삼중자망에 의한 동해 심해 수산자원의 망목별 어획특성 (Fishing investigation with trammel nets by mesh size in the Korean deep-water of the East Sea)

  • The investigation for species composition and catch in the Korean deep-water of the East Sea (also known as Sea of Japan) was carried out with trammel nets of 7 mesh sizes (6.1~24.2cm) offshore Donghae (2006) and Yangyang (2007) of Korea. The catches were 1,268kg and composed of 37 species between 200m and 1,200m in depth. The principal species caught were Taknka's snailfish, salmon snailfish, red snow crab, hunchback sculpin, snow crab, spinyhead sculpin, Tanaka's eelpout, Alaska cod and so on. Those were target fish for commercial value except salmon snailfish. The mesh sizes for the largest catch were 10.6cm and 15.2cm in the fishing ground of Donghae and Yangyang, respectively. The habitat of snow crab was shallower than that of red snow crab in both areas. Trammel net enabled to investigate fish in deep-water with small fishing vessel and rather cheap expenses in contrast to bottom trawl that required too much of it. With increasing inner mesh size of trammel net the mean size of some principal species such as Taknka's snailfish, spinyhead sculpin, hunchback sculpin, Pacific cod, snow crab, red snow crab and hybrid between snow crab and red snow crab tended to be large in certain range of mesh size.

  • Red mud is an inorganic by-product produced from the mineral processing of alumina from Bauxite ores. This study is to investigate characteristic with respect to curing conditions according to the red mud content. The results best of best showed that the water curing compressive strength better than atmospheric curing, steam curing.

1978년 진해만 적조와 양식굴의 대량폐사 (MASS MORTALITYS OF OYSTER DUE TO RED TIDE IN JINHAE BAY IN 1978)

  • 1978년 진해만에서 있었던 적조현상과 양식 굴의 대량폐사에 관한 조사결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다. 1. 진해만에서 1978넌 9월중 양식 굴의 대량폐사가 있었다. 폐사량은 $96\%$인 5,687M/T으로 피해액은 22억 7천 5백만원이었다. 2. 상기의 대량폐사는 지속된 고온, 대규모의 적조와 그로 인한 저층수의 빈산소 내지 무산소화로 인한 질식이 주 원인의 일보였다고 추측된다. 3. 적조의 원인종은 와편모조의 일종인 Ceratium fusus로서 각장 $340{\mu}m$, 각폭 $20{\mu}m$ 정도의 대형 식물플랑크톤이었다. 클로로필-a량은 최고 $50mg/m^3$ 이었다.4. 춘기의 가뭄과 6월의 다우로 성층이 형성된데다 지속된 고온과 장일조 그리고 해상의 평온함이 대규모의 적조를 유발시킨 원인의 일부라 생각된다.

Korean Red Ginseng Protects Oxidative Injury Caused by Lead Poisoning

  • Lead (Pb) is a metal that is generally considered to be toxic to the cardiovascular system. Pb-exposed animals display the evidence of increased oxidative stress and hypertension. The current study was designed to examine whether Korean red ginseng (KRG) has protective effects against Pb-induced hypertension and oxidative stress in Pb-exposed rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to Pb exposure or control groups. KRG was administered in drinking water at a concentration of 100 mg/kg/day; the control group received plain drinking water. Animals in the Pb-exposed groups were provided with drinking water containing 100 ppm Pb acetate for 12 weeks. Blood pressure, plasma glutathione, blood Pb concentration, and hematologic data, such as red blood cell quantity, were determined. Pb poisoning was assessed by measuring the blood Pb concentration. Pb exposure (100 ppm) for 12 weeks resulted in a marked rise in systolic blood pressure and blood Pb concentration, as well as a significant reduction in plasma glutathione levels and red blood cell quantity. Other measurements, such as heart rate, body weight, and white blood cell quantity, were unchanged. Treatment with KRG significantly lowered blood pressure, raised plasma glutathione and increased red blood cell numbers in Pb-exposed animals; it also had no effect on heart rate, body weight, or white blood cell quantity. However, the elevated blood Pb concentration was not reduced by treatment with KRG (100 mg/kg). Taken together, these data indicate that treatment with KRG in Pb-exposed animals can reduce oxidative stress and lower blood pressure, suggesting that KRG might be protective against Pb-exposed hypertension and oxidative stress.

GOCI Level 2 Data를 이용한 적조탐지 기법 연구 (Detection technique of Red Tide Using GOCI Level 2 Data)

  • 본 연구에서는 Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI)의 수출광량(Water-leaving radiance) 자료와 흡광계수(Absorption Coefficients) 자료를 이용하여 한국 남해에 발생한 Cochlodinium polykrikoides 적조를 탐지하는 방법을 제안한다. C. polykrikoides의 분광스펙트럼을 분석하여, 412 nm에서 555 nm구간 파장대의 수출광 및 흡광 특성을 확인하였고 이를 이용하여 적조지수를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 탐지기법은 광학적으로 복잡한 남해에서 발생한 적조를 탐지하였으며, 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 향후 적조 방재에 활용될 수 있을 것이라 판단된다.

득량만의 수질과 식물플랑크톤 적조 (Water Qualify and Phytoplankton Red Tide in Deukryang Bay of Korea)

  • 본 연구는 1998년 7월부터 9월까지 득량만 19개 정점 표층에서 수질, 식물플랑크톤 군집의 구조와 동태 및 적조의 특징을 규명하였다. 조사기간 중 월별 평균 수온은 24.0~28.6$^{\circ}C$, 염분은 25.0~28.6$\textperthousand$로 월별 및 정점간 변이가 컸다. 본 해역의 Chlorophyll-$\alpha$의 농도는 7월과 8월에 평균 11.59mg/m$^3$, 7.52mg/m$^3$를 나타내어 일차생산이 높았으며, 9월의 수질은 부영양화 단계에 있었다. 조사기간 중 출현한 식물플랑크톤군집은 돌말류가 89종류, 와편모조류가 19종류, 규질편모조류가 3종류 등 총 111분류군이었다. 식물플랑크톤 현존량은 최저 1.3$\times$$10^4$cells/ι(9월, 정점 17)에서 최고 3.8$\times$$10^{6}$cells/ι(7월, 정점 10)까지 변화하였다. 7월에는 거의 전 해역에서 황갈색의 적조가 발생되었고, 평균 현존량 1.8$\times$$10^{6}$cells/ι을 보였으며 이때 적조원인종은 Prorocentrum minimum, Chaetoceros curvisetus, Ceratium furca, Thalassiosira sp. 등이었으며, 만의 상부에서는 p. minimum, 만의 중앙부와 만 입구에서는 ch. curvisetus, 녹동항 주변에서는 c. furca와 Thalassiosira sp.에 의해 적조가 각각 발생되었다. 본 해역에서 질소와 같은 영양염류의 분포는 만의 상부와 녹동항 주변에서 높았고, 적조발생시 수온 23.8~29.7$^{\circ}C$ 그리고 염분 23.1~27.0$\textperthousand$였다.

  • 1. 우리나라 북부 8개 지역을 대상으로 하여 최근 30년간의 기상자료 분석에 의한 12월~6월의 일평균 PET는 $2.31mm\;day^{-1}$ 이었다. 2. 시설재배 고추의 우리나라 북부 8개 지역별, 3개 토성 및 16개 순별, 총 384경우의 재배여건에 적합한 물 절약형 적정 관개간격 및 1회 관개량을 산정하였다.

  • Red tide(harmful algae) in the Korean Coastal Waters has a given a great damage to the fishery every year. However, the aim of our study understands the influence of meteorological factors (air and water tempaerature, precipitation, sunshine, solar radiation, winds) relating to the mechanism of red tide occurrence and monitors red tide by satellite remote sensing, and analyzes the potential area for red tide occurrence by GIS. The meteorological factors have directly influenced on red tide formation. Thus, We want to predict and apply to red tide formation from statistical analyses on the relationships between red tide formation and meteorological factors. In future, it should be realized the near real time monitoring for red tide by the development of remote sensing technique and the construction of integrated model by the red tide information management system (the data base of red tide - meteorological informations).

Detecting red tides in turbid waters

  • As an example of many possible applications of OSMI data, we present a method to detect red tides. In Korean waters, red tides usually occur in the South Sea where the turbidity is usually high due to strong tidal mixing in the shallow sea. The conventional case 1 chlorophyll algorithm cannot be applied since it cannot distinguish chlorophyll from SS (suspended sediments). In October 1998, a red tide outbreak occurred off the coast of Kunsan. We analyzed the SeaWiFS data of the outbreak. The standard SeaWiFS chlorophyll algorithm OC2 was poor in identifying the red tides. However, comparison of spectra of normalized water-leaving radiance indicates that red tide pixels can be distinguished from sediment-laden pixels. Channel 443 and 555 were effective in showing the spectral characteristics. We suggest K490 algorithm as an example in summarizing the information of the spectra and thereby in distinguishing the red tide pixels. Further development is desirable.

  • Red mud is a waste material formed during the production of alumina when the bauxite ore is subjected to caustic leaching. It is a brick-red colored highly alkaline (pH 10-12) sludge containing mostly oxides of iron, aluminum, titanium, and silica. Red mud, due to its high aluminum, iron, and calcium contents, has been suggested as a cheap adsorbent for removal of toxic metals (e.g., As, Cr, Pb, Cd) as well as for water or wastewater treatment. The basic advantage of red mud is its versatility in application. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of red mud on stabilization and fixation of heavy metals (such as Pb, Cu, C $r^{6+}$, Cd, Zn) contained in the Al-coating sludge and soil. The results showed that the concentration of heavy metals leached from the treated sludge and soil was low, meeting the regulatory permit level.
