국소의치용 티나늄의 피로도 및 물리적 성질에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE FATIGUE AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF TITANIUM USED IN REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the fatigue, physical properties, flexibility and surface roughness of titanium used in removable partial dentures with those of a type IV and alloy and a cobalt- chromium alloy. Fatigue testing subjected the test specimen to rapid cycling at a given stress until failure occurred by using a small-sized, electrodynamic type bending fatigue testing machine. The S-N curves for the framework materials were generated. For tensile testing, a tensile bar as described in the ADA Specification No.14 was subjected to tensile loading until failure occurred. Load-displacement curves were generated for 18 gauge round specimen and tapered half round specimen. Then the flexibilities were calculated. The surface roughnesses were compared by analyzer. Through analyses of the data, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. The fatigue property of titanium was higher than that of a type IV gold alloy$(p\leq0.05)$, but there was no significant difference between titanium and a cobalt-chromium alloy $(p\geq0.05)$. 2. The yield strength, the ultimate tensile strength and Victors hardness of titanium were higher than those of a type IV gold alloy but lower than those of a coalt-chromium alloy$(p\leq0.05)$. 3. The percentage of elongation and reduction of area of titanium were the highest $(p\leq0.05)$. 4. The surface roughness of titanium was the greatest$(p\leq0.05)$. 5. The flexibility of titanium was lower than that of a type IV gold alloy but higher than that of a cobalt-chromium alloy$(p\leq0.05)$.

도금업체 공정별 근로자의 총크롬 및 6가 크롬 노출 평가 (Worker Exposure Assessment on Airborne Total Chromium and Hexavalent Chromium by Process in Electroplating Factories)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine characteristics of workers' exposures to airborne total and hexavalent chromium by job title in electroplating processes. Methods: Total Cr was determined through a modified method based on NIOSH Method 7024. Airborne hexavalent Cr, Cr(VI), was sampled and extracted according to NIOSH Method 7600 and analyzed at 520 nm using an ion chromatograph/visible detector. Results: The geometric mean(GM) of total Cr concentrations from all factories was $11.2{\mu}g/m^3$(GSD=4.9). The GM of Cr(VI) concentrations from all factories was $2.84{\mu}g/m$ (GSD=5.2), and the concentrations among factories were significantly different (p<0.05). The Cr(VI) levels were lower than total Cr levels. Total Cr exposure levels were highest among buffing workers ($21.6{\mu}g/m^3$), but Cr(VI) levels were highest among plating workers($4.15{\mu}g/m^3$). The concentrations of Cr(VI) and total Cr from plating tasks was highly correlated(r=0.91). Conclusions: In the electroplating industry, plating workers were mainly exposed to Cr(VI), but others were not. Oxidation-reduction states of Cr and job titles should be considered in the exposure or risk assessments of chrome electroplating factories.

Effect of $Cr^{6+}$ Stress on Photosynthetic Pigments and Certain Physiological Processes in the Cyanobacterium Anacystis nidulans and Its Chromium Resistant Strain

  • A MNNG (N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine) induced chromium resistant strain ($Cr^{r}18$) of unicellular cyanobacterium Anacystis nidulans has been isolated and characterized. The resistant strain could grow (although restricted to $50\%$ of control) in chromium concentration (180${\mu}M$) lethal to the wild-type. Sublethal ($160{\mu}M$) concentration of $Cr^{6+}$ significantly reduced (13-$37.5$) all the photosynthetic pigments of A. nidulans with maximum reduction in phycoerythrin followed by ChI $\alpha$. Pigments of A. nidulans were drastically decreased in lethal concentration of Cr^{6+} with maximum reduction in phycoerythrin ($75\%$) and allophycocyanin ($67.5\%$). Resistant strain $Cr^{r}18$ resisted toxic effects of sublethal and lethal concentrations of $Cr^{6+}$ on photosynthetic pigments as revealed by less decrease in pigments as compared to A. nidulans. Effect of $Cr^{6+}$ stress was also studied on nitrogen assimilation and phosphate uptake. Sublethal concentration of $Cr^{6+}$ drastically reduced ($71.5\%$) nitrate uptake by A. nidulans while a decrease of $29\%$ was observed in strain $Cr^{r}18$. Short (2 day) exposure of A. nidulans and its resistant strain $Cr^{r}18\;to\;Cr^{6+}$ did not affect nitrate reductase and glutamine synthetase (transferase), whereas longer (10 day) exposure to $Cr^{6+}$ lowered activities of both enzymes in A. nidulans but not significantly in the strain $Cr^{r}18$. Ammonium uptake by both strains was not affected by $Cr^{6+}$. Thus, $Cr^{6+}$ affected photosynthetic pigments, nitrogen assimilation, and phosphate uptake of A. nidulans, while strain $Cr^{r}18$ was able to resist toxic effects of the metal. Advantages of using strain $Cr^{r}18$ for bioremediation purposes have been evaluated by studying $Cr^{6+}$ removal from the solution. Resistant strain $Cr^{r}18$ was able to remove $33\%$ more $Cr^{6+}$ than A. nidulans and thus it can prove to be a good candidate for bioremediation of $Cr^{6+}$ from polluted waters.

중크롬산이온의 음극 환원반응 (Cathodic Reduction of Dichromate Ion)

  • 산성용액중에서 백금음극을 사용하여 중크롬산이온의 환원을 전위주사법 및 정전위전해에 의하여 검토하였다. 지지전해질로서 황산나트륨(pH 1.5∼4.0)을 사용한 비완충용액중의 중크롬산칼륨의 분극곡선은 3단파가 생기며 첫째파 및 둘째파의 파고는 각각 크롬(Ⅵ)농도 및 수소이온의 활동도에 비례하나 셋째파는 어느 것에도 비례하지 않았다. 첫째 및 둘째 peak이 전류는 전위주사속도(${\nu}$)에 비례하나 셋째 peak는 50mV/sec이하의 늦은 주사속도에서 ${\nu}^{1/2}$에 비례하였다. 정전위전해에 의하면, 크롬(Ⅵ)의 환원은 셋째 peak보다 더 base이고 초기 pH가 약 2.3 이상이 되면 완전히 억제되었다. 그러므로 이 세 peak는 각각 $Cr_2O_7^{\to}Cr^{3+},\;2H^+{\to}H_2$ 및 음극피막의 형성으로 간주하였다.

시멘트 6가 크롬 (Cr(VI))정량분석법에 관한 고찰 - 분석과정에서 Cr(VI) 의 환원에 따른 오차제어- (Reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) under acidic conditions during its determination in cement)

  • 시멘트내 6가 크롬의 분석은, 산성조건에서 6가 크롬이 디페닐카르바지드(DPC)와 결합하여 적자색의 착화합물을 형성하는 것을 원리로 한다. 그러나 6가 크롬은 산성조건에서 강한 산화력을 가지고 있기 때문에 철, 황화물, 유기물 등이 존재하는 경우 해당물질을 산화시키고 3가로 환원된다. 시멘트에는철, 황화물 등의 다양한 환원물질이 존재하기 때문에 분석과정에서 6가 크롬이 과소측정될 가능성이있다. 본 논문에서는 최근 제정된 "시멘트 중 6가 크롬의 정량분석 방법 (KS L 5221)"의 근간이 되는 JCAS I-51 실험방법 중 황산첨가 후 DPC 첨가의 경과시간에 따른 6가 크롬의 실험오차에 대해 검증하였다. 실험결과 황산첨가 후 시간이 경과함에 따라 측정되는 6가 크롬의 농도가 감소하였으며 감소효과는 시멘트마다 다르게 나타내었다. 인위적으로 용출액에 크롬을 첨가한 후 회수율을 측정한 결과, 산-DPC를 동시에 투입한 경우 $94.3{\sim}106.7$%의 회수율을 나타내었다.

WASTE LEAVES AS REACTIVE MEDIA IN PERMEABLE REACTIVE BARRIERS FOR CR(VI) REMOVAL

  • Hexavalent chromium in aqueous solutions was successfully removed via sorption and reduction in the presence of waste leaves. Cr(VI) removal followed a first-order reaction, and removal rates were proportional to the amount of waste leaves used in the tests. Most of Cr(VI) were removed via sorption in early stages of the tests, but the reduction reaction played a significant role in Cr(VI) removal later. Solution pHs were continuously decreased due to the microbial activity, which was induced from the microorganisms attached on waste leaves. The decreased solution pHs further enhanced the sorption and reduction of Cr(VI). To characterize the microorganisms found in the tests, a denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) method was used. The majority of microorganisms were composed of Bacillus sp. which can reduce Cr(VI). Thus, waste leaves can be effective reactive media for the treatment of Cr(VI) in the subsurface.

Intergranular Corrosion Mechanism of Slightly-sensitized and UNSM-treated 316L Stainless Steel

  • 316L stainless steels have been widely used in many engineering fields, because of their high corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. However, welding or aging treatment may induce intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking etc. Since these types of corrosion are closely related to the formation of chromium carbide in grain boundaries, the alloys are controlled by methods such as the lowering of carbon content, solution heat treatment. This work focused on the intergranular corrosion mechanism of slightly-sensitized and Ultrasonic Nano-crystal Surface Modification (UNSM)-treated 316L stainless steel. Samples were sensitized for 1, 5, and 48 hours at $650^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ gas atmosphere. Subsequently UNSM treatments were carried out on the surface of the samples. The results were discussed on the basis of the sensitization by chromium carbide and carbon segregation, the residual stress and grain refinement. Even though chromium carbide was not precipitated, the intergranular corrosion rate of 316L stainless steel was drastically increased with aging time, and it was confirmed that the increased intergranular corrosion rate of slightly-sensitized (not carbide formed) 316L stainless steel was due to the carbon segregation along the grain boundaries. However, UNSM treatment improved the intergranular corrosion resistance of aged stainless steels, and its improvement was due to the reduction of carbon segregation and the grain refinement of the outer surface, including the introduction of compressive residual stress.

Ion Chromatography/Visible Absorbance Detection을 이용한 Cr(VI) 분석의 정확도 및 정밀도 평가 (Accuracy and Precision of Ion Chromatography/Visible Absorbance Detection for Analyzing Hexavalent Chromium Collected on PVC Filter)

  • The accuracy and precision of a modified method of NIOSH Method 7600 and EPA method 218.6 was determined for analyzing hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), collected on PVC filter from workplace air. The method was designed to extract from Cr(VI) on PVC filter with a alkali solution, 2% NaOH/3% $Na_2CO_3$, and to analyze it using ion chromatography/visible absorbance detection(IC/VAD). The results and conclusion are as the following. 1. The peak of Cr(VI) was separated sharply on chromatogram and was linearly related with Cr(VI) concentration in sloution. The correlation coefficient was 0.9999 in a calibration curve. The limit of detection was 0.25 $0.25{\mu}g/sample$. 2. The accuracy(% recovery) was 93.3% in a set of sample($9-50{\mu}g$) stored for a day, and 100.1%($10-60{\mu}g$) in another set of samples stored for 2 hours. It is assumed that the difference in recovery by storage time was due to reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III). 3. The precision(coefficient of variation, CV) of the method was 0.015 in spiked samples with Cr(VI) standard solution, and 0.010 in spiked samples with plating solution from a chrome electroplating factory. The overall CV in all types of samples was 0.0013. 4. The Cr(VI) was stable in 2% NaOH/3% $Na_2CO_3$ at least for 10 hours. In conclusion, the IC/VAD method is appropriate for determining low-level Cr(VI) in workplace air containing various interferences.

Characteristics of a Novel Acinetobacter sp. and Its Kinetics in Hexavalent Chromium Bioreduction

  • Cr-B2, a Gram-negative hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] reducing bacteria, was isolated from the aerator water of an activated sludge process in the wastewater treatment facility of a dye and pigment based chemical industry. Cr-B2 exhibited a resistance for 1,100 mg/l Cr(VI) and, similarly, resistance against other heavy metal ions such as $Ni^{2+}$ (800 mg/l), $Cu^{2+}$ (600 mg/l), $Pb^{2+}$ (1,100 mg/l), $Cd^{2+}$ (350 mg/l), $ZN^{2+}$ (700 mg/l), and $Fe^{3+}$ (1,000 mg/l), and against selected antibiotics. Cr-B2 was observed to efficiently reduce 200 mg/l Cr(VI) completely in both nutrient and LB media, and could convert Cr(VI) to Cr(III) aerobically. Cr(VI) reduction kinetics followed allosteric enzyme kinetics. The $K_m$ values were found to be 43.11 mg/l for nutrient media and 38.05 mg/l for LB media. $V_{max}$ values of 13.17 mg/l/h and 12.53 mg/l/h were obtained for nutrient media and LB media, respectively, and the cooperativity coefficients (n) were found to be 8.47 and 3.49, respectively, indicating positive cooperativity in both cases. SEM analysis showed the formation of wrinkles and depressions in the cells when exposed to 800 mg/l Cr(VI) concentration. The organism was seen to exhibit pleomorphic behavior. Cr-B2 was identified on the basis of morphological, biochemical, and partial 16S rRNA gene sequencing chracterizations and found to be Acinetobacter sp.

산화성 크롬의 배양세포에서의 독성작용 (Toxic Activities of the Oxidant Chromate in Culture Cells)

  • The ROS-producing potency of chromium compounds of several oxidation states were determined in the H4 cells. $K_2Cr_2O_7$ as Cr (VI), synthetic Cr (V) compounds and Cr (III) as TPP produced high level of ROS. However, ROS values of Cr-picolinate as Cr (III), CrCl$_2$, CrCI$_2$, were almost equal to the control. The effects of physiological antioxidants compounds which react with free radicals were examined for their effects on chromate-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in A549 cells after the addition of $K_2Cr_2O_7$. The compounds used were vitamin C (ascorbate), vitamin E ($\alpha$-tocopherol), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. The preincubation of ascorbate (200uM) with A549 cells for 20hr resulted in a significant reduction of hexavalent chromate(100uM) induced ROS. However, there is no effects of preincubation of the cells with vitamin E succinate (10 and 20uM, 20hr) on the ROS production. Also, the effects of Cr (VI) on the cell cycle of A549 cells was measured by adding the DNA intercalating agent, propidium iodide. S phase of the cell cycle was increased by the chromium (VI) compounds up to 20uM indicating toxicity or possible mitogenic action of the cell. The shoulder in Go/G1 phase at 20uM Cr (VI) with 24 hr treatment indicates apoptosis.
