope failure factor was examined carefully to see that the original natural slope had vulnerability and that the complex ground had unstability changed by construction. A field survey was conducted on the original ground surface and filled-up ground. A laboratory test was also conducted to determine the geomechanical properties of soil samples. 2D and 3D limit equilibrium analysis with changing groundwater level were conducted at the failure depth using a seismic refraction survey. The result shows that the factor of safety is similar stability under all condition, but unstable under saturated condition.

For monitoring the flight trajectory and the status of a launch vehicle, the mission control system in NARO space center process data acquired from the ground tracking system, which consists of two tracking radars, four telemetry stations, and one electro-optical tracking system. Each tracking unit exhibits its own tracking error mainly due to multi-path, clutter and radio refraction, and by utilizing only one among transmitted informations, it is not possible to determine the actual vehicle trajectory. This paper presents a way of generating flight trajectory via post-processing the data received from the ground tracking system. The post-processing algorithm is divided into two parts: compensation for atmosphere radio refraction and multi-sensor fusion, for which a decentralized Kalman filter was adopted and implemented based on constant acceleration model. Applications of the present scheme to real data resulted in the flight trajectory where the tracking errors were minimized than done by any one sensor.
Two-dimensional S-wave velocity sections from SH-wave refraction tomography and surface wave dispersions were obtained by inverting traveltimes of first arrivals and surface wave dispersions, respectively. For the purpose of comparison, a P-wave velocity tomogram was also obtained from a P-wave refraction profiling. P and Rayleigh waves generated by vertical blows on a plate with a sledgehammer were received by 100- and 4.5-Hz geophones, respectively. SH-waves generated by horizontal blows on both sides of a 50 kg timber were received by 8 Hz horizontal geophones. The shear-wave signals were enhanced subtracting data of left-side blows from ones of the right-side blows. Shear-wave velocities from tomography inversion of first-arrival times were compared with ones from inverting dispersion curves of Rayleigh waves. Although the two velocity sections look similar to each other in general, the one from the surface waves tends to have lower velocities. First arrival picking of SH waves is troublesome since P and PS-converted waves arrive earlier than SH waves. Application of the surface wave method, on the other hand, is limited where lateral variation of subsurface tructures
is not mild.

Objectives: Considering high prevalence of myopia in Asian countries, social cost paid for myopia may gradually increase in Korea. However, studies for developing myopia treatment are deficient. The study was to evaluate whether the periocular acupressure with a medical massager is effective for suppressing myopia progression. Methods: This study was an investigator-sponsored, prospective, open-labeled, and superiority pre and post single-armed study. 14 myopia children aged 7-12 years wore a medical massager for 15 minutes to stimulate periocular acupoints. For 24 weeks, the participants used the device twice a day. Based on prior studies, the refraction change of naturally proceeded myopia was set as -0.38 D. The axial length change of naturally proceeded myopia was set as 0.228 mm. To assess the safety, we performed vital sign check, physical examination, visual acuity test, slit lamp examination, IOP measurement, and fundus examination. Results: The refraction and axial length of the participants increased. For 24 weeks, the change in refraction was -0.38 D at the right eye and -0.40 D at the left. The change in axial length was 0.21 mm at the right and 0.22 mm at the left. In the safety assessment, any adverse event did not occur. Conclusions: There was no significant difference between the control group and the intervention group. The effect of growth may have more contributed to our result than that of acupressure. Based on our result, a full-scale study will not be conducted.
Purpose. This study was the analyze the refractive status of presbyopia in Korea. Methods. The subjects was from November 2018 to October 2019, two hundred thirty four subjects( 117 male subjects, 117 female subjects; from 40-year old to 88-year old ) were performed in refraction test using the Auto-Refraction(Speed -K model, Japan). The myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and anisometropia were defined as spherical equivalent(SE)≤-0.50 diopters, SE ≥+1.00 D, cylinder error ≥0.75 D and SE difference≥1.00 D between binocular eyes, respectively. Results. The refractive status by spherical equivalent among all subjects was myopia 61.43%, astigmatism 86.86%, emmetropia 19.18%, anisometropia 12.07%, and hyperopia 18.54. The prevalence of myopia and astigmatism were much more common in male. However, The hyperopia and astigmatism were much more common in female. The prevalence of spherical equivalent was much common from -0.50 diopter to -5.00 diopter. On the other hand, the prevalence of astigmatism and myopia was much more than hyperopia in all subjects. There was a statistical significance between OD and OS of the female and male in the spherical equivalent power(p<.000). However, there was not statical significant between female and male of OD and OS in the spherical equivalent power(p<.070). On the other hand, The prevalence of againest axis in astigmatism was more common in all subjects. In ADD power for the near vision correction, the female was much more diopter than male. Conclusions. These results suggested that the analysis of the refractive status on the presbyopia in Korea can give the useful diagnosis data for the correction of visual acuity at near distance.

Recently, multi-dimensional joint inversion of geophysical data based on fundamentally different physical properties is being actively studied. Joint inversion can provide a way to obtaining much more accurate image of the subsurface structure. Through the joint inversion, furthermore, it is possible to directly estimate non-geophysical material properties from geophysical measurements. In this study, we developed a new algorithm for jointly inverting dc resistivity and seismic traveltime data based on the multiple constraints: (1) structural similarity based on cross-gradient, (2) correlation between two different material properties, and (3) a priori information on the material property distribution. Through the numerical experiments of surface dc resistivity and seismic refraction surveys, the performance of the proposed algorithm was demonstrated and the effects of different regularizations were analyzed. In particular, we showed that the hidden layer problem in the seismic refraction method due to an inter-bedded low velocity layer can be solved by the joint inversion when appropriate constraints are applied.
From refraction data along four seismic profiles near Eonyang which the Yangsan fault passes through, the Slope Variation Indicators (SVI) are computed and interpreted in terms of fault distribution. The average velocities of 2,250-2,870 m/s are estimated using velocity-analysis functions for the target boundary along those profiles. The average velocity for Line 1 is approximately 600 m/s lower than ones for the other lines. The SVI's with amplitude greater than or equal to 0.5 ms/m are turned out to be located near faults shown on the high-resolution reflection section, as closely as one station spacing (3 m). Large amplitude SVI's are densely distributed near National Road 35, and the fault having the largest vertical slip is indicated to be located approximately 930 m west of the inferred fault on the published geologic map.
