  • Waveguide bandpass filters using E-plane or H-plane discontinuities have been used in many satellite communication systems. Since the transmitter and receiver of such systems tend to be getting smaller, components such as bandpass filters must also be reduced in size. In this paper, in order to reduce the waveguide, itself, of which bandpass filters consist, double plane step waveguide discontinuities are considered. They are analyzed using the mode matching method and the genralized scattering parameter of the cascaded structure is calculated. The characteristics of the bandpass filter which is designed using the reduced size waveguide is optimized by OSA90$^{TM}$. The bandpass filter has a good characteristics and smaller size than those made of the E-plane or H-plane step discontinuities.s.

  • Eph receptors and their ligands, ephrins, mediate cell-to-cell contacts in a specific brain region and their bidirectional signaling is implicated in the regulation of apoptosis during early brain development. In this report, we used the alpha(${\alpha}$)-Cre transgenic line to induce ephrin-A5 over-expression in the distal region of the neural retina. Using this double transgenic embryo, we show that the over-expression of ephrin-A5 was responsible for inducing massive apoptosis in both the nasal and temporal retinas. In addition, the number of differentiated retinal neurons with the exception of the bipolar neuron was significantly reduced, whereas the laminar organization of the mature retina remained intact. Consistent with this finding, an analysis of the mature retina revealed that the size of the whole retina-particularly the nasal and temporal regions-is markedly reduced. These results strongly suggest that the level of ephrin-A5 expression plays a role in the regulation of the size of the retinal progenitor pool in the neural retina.

  • The BTV core associated transcriptase activity, assayed by acid precipitable counts, was reduced to an undetectable level after treat the core with .$100{\mu}{\M}$ CDDP. When the RNA transcripts prepared from the CDDP treated BTV core were analysed on agaroseurea gel, it was observed that the band intensity of the large size RNA was reduced while the band intensity of the small size RNA was enhanced. Northern blot analysis showed that much of the small size RNAs appeared to be prematurely terminated transcripts. These results suggest that CDDP adduction to the template RNA blocks chain elongation process of the virion bound transcriptase that is ultimately responsible for the inactivation of BTV infectivity.

  • In this study, we developed a reduced 94 GHz hybrid ring coupler on a GaAs substrate in order to demonstrate the possibility of the integration of various passive components and MMICs in the millimeter-wave range. To reduce the size of the hybrid ring coupler, we used multiple open stubs on the inside of the ring structure. The chip size of the reduced hybrid ring coupler with multiple open stubs was decreased by 62% compared with the area of the hybrid ring coupler without open stubs. Performance in terms of the loss, isolation, and phase difference characteristics exhibited no significant change after the use of the multiple open stubs on the inside of the ring structure. The reduced hybrid ring coupler showed excellent coupling loss of $3.87{\pm}0.33dB$ and transmission loss of $3.77{\pm}0.72dB$ in the measured frequency range of 90-100 GHz. The isolation and reflection were -48 dB and -32 dB at 94 GHz, respectively. The phase differences between two output ports were $180^{\circ}{\pm}1^{\circ}$ at 94 GHz.

  • There are several electricity applied sterilizers such as sterilizer with high frequency sterilizer with ozone sterilizer with high voltage and so on Those sterilizers feature "because there is no chemical process there is no secondly environmental pollution" At the power conversion part ZVS and ZCS methods have been used that it results in reduced switching loss miniaturized size and lightened weight, Besides the current in the device is smaller than that of existing method. Thus it is expected that the cost of sterilization process when quality of the device is measured by power consumption will be reduced.e reduced.

  • In this paper, a design of size-reduced microwave oscillator using common defected ground structure (common DGS) is described. At first, an oscillator is designed using the normal stub resonator, and the conventional DGS patterns are inserted for the first trial of size-reduction. Finally, the DGS resonator section is folded by half size in order to adopt the common DGS, and this produces the proposed size-reduced oscillator. Common DGS pattern is inserted for a better size-reduction than when conventional DGSs are used. The folded transmission line is connected using the 3-dimensional signal via-holes. For an example of design, a 2.1GHz oscillator is designed and fabricated using a small signal transistor and common DGS, which shows the size-reduction of 11 mm. The measurement shows 6.7dBm of output power and -133dBc/Hz@1MHz of phase noise. The measured performances are so similar to those of the oscillators before size-reduction and prove the proposed size-reduction method of oscillators using common DGS.

  • Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of feed processing and particle size on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics, and gastric health in growing-finishing pigs. Methods: A total of 360 growing pigs (22.64±0.014 kg initial body weight [BW]) were allocated to 1 of 6 treatments with 6 replicates by BW and sex, and 10 pigs were housed in one pen in a randomized complete block design. The BW and feed intake were recorded to calculate growth performance. For the digestibility trial, a total of 24 barrows with an initial BW of 33.65±0.372 kg were split into 6 treatments with a completely randomized design. Dietary treatments were designed by a 2×3 factorial arrangement of treatments based on two main factors, particle size (600, 750, 900 ㎛) and feed form (mash and pellet) of diet. Experimental diets were formulated to contain the requirements of the NRC (2012). Results: The BW and average daily gain were not changed by dietary treatments, and the feed intake of finishing pigs (wks 6 to 12) was increased when the pigs were fed a mash diet (p<0.05). For the overall period, the feed efficiency of pigs was improved with the pellet diet (p<0.01) and reduced particle size (p<0.05). The pellet diet had effects on increasing crude fat digestibility (p<0.01) relative to a mash diet, but there was no considerable change in dry matter and crude protein digestibilities by dietary treatments. In the evaluation of gastric health, a trend for an increased incidence of keratinization in the esophageal region was observed as particle size decreased (p = 0.07). Conclusion: Feed efficiency could be improved by pellet diet and reduced particle size. Nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics, and gastric health were not affected by feed form, and particle size ranged from 600 to 900 ㎛.

  • Folded lines are applied to design a compact microstrip ring hybrid. Using the proposed structure we achieve both significant size reduction and good harmonic suppression with the same results of conventional ring hybrid at 2.41 GHz. Including the third harmonic frequency, up to 11 GHz band harmonics are suppressed to -20 dB. The size of the proposed ring-hybrid is reduced to one forth of the conventional ring hybrid. The measured frequency responses agree well with simulated ones.
