An efficient simulation method for reliability analysis of systems with expensive-to-evaluate performance functions

  • This paper proposes a novel reliability analysis method which computes reliability index, most probable point and probability of failure of uncertain systems more efficiently and accurately with compared to Monte Carlo, first-order reliability and response surface methods. It consists of Initial and Simulation steps. In Initial step, a number of space-filling designs are selected throughout the variables space, and then in Simulation step, performances of most of samples are estimated via interpolation using the space-filling designs, and only for a small number of the samples actual performance function is used for evaluation. In better words, doing so, we use a simple interpolation function called "reduced" function instead of the actual expensive-to-evaluate performance function of the system to evaluate most of samples. By using such a reduced function, total number of evaluations of actual performance is significantly reduced; hence, the method can be called Reduced Function Evaluations method. Reliabilities of six examples including series and parallel systems with multiple failure modes with truncated and/or non-truncated random variables are analyzed to demonstrate efficiency, accuracy and robustness of proposed method. In addition, a reliability-based design optimization algorithm is proposed and an example is solved to show its good performance.

  • Autonomous vehicle is a car which drives itself without any human interaction. SAE provides technical definitions for autonomous and international standards for test evaluation. Accordingly, automobile industry is actively researching development and evaluation of various ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), : representative technology of autonomous technology. Recently, ADAS is in the commercialization level such as ACC, LKAS, AEB, and HDA etc. And it also has issues about safety evaluation. The purpose of HDA in ADAS is reduced the driving load on highway. It has a function which can maintain lane keeping and control distance from forward vehicle. This function is evaluated to be useful for accident prevention. Therefore, this paper proposes the safety evaluation scenario of HDA, considering the domestic highway design criteria and the situation that may arise on the actual highway. We compared and analyzed the data acquired through simulation and actual vehicle test. And verified the reliability of the proposed safety evaluation scenario. The verified result is expected safety evaluation of HDA is possible even under the bad condition, which cannot be tested.

  • Imaging studies using MRI, PET, and/or MEG have been primary evaluation methods to quantitatively assess cognitive function. Recent advances in computational technology and information technology may allow a novel evaluation methodology to quantitate cognitive function more cost-effectively. In this study, we developed a software package composed of a series of tests to evaluate cognitive ability combined with a user-friendly touch screen input device. This cognitive assessment tool can quantitate concentration, numeric memory, associative memory, topological memory, visual and muscular reaction, and acoustic reaction over a relatively short testing time. We performed an empirical study on eighty normal subjects aged 20 and 59 years old using the developed evaluation methods. Age-related cognitive deterioration after 40 years old was confirmed. There was no difference in cognitive ability between male and female in the same age group. This study demonstrates the feasibility of a simple but effective evaluation software tool to quantitatively assess cognitive ability. This methodology may provide improved accessibility and reduced costs to perform cognitive function studies to compare between various subject groups.

Evaluation of Cardiac Function by Transthoracic Echocardiography in Patients with Myocardial Injury Secondary to Organophosphate Poisoning (유기인계 중독에 의한 심근손상 환자에서의 경흉부 심장 초음파검사를 사용한 심장기능평가)

  • Purpose: Cardiac complications may occur in cases of organophosphate (OP) poisoning. However, a few studies regarding patterns of cardiac toxicity as determined by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) after exposure to OP have been reported. In the current study, the authors examined cardiac functions using TTE in patients with myocardial injury caused by exposure to OP. Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on 16 consecutive cases of OP poisoning with myocardial injury (defined as elevated troponin I within 48 hours of arrival at the regional emergency center in South Korea and diagnosed and treated at the center from January 2012 to November 2014. Results: TTE was performed in 11 (69%) of the 16 patients with an elevated troponin I (TnI) level within 48 hours. Of these 11 patients, 5 patients (45.5%) exhibited reduced ejection fraction (EF), and 3 exhibited regional wall motion abnormality (RWMA). Two patients (18.2%) had both reduced systolic function and RWMA. Two of the 5 patients with reduced EF returned to normal systolic function, however two patients did not regain normal systolic function after admission. One patient expired due to multiple organ failure, and 4 patients were transferred with a moribund status. Twelve of 15 patients who survived to discharge (at 4 to 35 months) were followed. Five of these patients died during follow-up and 7 survived without further complications. Conclusion: OP can cause reversible cardiac dysfunction including reduced systolic function and RWMA. Serum TnI may be useful for initial assessment of cardiac function during the workup of patients suffering from OP poisoning. After the initial assessment of cardiac enzyme, further evaluation with TTE in patients with abnormal cardiac enzyme will be necessary to understand the cardiac toxicity.

  • Further evaluation and modification were done on the new concepts plow (frontal plow), a plow which inverts the soil furrow without lateral displacement . First, kinematics of soil cutting section was analyzed and an experiment was conducted to report draft and power requirement. Second, function of main moldboards was examined and modification was made. As a result of the modification , force applied to the moldboard was reduced, but the furrow inversion became less stable.

  • In this paper module of a product is determined by the characteristics of a product itself and process. To analyze the characteristics of the product information on subassemblies and parts can be obtained by analyzing the existing product. Based on the analysis of characteristics of product structure and function determination rules of a module degree could be proposed for assembly and disassembly process and product structure and function. By applying these rules of a module, module of a product is classified into full half and non-module depending on the module degree of a product. As a result of module degree analysis simpler assembly process and reduced structural interference can be realized. For the product function simpler updated and multi function can be also achieved.

  • In this paper, the efficient new performance evaluation method for digital communication channels is suggested and verified its efficiency in terms of simulation run-tim for the digital satellite broadcasting satellite TV channel. In order to solve the difficulties of the existing Importance Sampling(IS) Technics, we adopted the discrete probability mass function(PMF) in the new method for estimating the statistical characteristics of received signals from the measured Nth order central moments. From the discrete probability mass function obtained with less number of the received signal than the one required in the IS technic, continuous cumulative probability function and its inverse function are exactly estimated by using interpolation and extrapolation technic. And the overall channel is simplified with encoding block, inner channel performance degra-dation modeing block which is modeled with the Uniform Random Number Generator (URNG) and concatenated Inverse Cummulative Pr bility Distribution function, and decoding block. With the simplified channel model, the overall performance evaluation can be done within a drastically reduced time. The simulation results applied to the nonlinear digital satellite broadcasting TV channel showed the great efficiency of the alogrithm in the sense of computer run time, and demonstrated that the existing problems of IS for the nonlinear satellite channels with coding and M-dimensional memory can be completely solved.

  • This study is about ionic water generator filter Recently, a lot of people feel deep interest in health and drinking water. Evaluation of the stability of oxidation-reduced potential (ORP) using the filter of the alkaline water. This study utilizes the three filter of activated carbon, UF, carbon block in alkaline reduced water equipment. Passing the water to the filter is evaluated that the OPR values are stability in accordance with the change of the volume in the bucket. Alkaline reduced water equipment is a system that has the function of making the water reduction. This system is the values of the human body beneficial minerals and ORP are made in the functional water has a very low value than general water. Which has passed through the filter the water in the water negative ions and positive ions through the electrolytic. After electrolysis, the cathode side by water, including $Ca^+$, $K^+$, $Mg^+$, $Na^+$ water gets Alkaline Reduced Water containing the minerals beneficial to the human body. A positive electrode side is made of the organic materials that have an anion such as chlorine (Cl), phosphorus (P), sulfur(S). This experiment uses the Alkaline Reduced Water to adjust the magnitude of the voltage of the electrolysis in the Alkaline Reduced Water. That is 1st step(pH8) 2nd step (pH8.5) 3th step (pH9), 4th step (pH9.5) in the Alkaline Reduced Water and -1st step (pH6.0), -2nd step (pH5.0) used as the acidic oxidation water. When the water passes through the three filter in this system was evaluated whether the ORP values are changed and stabilized. When about 100 liters of water passing through the filter was confirmed that the ORP values are stability and evaluation.

  • In this paper, the decrease multipoint search method and Its learning algorithm for optimum value computatlon method of object function Is proposed. Using this method, the number of evaluation point according to searching time can t)e reduced multipoint of the direct search method by applying the unlivarlate method. And the learning algorithm can reprat the same search method in a new established boundary by using the searched result. In order to Investigate the efficience of algorithm, this method this method is applied to Rosenbrock and Powell, Colvelle function that are Impossible or uncertain in traditional direct search method. And the result of application, the optimum value searching oil every function Is successful. Especially, the algorithm is certified as a good calculation method for producing global(absolute) optimum value.

  • Nowadays, the axial stiffness of crankshaft of long-stroke diesel engine is low compared to that of the old types of engine by increasing stroke/bore ratio and major critical speed might occur within engine operation speed. An axial damper needs to be installed in order to reduce the axial vibration of the crankshaft in the event of reduced or stopped axial damper function are discussed.
