During the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the correct chest compression depth and period are very important to increase the resuscitation possibility. For the feedback of chest compression depth, the depth monitoring device based on the accelerometer is developed and widely used. But this method tends to overestimate the compression depth on the bed. To overcome this limitation, the chest compression depth estimation method using two accelerometers is suggested With the additional accelerometer between the patient and mattress on the bed, the compression of the mattress is also measured and it is used to compensate the overestimation error. The experimental results show that the single accelerometer estimates as 61.4mm for the actual compression depth of 43.6mm on the mattress. The depth estimation with the dual accelerometer was 44.6mm which is close to the actual depth. With the automatic zeroing in every single compression, the integration error for the depth can be reduced. The dual accelerometer method is effective to increase the accuracy of the chest compression depth estimation.

Gait Recognition is a new technique to identify the people by the way they walk. Human gait is a spatio-temporal phenomenon that typifies the motion characteristics of an individual. The proposed method makes a simple but efficient attempt to gait recognition. For each video file, spatial silhouettes of a walker are extracted by an improved background subtraction procedure using Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). Here GMM is used as a parametric probability density function represented as a weighted sum of Gaussian component densities. Then, the relevant features are extracted from the silhouette tracked from the given video file using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method. The Fisher Linear Discriminant Analysis (FLDA) classifier is used in the classification of dimensional reduced image derived by the PCA method for gait recognition. Although gait images can be easily acquired, the gait recognition is affected by clothes, shoes, carrying status and specific physical condition of an individual. To overcome this problem, it is combined with footprint as a multimodal biometric system. The minutiae is extracted from the footprint and then fused with silhouette image using the Discrete Stationary Wavelet Transform (DSWT). The experimental result shows that the efficiency of proposed fusion algorithm works well and attains better result while comparing with other fusion schemes.

A nonlinear dissipative dynamical system can often have multiple attractors. In this case, it is important to study the global behavior of the system by determining the global domain of attraction of each attractor. In this paper we study the global behavior of a forced beam with two mode interaction. The governing equation of motion is reduced to two second-order nonlinear nonautonomous ordinary differential equations. When .omega. /=3.omega.$_{1}$ and .ohm.=.omega $_{1}$, the system can have two asymptotically stable steady-state periodic solutions, where .omega./ sub 1/, .omega.$_{2}$ and .ohm. denote natural frequencies of the first and second modes and the excitation frequency, respectively. Both solutions have the same period as the excitation period. Therefore each of them shows up as a period-1 solution in Poincare map. We show how interpolated mapping method can be used to determine the two four-dimensional domains of attraction of the two solutions in a very effective way. The results are compared with the ones obtained by direct numerical integration.

In this study, we present the optimization of a head slider using kriging method in order to reduce lift-off force during unloading process with satisfying reliable flying attitude in steady state. To perform an optimization process efficiently, a simplified lift-off force model, which is a function of air bearing suction force and flying attitudes, is created by kriging method. The EMDIOS, which is the process integration and design optimization software developed by iDOT, is used to automatically wrap the analysis with the optimization and efficiently implements the repetitive works between analyzer and optimizer. An optimization problem is formulated to reduce the lift-off force during unloading process while satisfying the flying attitude in reliable range over the entire recording band and reducing the probability of contact between slider and disk. The simulation result shows that the amplitude of lift-off force of optimized L/UL slider is reduced about 62%, compared with that of initial slider model. It is demonstrated by the dynamics L/UL simulation that the optimum slider incorporated with the suspension is not only smoothly loaded onto disk but also properly unloaded onto the ramp.
A magnetic field calculation method for toroidal type winding which has circular section was developed. At first, the equation for magnetic field by single filament coil was extended using numerical integration to estimate the entire interesting region of solenoid, especially winding region itself. And then, the magnetic field by toroidal arrangement of solenoids was computed with a coordinate transformation of vector fields. The superconducting magnet with toroidal arrangement can be made up of several tens of solenoid type double pancake windings for some applications such as superconducting magnetic energy storage system(SMES). In this system, the field calculation on the high-Tc superconducting(HTS) tape itself is very important because the entire system can be reached to a fault by magnetic stress of conductor or the critical current of superconducting tape can be dramatically reduced under its self field condition. To make matters worse, 3-dimensional analysis is indispensable for this type of magnet and the most of commercial programs with finite element method can be taken too much time for analysis and design. In this paper, a magnetic field calculation method for toroidal type winding with circular section was induced.

An accurate thick beam element (TB4) which includes the effects of the shear deformation and rotatory inertia has been degenerated from the three dimensional continuum by employing the Timoshenko beam assumptions. The proposed TB4 element has four nodes and two degrees of freedom at each node, totally eight degrees of freedom. The transverse deflection W and plane rotation ${\theta}$ with the cubic interpolation functions are selected as nodal variables. The element characteristics are formulated by discretizing the beam equations of motion, using the Galerkin weighted residual method, and are numerically integrated by the reduced shear integration technique, using the three-point Gauss quadrature with the various shear coefficients. Several numerical examples are analyzed to demonstrate the accuracy and the monotonic convergence behavior of the proposed TB4 beam element. The result indicates that the TB4 element shows the more excellent performance and the monotonic convergence behavior than the other existing Timoshenko beam type elements for the whole range of the beam aspect ratios, in both static and free vibration analyses.
In this paper, liquid sloshing effects in rectangular storage structures for spent fuel under earthquake loadings are investigated. Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches are presented. The Eulerian approach is carried out by solving the boundary value problem for the fluid motion. In the Lagrangian approach, the fluid as well as the storage structure is modelled by the finite element method. The fluid region is discretized by using fluid elements. The (1*1)-reduced integration is carried out for constructing the stiffness matrices of the fluid elements. Seismic analysis of the coupled system is carried out by the response spectra method. The numerical results show that the fluid forces on the wall obtained by two approaches are in good agreements. By including the effect of the wall flexibility, the hydrodynamic forces due to fluid motion can be increased very significantly.

In this study, there should be a debation on the methods, such as considerations on the CM organization of skyscraper project for the client's side, process and impact factors need to be taken, and suggesting the evaluation and selection criteria, which may lead strategic decision-making by the client. Owner of the CM organizational decision to establish a variety of alternatives, the range of CM performance characteristics of the project, considering the weight and also by evaluating the effectiveness of appropriate alternative is selected. Domestic skyscraper project, decisions about the CM organization for 'S Tower' prior to the proposed decision and the criteria was applied. As a result, domestic CM/PM companies and overseas CM/PM companies were doing business as J/V, Supervision of the integration work order types showed the highest performance levels. when they ordered CM services. The project cost reduced and organizational improvements, the results of applying alternative way, improve on-site construction plans, sharing key technologies, process improvement plan could benefit from such expectations.

Turbomachinery such as turbines, pumps and compressors, which are installed in transportation systems such as warships, submarines and space vehicles, etc., often perform crucial missions and are exposed to potential dangerous impact environments such as base-transferred shock forces. To protect turbomachinery from excessive shock forces, it may be needed to accurately analyze transient responses of rotors, considering the dynamics of mount designs to be applied with. In this study a generalized FE transient response analysis model, introducing relative displacements, is firstly proposed to accurately predict transient responses of a flexible rotor-bearing system with mount systems to base-transferred shock forces. In the transient analyses the state-space Newmark method of a direct time integration scheme is utilized, which is based on the average velocity concept. Results show that for the identical mount systems considered, the proposed FE-based detailed flexible rotor model yields more reduced transient vibration responses to the same shocks than a conventional simple model or a Jeffcott rotor. Hence, in order to design a rotor-bearing system with a more compact light-weighted mount system, preparing against any potential excessive shock, the proposed FE transient response analysis model herein is recommended.

This paper is concerned with a simulation-based process design for the tension levelling of metallic strips based on the elasto-plastic finite element analysis with reduced integration and hourglass control. The tension levelling process is performed to elongate the strip plastically in combination of tensile and bending strain by a controlled manner so that all longitudinal fibers in the strip have an approximately equal amount of length and undesirable strip shapes are corrected to the flat shape. The analysis deals with a method for calculating the quantitative level of the curl to investigate the roll arrangements and intermesh suitable to elimination of the curl. The analysis provides the information about the intermesh effect on the amount, the tension effect and distribution of the strain as well as the stress in order to determine the amount of elongation for correction of the irregular shape. The desired elongation is referred to determine the number of work rolls and the value of tension. Especially, the analysis investigates tile effect of the mesh size in the non-steady state finite element analysis on the amount and distribution of the strain.
