The Rayleigh-Ritz procedure based on energy method is used to present analytically the natural frequencies and the critical buckling loads for four types of loading conditions: (1) uniaxial, (2) biaxial, (3) positive shear and (4) negative shear, of the rectangular, composite plates unidirectionally stiffened with box beam type stiffeners. In analysis the discrete stiffener theory is adopted to present the effect of stiffeners in the plate structure. The convergence study is presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the results. Contour plots of the vibrated and buckled mode shapes are shown for some examples. The effect of various parameters such as numbers, position, aspect ratio of stiffener and layer angle, aspect ratio of plate are focused.
Interaction of lateral loading, combined with axial force needs to be determined with care in reinforced concrete (RC) one-dimensional structural members (1D SMs) such as beam-columns (BCs) and columns. RC 1D SMs under heavy axial loading are known to fail by brittle mode and small lateral displacements. In this paper, a macro element-based algorithm is proposed to analyze the RC 1D SMs under monotonic or cyclic combined loading. The 1D SMs are discretized into macro-elements (MEs) located between the critical sections and the inflection points. The critical sections are discretized into fixed rectangular finite elements (FRFE). The nonlinear behavior of confined and unconfined concretes and steel elements are considered in the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm has been validated by the results of experimental tests carried out on full-scale RC structural members. The evolution of ultimate strain at extreme compression fiber of a rectangular RC section for different orientations of lateral loading shows that the ultimate strain decreases with increasing the axial force. In the examined cases, this ultimate strain ranges from 0.0024 to 0.0038. Therefore, the 0.003 value given by ACI-318 code for ultimate strain, is not conservative and valid for the combined load cases with significant values of axial force (i.e. for the axial forces heavier than 70% of the ultimate axial force).

As for two dimensional added mass coefficients for straight framed hull forms in a free surface of an ideal fluid, theoretical calculations by F.M. Lewis, vertical, K. Wendel, J.H. Hwang, and etc. are available; vertical modes of rectangular and triangle sections by Lewis, vertical, horizontal and torsional models of rectangular and triangle section by Wendel, and systematical calculations for vertical modes of single chine forms by Hwang. In this paper, employing the conformal transformation by which a unit circle and its exterior region can conformally mapped to a polygon and its exterior region, the author calculated two dimensional added inertia coefficients systematically for straight framed sections with single chine in horizontal and torsional modes of vibrations. As the results, it was found that sloping side angle is an important factor measuring the magnitude of two dimensional added inertia coefficient for a set of given values of the sectional area coefficient and the beam-draft ratio. To grasp it cleary in physical sense, pressure distributions are investigated for some typical section contours. The numerical results are presented graphically in the form of two dimensional added sectional area coefficients with beam-draft ratios and sloping side angles as parameters, so that the data may conveniently utilized for estimation of the added inertia coefficients based on a three parameter technique.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the vibro-acoustic characteristics of a stiffened rectangular plate at high frequencies. The stiffeners attached along the plate surface were assumed to have rotational and translational stiffness and inertia. The harmonic response of the stiffened plate were predicted and compared using the Rayleigh-Ritz method with two different trial functions - polynomial and beam functions. The variation of the spatially averaged mean square velocity and the modal characteristics with the number of stiffeners were obtained. The use of the beam function ensured fast convergence which was essential for analyzing the high frequency vibration responses. Using the calculated modal characteristics and the Rayleigh-integral, the radiated sound power was predicted, and the effects of stiffeners were investigated. The proposed model can be applied to study optimal layout of stiffeners for minimal noise generation of the stiffened structures.
An inverse approach is presented for calculating the flexibility coefficient of open-side cracks in the cross sectional of beams. The cracked cross section is treated as a massless rotational spring which connects two segments of the beam. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the differential equation governing the forced vibration of each segment of the beam is written. By using a mathematical manipulation the time dependent differential equations are transformed into the static substitutes. The crack characteristics are then introduced to the solution of the differential equations via the boundary conditions. By having the time history of transverse response of an arbitrary location along the beam, the flexibility coefficient of crack is calculated. The method is applied for some cracked beams with solid rectangular cross sections and the results obtained are compared with the available data in literature. The comparison indicates that the predictions of the proposed method are in good agreement with the reported data. The procedure is quite general so as to it can be applicable for both single-side crack and double-side crack analogously. Hence, it is also applied for some test beams with double-side cracks.

The flexural behavior of a strengthened beam that is a reinforced concrete beam with externally bonded carbon fiber sheets, is theoretically and experimentally investigated. A rectangular beam having a width of 20cm depth of 30cm and effective depth of 25cm is chosen. In order to have a variety of beams analyzed, three reinforcement ratios are chosen for the analysis: 1)$\frac{1}{2}$$\rho$$_{max}$, which is the most suitable reinforcement ratio for deflection consideration and the highest reinforcement ratio for practical designing beams as well; 2)$\rho$$_{max}$, which is the lowest reinforcement ratio for design purposes; and 3)the reinforcement ratio halfway from 1) and 2). Carbon fiber sheets with width of 15cm are externally bonded at the bottom fiber of the beam. The effect of the amount of carbon fiber sheets varying from 1 to 4 plies on the flexural capacity of the strengthened beam are also examined. Yield loads, ultimate loads, and flexural rigidities of the strengthened beam from the experimental results are composed with theoretical ones.nes.

Equations of motion for the vibration analysis of rotating pre-twisted beams with functionally graded material properties are derived in this paper. Based on Timoshenko beam theory, the effects of shear and rotary inertia are considered. The pre-twisted beam has a rectangular cross-section and is mounted on a rotating rigid hub with a setting angle. Functionally graded material (FGM) properties are considered along the height direction of the beam. The equations of stretching and bending motion are derived by Kane's method employing hybrid deformation variables. To validate the derived equations, natural frequencies of a rotating FGM pre-twisted beam are compared to those obtained by a commercial software ANSYS. The effects of the pre-twisted angle, slenderness ratio, hub radius, volume fraction exponent, and angular speed on the modal characteristics of the system are investigated with the proposed model.
Thin amorphous film of $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ acts as a positive resist in ion beam lithography. Previously, we reported the optical characteristics of amorphous $Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ thin film by the low-energy ion beam exposure and presented analytically calculated values such as ion range, ion concentration and ion transmission coefficient, etc. As the calculated results of analytical calculation, the energy loss per unit distance by $Ga^+$ ion is about $10^3[keV/{\mu}m]$ and nearly constant for all energy range. Especially, the projected range and struggling for 80 [KeV] $Ga^+$ ion energy are 0.0425[${\mu}m$] and 0.020[${\mu}m$], respectively. Hear, we present the results of Monte-Carlo computer simulation of Ga ion scattering, exposure and development in $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ resist film for focused ion beam(FIB) lithography. Monte-Carlo method is based on the simulation of individual particles through their successive collisions with resist atoms. By the summation of the scattering events occurring in a large number N(N>10000) of simulated trajectories within the resist, the distribution for the range parameters is obtained. Also, the deposited energy density and the development pattern by a Gaussian or a rectangular ion beam exposure can be obtained.
This paper presents a finite element (FE) model for predicting the nonlinear response and behavior of a reinforced concrete T-beam deficient in shear under cyclic loading. Cracking loads, failure loads, response hysteresis envelopes and crack patterns were used as bench mark for comparison between experimental and FE results. A parametric study was carried out to predict the optimum combination of the open and close crack shear transfer coefficients (${\beta}_t$ and ${\beta}_c$) of the constitutive material model for concrete. It is concluded that when both shear transfer coefficients are equal to 0.2 the FE results gave the best correlation with the experimental results. The results were also verified on a rectangular shear deficient beam (R-beam) tested under cyclic loading and it is concluded that the variation of section geometry has no effect on the optimum choice of the values of shear transfer coefficients of 0.2. In addition, a parametric study based on the variation of concrete compressive strength, was carried out on the T-beam and it is observed that the variation of concrete compressive strength has little effect on the deflection. Further conclusions and observations were also drawn.
A conventional treatment machine shapes x-ray fields by a set of dense metal collimators(jaws) built into the machine. These collimators are positioned by the therapist using hand controls in the treatment room, and usually remain stationary during treatment. The collimator jaws of treatment machines produce rectangular beams. Conventional beam shaping is accomplished through the use of a combination of these collimator jaws and secondary custom beam blocks attached to the accelerator beyond the collimator Jaws. The jaw positions for a particular field can be retrieved from a computer. One application of this increased capability is replacement of beam blocks for field-shaping with the MLC. There are three basic applications of the MLC. The first application is to replace conventional blocking. A second function of the MLC is related to conformal therapy, adjusting the field shape to match the beam's eye view projection of a planning target volume during treatment. The third application is the use of the MLC to achieve beam intensity modulation. The aim of this paper is to provide basic principle and to state fundamental concepts needed to implement the use of a multileaf collimator in the conventional clinical setting. The use of MLC field shaping is likely to save time and to incur a lower operating cost when compared to the use of beam blocks.
