  • This study was carried out to investigate the change of dimensional stability of thermally compressed Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc.) wood by post heat treatment. Specific gravity of compressed wood was notably increased with thermal compression. In the compression set 50%, compressed Korean pine showed a specific gravity of 0.84. The amount of water absorption and swelling of thermally compressed Korean pine decreased with increasing temperature and time of the heat treatment. Set recovery also decreased with increasing temperature and time of heat treatment. Thermally compressed Korean pine that heat-treated in $120^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours showed a set recovery of 3.8%, whereas non-treated group showed 11.5%. Therefore, it was confirmed that the thermal treatment was a very effective method for the dimensional stability of the heat compressed wood.

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the service recovery fairness of internet fashion shopping mall depending on the type of shopping mall into 3 levels, and analyze their influence on customers' satisfaction and intention to repurchase. Data were collected from 271 customers who had made a complaint or raised a question about service among the customers, and was analyzed through AMOS 7.0. For hypothesis testing, a research model was set up in the form of structure equation model, and its suitability was investigated. The results of this research can be summarized as follows: First, in relation to the service recovery fairness at internet shopping mall, only the consequential fairness has a meaningful relationship with customer satisfaction. Second, it has been shown that the higher the customers' satisfaction with internet shopping mall, the more positive influence it has on intention to repurchase. Third, it has been shown that the influence of service recovery fairness on customers' satisfaction and intention to repurchase has a meaningful difference depending on the type of internet shopping mall. In other words, it has been shown that customer satisfaction is higher at open market than general internet shopping mall. In addition, it has been shown that in open market, only the consequential fairness has a meaningful influence, therefore it will be more effective to strengthen a strategy focused on economical rewards than other fields.

  • In this paper, parallel orthogonal matching pursuit (POMP) is proposed to supplement the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) which has been widely used as a greedy algorithm for sparse signal recovery. The process of POMP is simple but effective: (1) multiple indexes maximally correlated with the observation vector are chosen at the firest iteration, (2) the conventional OMP process is carried out in parallel for each selected index, (3) the index set which yields the minimum residual is selected for reconstructing the original sparse signal. Empirical simulations show that POMP outperforms than the existing sparse signal recovery algorithms in terms of exact recovery ratio (ERR) for sparse pattern and mean-squared error (MSE) between the estimated signal and the original signal.

  • Mortality rates from stroke have been declining. Because of this, more people are living with residual disability. Rehabilitation plays an important role in functional recovery of stroke survivors. In stroke rehabilitation, early prediction of the obtainable level of functional recovery is desirable to deliver efficient care, set realistic goals, and provide appropriate discharge planning. The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of functional outcome after stroke using inpatient rehabilitation as measured by Functional Independence Measure (FIM) total scores. Correlation and stepwise multiple regression analyses were performed on data collected retrospectively from two-hundred thirty-five patients. More than moderate correlation was found between FIM total scores at the time of hospital admission and FIM total scores at the time of discharge from the hospital. Significant predictors of FIM at the time of discharge were FIM total scores at the time of hospital admission, age, and onset-admission interval. The equation was as follows: expected discharge FIM total score = $76.12+.62{\times}$(admission FIM total score)-$.38{\times}(age)-.15{\times}$(onset-admission interval). These findings suggest that FIM total scores at the time of hospital admission, age, and onset-admission interval are important determinants of functional outcome.

  • Simulation was conducted using TRNSYS to evaluate the thermal performance of a facility. This facility has a condensing-type heat exchanger which is able to recover the latent energy for the purpose of reducing the heating energy in winter. The boiler and chiller are selected based on the annual peak loads and controlled to maintain the facility at the set temperature of 14~$17^\circ{C}$. Supplied energy by the boiler and recovered energy by the heat exchanger were calculated as a function of number of pass through heat exchanger, kind of fuel and hot water velocity. Simulation results show that about 20% of the total heating load can be recovered by the heat exchanger and the amount of latent heat is increasing with the number of pass. This means that the efficiency of the waste energy recovery system can be increased by using a condensing-type heat exchanger rather than a traditional sensible heat exchanger.

  • Recently, greedy algorithm has received much attention as a cost-effective means to reconstruct the sparse signals from compressed measurements. Much of previous work has focused on the investigation of a single candidate to identify the support (index set of nonzero elements) of the sparse signals. Well-known drawback of the greedy approach is that the chosen candidate is often not the optimal solution due to the myopic decision in each iteration. In this paper, we propose a tree search based sparse signal recovery algorithm referred to as the tree search matching pursuit (TSMP). Two key ingredients of the proposed TSMP algorithm to control the computational complexity are the pre-selection to put a restriction on columns of the sensing matrix to be investigated and the tree pruning to eliminate unpromising paths from the search tree. In numerical simulations of Internet of Things (IoT) environments, it is shown that TSMP outperforms conventional schemes by a large margin.

  • The data set collected during the night of the discovery of a minor body constitutes a too-short arc (TSA), resulting in failure of the differential correction procedure. This makes it necessary to recover the object during subsequent nights to gather more observations that will allow a preliminary orbit to be calculated. In this work, we present a recovery technique based on sampling the admissible region (AdRe) by the constrained Delaunay triangulation. We construct the AdRe in its topocentric and geocentric variants, using logarithmic and exponential metrics, for the following near-Earth-asteroids: (3122) Florence, (3200) Phaethon, 2003 GW, (1864) Daedalus, 2003 BH84 and 1977 QQ5; and the main-belt asteroids: (1738) Oosterhoff, (4690) Strasbourg, (555) Norma, 2006 SO375, 2003 GE55 and (32811) Apisaon. Using our sampling technique, we established the ephemeris region for these objects, using intervals of observation from 25 minutes up to 2 hours, with propagation times from 1 up to 47 days. All these objects were recoverable in a field of vision of 95' × 72', except for (3122) Florence and (3200) Phaethon, since they were observed during their closest approach to the Earth. In the case of 2006 SO375, we performed an additional test with only two observations separated by 2 minutes, achieving a recovery of up to 28 days after its discovery, which demonstrates the potential of our technique.

  • Exploitation of renewable energies is on the increase to mitigate the reliance on fossil fuels and other natural gases with rocketing prices currently due to the depletion of their reserves not to mention their diverse consequences on the environment. Divergently, there are lots of industries "throwing" heat at higher temperatures as by products into the environment. This waste heat can be recovered through organic Rankine systems and converted to electrical energy with a waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle system (WHR-ORC). This study uses the annual average condenser effluent from Namhae power plant as heat source and surface seawater as cooling source to analyze a waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle using the Aspen HYSYS simulation software package. Hydrocarbon mixtures are employed as working fluid and varied in a ratio of 9:1. Results indicate that Pentane/Isobutane (90/10) mixture is the favorable working fluid for optimizing the waste heat recovery organic Rankine cycle at the set simulation conditions.

  • According to the results of a survey by Boeing, LOC-I (Loss of Control in Flight) was the highest in the number of deaths by fatality accident category in the past 10 years from 2012 to 2021, and the number of deaths worldwide due to LOC-I accidents was 757. It turned out to be the biggest cause of aircraft fatalities, with a figure close to twice the sum of UNK (Unknown or Undetermined), which is the 2nd place, and CFIT (Controlled Flight Into or Toward Terrain), which is the 3rd place. This study set six scenarios related to spatial disorientation that may occur during sensory-dependent flight targeting student pilots and instructor pilots at domestic designated specialized educational institutions using flight simulation training equipment, and in each scenario, the pilot's. The need for SDRT (Spatial Disorientation Recovery Training) is verified by analyzing the flight experience and recovery ability by qualification, and SDRT is repeatedly performed to verify and present the training cycle and time.

  • Recent competitive and technological changes during the past decade have accelerated the need for better capital recovery methods. Competition and technology have together shortened the expected lives of property which could not have been forecasted several years ago. Since the usage of technological growth models has been prevalent in various technological forecasting environments, the various forms of growth models have become numerous. Of six such models studied, some models do significantly better than others, especially at low penetration levels in predicting future levels of growth. A set of criteria for choosing an appropriate model for technological growth models was developed. Two major characteristics of an S-shaped curve were elected which differentiate the various models; they are the skewness of the curve and underlying assumptions regarding the variance of error structure of the model.
