Reduced pressure chemical vapor deposition technology has been used to study SiGe heterostructure epitaxy and device issues, including SiGe relaxed buffers, proper control of Ge component and crystalline defects, two dimensional delta doping, and their influence on electrical properties of devices. From experiments, 2D profiles of B and P presented FWHM of 5 nm and 20 nm, respectively, and doses in 5×10/sup 11/ ∼ 3×10/sup 14/ ㎝/sup -2/ range. The results could be employed to fabricate SiGe/Si heterostructure field effect transistors with both Schottky contact and MOS structure for gate electrodes. I-V characteristics of 2D P-doped HFETs revealed normal behavior except the detrimental effect of crystalline defects created at SiGe/Si interfaces due to stress relaxation. On the contrary, sharp B-doping technology resulted in significant improvement in DC performance by 20-30 % in transconductance and short channel effect of SiGe HMOS. High peak concentration and mobility in 2D-doped SiGe heterostructures accompanied by remarkable improvements of electrical property illustrate feasible use for nano-sale FETs and integrated circuits for radio frequency wireless communication in particular.
Molten metal flow in vacuum die casting was characterized by a numerical analysis. The VOF method was used to simulate the filling behaviors of molten metal during filling process. The various vacuum degrees of no vacuum(760 mmHg), 650, 500, 250 and 60mmHg were artificially applied in cavity. And the filling behaviors of molten metal with the applied vacuum conditions were simulated and compared with those of experiment. The results showed that molten metal was partially filled into cavity when vacuum was applied and the filling length of molten metal in cavity was increased with increasing applied reduced pressure in cavity. Also, the simulated filling behaviors of molten metal were apparently similar to those of experiment, indicating the numerical analysis developed in this study was highly effective. Through the result of fluid flow simulation, both relation equations of filling length and filling velocity with the variation of pressure conditions in cavity were calculated respectively and the internal gas contents of casting was significantly reduced by the modification of vacuum gate system.
Excessive salt intake induces hypertension, but several gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) supplements have been shown to reduce blood pressure. GABA-salt, a fermented salt by L. brevis BJ20 containing GABA was prepared through the post-fermentation with refined salt and the fermented GABA extract. We evaluated the effect of GABA-salt on hypertension in a high salt, high cholesterol diet induced mouse model. We analyzed type 1 macrophage (M1) polarization, the expression of M1 related cytokines, GABA receptor expression, endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction, vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation, and medial thicknesses in mice model. GABA-salt attenuated diet-induced blood pressure increases, M1 polarization, and TNF-α and inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS) levels in mouse aortas, and in salt treated macrophages in vitro. Furthermore, GABA-salt induced higher GABAB receptor and endothelial NOS (eNOS) and eNOS phosphorylation levels than those observed in salt treated ECs. In addition, GABA-salt attenuated EC dysfunction by decreasing the levels of adhesion molecules (E-selectin, Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1 [ICAM-1], vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 [VCAM-1]) and of von Willebrand Factor and reduced EC death. GABA-salt also reduced diet-induced reductions in the levels of eNOS, phosphorylated eNOS, VSMC proliferation and medial thickening in mouse aortic tissues, and attenuated Endothelin-1 levels in salt treated VSMCs. In summary, GABA-salt reduced high salt, high cholesterol diet induced hypertension in our mouse model by reducing M1 polarization, EC dysfunction, and VSMC proliferation.

In this study, the physicochemical changes related to fishy smell were determined by storing high hydrostatic pressure (HHP)-treated mackerel (Scomber japonicus) meat in a refrigerator for 20 days. The inhibition of crude urease activity from Vibrio parahaemolyticus using HHP treatment was also investigated. The mackerel meat storage experiment demonstrated that production of trimethylamine (TMA) and volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), the main components of fishy smell, was significantly reduced on the 20th day of storage after the HHP treatment compared to the untreated mackerels. The results demonstrated that the increased ammonia nitrogen rates in the 2000, 3000, and 4000 bar, HHP-treated groups decreased by 23.8%, 23.8%, and 31.0%, respectively, compared to the untreated groups. The enzyme activity of crude urease was significantly reduced in the HHP-treated group compared to that in the untreated group. Measurement of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in mackerel meat during storage indicated that the content of ethanol, 2-butanone, 3-methylbutanal, and trans-2-pentenal, which are known to cause off-flavor due to spoilage, were significantly reduced by HHP treatment. Collectively, our results suggested that HHP treatment would be useful for inhibiting the activity of urease, thereby reducing the fishy smells from fish and shellfish.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of cuff pressure on postoperative sore throat. Methods: Data were collected from January 4 through May 15, 2008. Among the 60 patients, 30 patients were randomly assigned to the control group and the rest to the experimental group. Initial cuff pressure of both groups was set at 20 $cmH_2O$. The experimental group was maintained at 20 $cmH_2O$ throughout the anesthesia, while the control group was not regulated further. Sore throat was assessed at postoperative 1, 24 and 72 hours. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney test and Spearman's rho coefficients. Results: Cuff pressure in control group increased from 20 to 43 $cmH_2O$ within 3 hours after induction. However, the experimental group showed that there was apparently a reduced rate of sore throat at postoperative 24 hours (p = .048), and 72 hours (p = .002) than in the control group. However, no outstanding differences between both groups at postoperative 1 hour (p = .081) were detected. The correlation between cuff pressure and sore throat was statistically significant ($r_s$ = .590, p < .001). Conclusion: We conclude that maintaining cuff pressure at 20 $cmH_2O$ could be an effective means to reduce sore throat in surgical patients with inhalation anesthesia.
Purpose: This study examined the effect of trunk stabilization exercise upon the lumbar stabilization and foot pressure on an unstable surface with back pain. Methods: The subjects of the study were 10 patients who showed the symptom of back pain with excessive lumbar curve. This study was 4 weeks, 30 minutes per session, three times a week for a total of 12 times as a result of exercise radiation imaging device and foot pressure analyzer. Results: The sacrohorizontal angle was statistically significant(p<0.05). Comparison of the difference between static right and left foot pressure ratio analysis was statistically significant(p<0.05). Dynamic right and left foot pressure comparisons for the difference was statistically significant in the analysis (p<0.05). Conclusion: Trunk stabilization exercise and the reduction of the excessive sacrohorizontal angle, and static and dynamic foot pressure imbalance reduced left and right.
This paper presents an experimental study on the unsteady flow phenomena such as leakage flow and rotating stall which have influences on the performance and stability of an axial flow fan. For this study, unsteady pressure were measured using high frequency pressure transducers mounted on the easing wall of rotor passage and analyzed by Double Phase-Locked Averaging Technique. As the flow rate was reduced to near stall point, the pressure difference between the pressure and the suction side of the blade was increased especially new the leading edge and the lowest pressure zone of suction side was gradually developed. From the result of unsteady pressure field on the casing wall, one period of rotating stall was divided into three zones and the flow characteristics on each zone were described in detail.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of changes in foot cutaneous sensation on plantar pressure distribution during gait. Methods: Sixteen healthy young subjects participated in this experiment. All subjects performed two trials of walking under three somatosensory conditions induced by a normal facilitatory insole that provides increased plantar sensory stimulation, and application of lidocaine cream to the plantar surface of the foot to reduce the sensitivity of the soles. Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments were used for evaluation of reduced plantar sensation. The Pedar system was used for measurement of pressure distribution at the plantar surface of the foot. Results: Pressure in the lateral midfoot area showed an increase with increasing and decreasing sensory inputs. When sensory input was increased, plantar pressure showed a decrease in the forefoot area. When sensory input was decreased, plantar pressure showed an increase in the lateral forefoot area and a decrease in the hallux area. Conclusion: By altering sensory feedback, plantar pressure distribution is changed during gait. Plantar cutaneous afferents play an important role in plantar distribution.
An experimental study using the combustor with branch tube was conducted in order to model the industry combustor with FGR (flue gas recirculation) system and to study a thermo-acoustic instability generated by a branch tube. The branch tube is a structure used to modify a system geometry and then to change its pressure field, and the thermo-acoustic instability, usually occurs in a confined geometry, can result in serious problems on industrial combustors. Thus understanding of the instability created by modifying geometry of combustor is necessary to design and operate combustor with FGR system. Pressure fluctuation in the combustion chamber was observed according to diameter and length of branch and it was compared with the solution of 1-D wave equation. It was found that branch tube affects the pressure field in the combustion chamber, and the pressure fluctuation in the combustion chamber was reduced to almost zero when phase difference between an incipient wave in the combustion chamber and a reflected wave in the branch tube is $\pi$ at the branch point. Also, the reduction of pressure fluctuation is irrespective of the installed height of branch tube if it is below $h^*=0.9$ in the close-open tube and open-open tube.
