  • In this thesis, the fatigue tests were performed on a series of reinforced concrete to Investigate the variation of strength and the safety of reinforced concrete structures under fatigue load. The specimens were of the same rectangular cross-section, of effective height 24cm and width 30cm and their span was 330cm. The three point loading system is used in the fatigue tests. In these tests, the fracture mode of reinforced concrete structures under fatigue load, relationship between the repeated loading cycles and the mid-span displacement of the specimens were observed. According to the test results, the following fatigue behavior of reinforced concrete specimens were observed. By increasing of the number of repeated loading cycles, the mid-span displacement became greater, however the Incremental amounts of the displacement were reduced. It could be also known that the inelastic strain energy of the doubly reinforced rectangular beams was larger than that of the singly reinforced rectangular beams as increasing the number of repeated loading cycles. Compliance of reinforced concrete structures tended to be reduced as increasing the repeated loading cycles, and the compliance of the doubly reinforced rectangular beams was generally smaller than that of the singly reinforced rectangular beams. Based on the above investigation, it could be concluded that the doubly reinforced rectangular beams under fatigue load were more efficient to resist the brittle fracture than the singly reinforced rectangular beams.

  • This paper presents a theoretical analysis for the free vibration of rectangular tanks partially filled with an ideal liquid. Wet dynamic displacements of the tanks are approximated by combining the orthogonal polynomials satisfying the boundary conditions, since the rectangular tanks are composed of four rectangular plates. The classical boundary conditions of the tanks at the top and bottom ends are considered, such as clamped, simply supported, and clamped-free boundary conditions. As the facing rectangular plates are assumed to be geometrically and structurally identical, the vibration modes of the facing plates of the tanks can be divided into two categories: symmetric and antisymmetric modes with respect to the planes passing through the center of the tanks and perpendicular to the free liquid surface. The liquid displacement potentials satisfying the Laplace equation and liquid boundary conditions are derived, and the wet dynamic modal functions of a quarter of the tanks can be expanded by the finite Fourier transform for compatibility requirements along the contacting surfaces between the tanks and liquid. An eigenvalue problem is derived using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Consequently, the wet natural frequencies of the rectangular tanks can be extracted. The proposed analytical method is verified by observing an excellent agreement with three-dimensional finite element analysis results. The effects of the liquid level and boundary condition at the top and bottom edges are investigated.

  • In this paper, a rectangular ring microstrip patch antenna has been analyzed by using desegmentation method and evaluation impedance matrices from Green's functions fur rectangular segment and desegmentation method for analysis of planar electro-magnetic structures is discussed. As the rectangular ring cavity could be seen as a structure subtracted a small rectangular cavity from a large one, the overall impedance matrix was obtained by applying a multiport connection method to the individual impedance matrices expressed as a term of Green's function fer rectangular segment. The electromagnetic fields can be solved from a vector potential which is satisfied it's eight boundary conditions. The electric field distribution at each edges was expressed as a histogram table with exciting modes. These results can be used to analyze the operational modes for a rectangular ring microstrip antennas.

  • Shielding effectiveness(SE) of metallic rectangular enclosure with rectangular slit apertures at horizontal polarization (HP) and vertical polarization(VP) is investigated. The magnetic polarizability of the rectangular slit apertures and the resonance modes of the metallic rectangular enclosure are analyzed theoretically. The simulation results based on these theoretical analyses are compared with the measured ones. The dependence of the shielding effectiveness on the location of the calculation probe inside the enclosure is also investigated.

  • The MARS code has been assessed for the prediction of onset of flow instability (OFI) in a vertical channel. For assessment, we built an experiment database that consists of experiments under various geometry and thermal-hydraulic condition. It covers pressure from 0.12 to 1.73 MPa; heat flux from 0.67 to 3.48 MW/m2; inlet sub-cooling from 39 to 166 ℃; hydraulic diameters between 2.37 and 6.45 mm of rectangular channels and pipes. It was shown that the MARS code can predict the OFI mass flux for pipes reasonably well. However, it could not predict the OFI in a rectangular channel well with a mean absolute percentage error of 8.77%. In the cases of rectangular channels, the error tends to depend on the hydraulic diameter. Because the OFI is directly related to the subcooled boiling in a flow channel, we suggest a modified subcooled boiling model for better prediction of OFI in a rectangular channel; the net vapor generation (NVG) model and the modified wall evaporation model were modified so that the effect of hydraulic diameter and heat flux can be accurately considered. The assessment of the modified model shows the prediction of OFI mass flux for rectangular channels is greatly improved.

  • Flexural-torsional behaviors of the typical architectural precast beam sections - inverted tee and rectangular - were compared. The inverted-tee beams were designed with a parking live load - 500kgf/$\textrm{m}^2$ and a market-1,200kgf/$\textrm{m}^2$ according to the currently used typical shape in the domestic market building site. The rectangular beams were also designed as the same bottom dimension and area, and reinforced for similar strength as in the cases of inverted tee beams. Two rectangular and two inverted precast pretensioned concrete beams were tested and analyzed

  • Three-dimensional numerical analysis of the flow around rectangular cylinders with various side ratios, D/H, from 0.2 to 2.0 is carried out for Reynolds number of 1000 by using multi-directional finite difference method in multi-grid. The predicted results are well compared with the experimental data. It is found that fluid dynamics characteristics alternate between high pressure mode. and low pressure mode of the base pressure for rectangular cylinder of D/H=0.2-0.6.

  • In this study, crush characteristics of thin-walled rectangular tube is investigated. The stiffness of the element is obtained from analytical moment-rotation relationship and approximated load-deflection relationship of thin-walled rectangular tube. A computer program is developed for the large deformation analysis of frame. An incremental displacement method is used in the program and at each incremental stage, the stiffness matrix of the total structure is checked with the state each element for bending and compression.

  • Design curves have been prepared for prestressed rectangular beam section based on BS 8110, for determining area of steel for any given cross section, for stresses in concrete and steel and for the design moment. The design moment and the area of steel have been expressed in dimensionless form in terms of cross sectional dimensions and the characteristic strength of concrete. The choice and combination of design parameters result in considerably less number of curves as aid for design of rectangular prestressed beam sections, than those reported in CP 110 (Part 3).

  • In this paper, the input impedance and efficiency of rectangulr microstip patch antenna located inside a rectangular wavegudie is calculated by using the cavity model and the mode excited by te patch antenna which is modeled as an equivanlent surface magnetic current on the conducting plate. Measured return losses of a rectangular microstrip patch antenna tuned at 5.93 GHz in the free space and inside the retangular waveguide are compared and found to be in good agreement with calculated results.
