Currently, due to serious increase of pollution scones, lots of technology has been involved to reduce exhaust gas in diesel engine. But the amounts of exhaust gas can not be decreased somehow due to the increase of diesel vehicles. Moreover, emission standards of each counties are being stringent in advanced countries such as USA and Europe. In the near future, sulfur contents in fuel must be essentially reduced f3r health and environment because sulfur can basically reduce exhaust gas. Therefore, when will be applied to Bio-diesel and ULSD, they could reduce sulfur contents of fuel without aftertreatment and might conform the influence of engine performance, emission, smoke and fuel consumption.
In order to determine reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) when the submerged membrane bioreactor with granular sulfur (MBR-GS) is used in wastewater treatment plant (WTP), the amount of GHGs was compared and analyzed in the advanced treatment process of P wastewater treatment plant (WTP). The amount of GHGs was estimated by classifying as construction and operation phase in WTP. The amount of GHGs in construction phase was evaluated from multiplying raw materials by using carbon emission factors. Also the amount of GHGs in operating phase was calculated by using total electricity consumption and carbon emission factor. The construction of anoxic tank and secondary settling tank is unnecessary, because the MBR-GS conducts simultaneously the nitrification and denitrification in aeration tank and filtration by hollow fiber membrane. The amount of $CO_2$, $CH_4$, and $N_2O$ emitted by constructing the MBR-GS was 6.44E+06 kg, 8.16E+03 kg and 1.38E+01 kg, respectively. The result shows that the GHGs was reduced about 47 % as compared with the construction in the MLE process. In operating the MBR-GS, the electricity is not required in the biological reactor and secondary setting tank. Thus, the amount of $CO_2$, $CH_4$, and $N_2O$ emitted by operating in the MBR-GS was 7.39E+05 kg/yr, 5.80E+02 kg/yr and 2.44E+00 kg/yr, respectively. The result shows that the GHGs were reduced about 37 % as compared with the operation in the MLE process. Also, $LCCO_2$(Life Cycle $CO_2$) was compared and analyzed between MLE process and MBR-GS. The amount of $LCCO_2 $emitted from the MLE process and MBR-GS was 3.56E+04 ton $CO_2$ and 2.12E+04 ton $CO_2$, respectively. The result shows that the GHGs in MBR-GS were reduced to about 40 % as compared in the MLE process during life cycle. As a result, sulfur-utilizing autotrophic denitrification process (SADP) is expected to be utilized as the cost-effective advanced treatment process, owing to not only high nitrogen removal efficiency but also the GHGs reduction in construction and operation stage.

In this study, the removal efficiency of trimethylamine (TMA) and four reduced sulfur compounds (RSC) of $H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, and DMDS was investigated using deionized water as absorbent. To this end, two types of experiments were conducted which include: (1) by passing both RSC and TMA standard gases through water contained in an impinger system and (2) by passing TMA gases through a water spray system. In the former method, TMA standard gases were effectively removed (below detection limit) in all experiments. Likewise, minor fractions of some RSC ($CH_3SH$, DMS, and DMDS) were removed by water in line with theoretical expectations. In addition, the first type of our experiment was extended further to test some commercially available odor treatment products. The results of this test showed that removal efficiencies of RSC $(8.2\pm13.7\sim43.7\pm2.48%)$ were different significantly among 4 kinds of absorbent, while the removal of TMA was consistently good as water. In the second phase of experiment, removal efficiency of TMA was tested by passing its standard gas through a water spray system. The overall results of our study showed that the actual removal efficiency of odorants by water (as sorptive media) approached the values that can be predicted theoretically (by Henry's law).

In this study, a series of experiments were carried out to measure temporal stability of reduced sulfur compounds (RSCs) in Tedlar bag samples as a function of elapsed storage time. To this end, temporal variability of 4 RSC standard gases ($H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, DMDS) was measured up to 29 days. For the purpose of comparison, RSC samples were stored in both individual and mixed state. In the case of mixed standard, samples were also examined to allow comparison between light and dark condition. Then results of $CH_3SH$ data were the most stable with the least change in its concentrations through the end of exps (29 days). When compared with previous studies, the extent of stability appeared to be influenced by the initial concentration levels of samples. When the patterns were compared between individual and mixture samples, differences were not significant in the case of $H_2S$ and DMS. The effects of light conditions on temporal stability were seen to be fairly sensitive on most RSC other than $H_2S$. The results of our study confirm that the stability of RSC storage is affected by their involvement in photochemical reactions.
In this work, sample loss of reduced sulfur compounds (RSC) was investigated with respect to bag sampling techniques. For comparison purpose, calibration slopes were obtained by analyzing standards prepared by 'within syringe dilution' (WSD) method against those made either by 'Tedlar bag dilution' (TBD) or by 'polyester aluminum bag dilution' (PBD) method. The results indicated that the recovery rate of TBD showed the mean values of about 87%, while those of PBD about 77%. Despite the fact that sample loss is inevitable, precise sampling of reduced sulfur compounds may still be possible, if one acknowledges and be prepared for such loss rates of bag sampling methods.
Garlic (Allium sativum L.) contains a specific sulfur compound, the S-allyl derivative of L-cysteine sulfoxide, and has long been known for its antimicrobial activity against various microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. The principal antimicrobial compound of garlic is S-allyl-L-propenethiosulfinate (allicin) which is generated by an enzyme, alliinase (L-cysteine sulfoxide lyase), from S-allyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide (alliin). This compound exists exclusively in Allium as a major non-protein sulfur-containing amino acid. S-Allyl-L-propenethiosulfinate belongs to the chemical group of thiosulfinates and is a highly potent antimicrobial. The potency of garlic extract is reduced during storage since thiosulfinates are unstable and are degraded to other compounds some of which do not have antimicrobial activity. Diallyl polysulfides and ajoene are sulfur compounds derived from allicin that do possess antimicrobial activity. It was recently found that garlic becomes antimicrobial on heating at cooking temperatures, and that the compound responsible for this is allyl alcohol, which is generated from alliin by thermal degradation.
To learn more about the calibration properties of reduced sulfur compounds (RSCs) by the combination of gas chromatography(GC)-pulsed flame photometric detector (PFPD) and thermal desorption method, a series of calibration experiments were conducted on the basis of both internal and external calibration approaches. For these experiments, gaseous standards of 4 RSCs ($H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, and DMDS) were prepared at two different concentration levels of both low (10, 20, 50,and 100 ppb) and high ranges (100, 200, 500, and 1000 ppb) along with $CS_2$ as an internal standard. First, the external calibration results were compared between fixed standard volume (FSV) and fixed standard concentration (FSC) method. Secondly, FSV-based calibration results were compared between external and internal calibration results. As FSV method suffers from sensitivity variations less significantly than FSC, the former is recommended to maintain the consistency in GC-TD sensitivity for RSC analysis. In addition, when the calibration data were examined in terms of RSE between external and internal calibration data, the results were not consistent enough to show improvements in internal method. Hence, diverse efforts are desirable to optimize the reproducibility in terms of GC-TD sensitivity for RSC analysis.
In this study, the effects of additives such as ionic surfactant and cosurfactant were studied on the solubilization of sulfur compounds contained in the crude oil by Tergitol series nonionic surfactants. It was found that the addition of an ionic surfactant such as sodium oleate, potassium oleate, CTAB and DTAB did not enhance solubilization capacity of Tergitol series nonionic surfactant. On the other hand, the addition of a long-chain alcohol as a cosurfactant increased the solubilization of sulfur compounds in the crude oil. The effect of alcohol was found to become reduced with an increase in the amount of crude oil used mainly due to partitioning phenomena of an nonionic surfactant. The enhancement of solubilizing capacity of Tergitol series nonionic surfactant with addition of a cosurfactant was associated with a decrease in interfacial tension between crude oil and surfactant solution. The pH of Tergitol nonionic surfactant solution did not affect the solubilization of sulfur compounds. Finally, it was found that the growth of sulfur reducing microoganisms was not greatly affected by both addition of nonionic surfactant and cosurfactant.
Dissociation into Lithium-polysulfide electrolyte due to repeated cycles during the Lithium/Sulfur battery reaction is a major problem of reduced battery lifespan. We searched for a porous carbon with a large specific surface area that infiltrated S to prevent liquid Lithium-polysulfide from being dissolved in electrolyte, induce adsorption of Lithium-polysulfide, and further increase conductivity. In order to obtain porous carbon spheres with a large specific surface area, the carbon spheres of 1939 m2/g were raised to 2200 m2/g through additional KOH treatment. In addition, through heat treatment with S, a carbon sulfur compound containing 75 wt% of S was fabricate and material analysis was conducted on the possibility of using the cathode material. The electrochemical characteristics of the Reference (622; sulfur: 60%, conductive material: 20%, binder: 20%) pouch cell and the pouch cell made using 75wt% of carbon sulfur compound were analyzed. 75wt% of carbon sulfur pouch cell showed a 20% increase in lifespan and 10% improvement in C-rate compared to the Reference pouch cell after 50 cycles.

In general, odorants are added to fuel gases, such as LPG, LNG and city gas, to prevent gas poisoning, ignition, explosion, or other accident caused by fuel gases, and to enable immediate and easy detection of fuel-gas leakage by emitting an offensive smell. This study describes a study on the performance and exhaust emissions (CO, THC, $CO_2$, $NO_x$, $SO_2$) characteristics of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) engine using LPG fuel with new sulfur free odorant (K-Petro S-Free). New sulfur free odorant (40 mg/kg) was added to 2 type LPG fuels for summer, and winter and it was used in performance and exhaust emissions, compare to LPG fuel with sulfur containing odorant (EM, ethyl mercaptan). Engine performance using LPG with sulfur free odorant was similar to LPG with sulfur-containing odorant. Exhaust emissions (CO, THC, $CO_2$, $NO_x$) of LPG with sulfur free odorant were also similar characteristics, compare with sulfur containing odorant. Especially, $SO_2$ emission using LPG with K-Petro S-Free odorant was more reduced 83 % than LPG with sulfur containing odorant(EM) at 2000 rpm.
