Designing a large recording script for open-domain English speech synthesis

  • This paper proposes a method for designing a large recording script for open domain English speech synthesis. For read-aloud style text, 12 domains and 294 sub-domains were designed using text contained in five different news media publications. For conversational style text, 4 domains and 36 sub-domains were designed using movie subtitles. The final script consists of 43,013 sentences, 27,085 read-aloud style sentences, and 15,928 conversational style sentences, consisting of 549,683 tokens and 38,356 types. The completed script is analyzed using four criteria: word coverage (type coverage and token coverage), high-frequency vocabulary coverage, phonetic coverage (diphone coverage and triphone coverage), and readability. The type coverage of our script reaches 36.86% despite its low token coverage of 2.97%. The high-frequency vocabulary coverage of the script is 73.82%, and the diphone coverage and triphone coverage of the whole script is 86.70% and 38.92%, respectively. The average readability of whole sentences is 9.03. The results of analysis show that the proposed method is effective in producing a large recording script for English speech synthesis, demonstrating good coverage in terms of unique words, high-frequency vocabulary, phonetic units, and readability.

훈민정음 확장 가능성에 대한일반문자학적 검토 (The Globalization of the Korean Script from Scriptological View.)

  • This paper discusses several prerequisites for recording other languages by using Hunminjeongum (Hangeul). The scientific, systematic, and practical features of Hunminjeongum is undoubtedly obvious. Such a view of Hunminjeongeum is based on its iconicity, featural property and non-linearity. However, the existing conviction that Hunminjeongeum can transcribe all human sounds or that Hunminjeongeum is the only script which is easy for anyone to learn requires a more rigorous consideration. Given the fact that all scripts can be evaluated as equal, without one being more superior than the other, all scripts are optimized for recording the language in its own given linguistic context. Further, the function of a script is not just limited in a simple representation of a language. Adding new letters into the system of Hunminjeongeum or maintaining its current mode of notation can be problematic. First, it is important to solve computer-related issues: the registration of Hunminjeongum into the computer system as well as its output, problems regarding unicode, the new developments required for input devices, keyboards, fonts, and computer programs.

XSSClassifier: An Efficient XSS Attack Detection Approach Based on Machine Learning Classifier on SNSs

  • Social networking services (SNSs) such as Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook have become progressively significant with its billions of users. Still, alongside this increase is an increase in security threats such as cross-site scripting (XSS) threat. Recently, a few approaches have been proposed to detect an XSS attack on SNSs. Due to the certain recent features of SNSs webpages such as JavaScript and AJAX, however, the existing approaches are not efficient in combating XSS attack on SNSs. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based approach to detecting XSS attack on SNSs. In our approach, the detection of XSS attack is performed based on three features: URLs, webpage, and SNSs. A dataset is prepared by collecting 1,000 SNSs webpages and extracting the features from these webpages. Ten different machine learning classifiers are used on a prepared dataset to classify webpages into two categories: XSS or non-XSS. To validate the efficiency of the proposed approach, we evaluated and compared it with other existing approaches. The evaluation results show that our approach attains better performance in the SNS environment, recording the highest accuracy of 0.972 and lowest false positive rate of 0.87.

Praat를 이용한 숫자음의 음향적 분석법 (An acoustical analysis method of numeric sounds by Praat)

  • This paper presents a macro script to analyze numeric sounds by a speech analysis shareware, Praat, and analyzes those sounds produced by three students who were born and raised in Pusan. Recording was done in a quiet office. To make a meaningful comparison, dynamic time points in relation to the total duration of voicing segments were determined to measure acoustical values. Results showed that a strong correlation coefficient was found between the repetitive production of numeric sounds within and across the speakers. Very high coefficients among diphthongal numbers (0 and 6) which usually show wide formant variation were noticed. This supports that each speaker produced numbers quite coherently. Also, the frequency differences between the three subjects were within a perceptually similar range. To identify a speaker among others may require to find subtle individual differences within this range. Perceptual experiments by synthesized numeric sounds may lead to resolve the issue.

  • 코로나19의 출현 이후 국내외 공연계는 온라인 플랫폼을 활용해 다양한 예술적 실험을 시도하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 연극 공연을 위한 창작 도구로 활용된 줌(Zoom)의 기능적 특성에 주목하였다. 우선 줌을 활용한 국내외 연극 공연 사례와 그 특징들을 살펴본 후, 줌 연극 <프로젝트, 홍도 Project, Hong-Do>의 제작 단계를 리서치 중심의 프리-프로덕션(Pre-production)단계, 대본을 바탕으로 각 장면을 구성하는 장면 워크숍(Scene Workshop)단계, 장면별 실시간 녹화를 진행하는 레코딩(Recording) 단계와 공연을 상영하기 위한 스트리밍(Streaming) 단계로 구분하여 살펴봄으로써 줌을 통해 창작한 연극의 특성을 고찰할수 있었다. 또한 이러한 제작 과정에서 나타난 배우의 연기 접근 방법을 시선의 분리, 공간의 재인식, 표현적 제스처의 활용, 능동적 행동으로서의 리액션(Reaction)으로 상정하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과 줌을 활용한 연극 작업의 지속적인 발전 가능성과 이에 따른 배우의 연기 접근 방법을 제안할 수 있었다.

스마트교육을 위한 오픈 디지털교과서 (Open Digital Textbook for Smart Education)

  • 스마트교육에서 디지털교과서의 역할은 학습자와 대면하는 교육미디어로써 그 중요성은 재론의 여지없다. 이러한 디지털교과서는 학습자의 편의와 더불어 교수자, 콘텐츠 제작자, 유통업자를 위하여 표준화되어야 활성화되고 산업화될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 3가지 목표를 지향하는 디지털교과서 표준화 방안을 모색한다. (1) 디지털교과서는 온-오프 수업을 모두 지원하는 혼합학습 매체의 역할을 해야 하며, 특별한 전용뷰어 없이 표준을 준수하는 모든 EPUB 뷰어에서 실행가능 해야 하며, 기존의 이러닝 학습 콘텐츠와 학습관리시스템를 활용할 수 있도록 하며, 디지털 교과서를 사용하는 학습자의 정보를 추적 관리할 수 있는 트랙킹기능이 있으면서도, 오프라인 동안의 정보를 축적하여 서버와 통신할 수 있는 기능도 필요하다. 디지털교과서의 표준으로서 EPUB을 고려하는 이유는 디지털교과서가 책의 형태를 가져야 하는데 이를 위해서 따로 표준을 정할 필요가 없으며, EPUB 표준을 채택함으로써 풍부한 콘텐츠, 유통구조, 산업기반을 활용할 수 있기 때문이다. (2) 디지털교과서는 오픈소스를 적극 활용하여 저비용으로 현재 사용가능한 서비스를 구성하여 표준과 더불어 실제 실행 가능한 프로그램으로 제시되어야 하며, 관련 학습 콘텐츠가 오픈마켓의 형태로 운영될 수 있어야 한다. (3) 디지털교과서는 학습자에게 적절한 학습 피드백을 제공하기 위하여 모든 학습활동 정보를 축적하고 관리될 수 있는 인프라를 표준에 따라 구축하여 교육 빅데이터 처리의 기반을 제공하여야 한다. 이북 표준인 EPUB 3.0을 기반으로 하는 오픈 디지털교과서는 (1) 학습활동 정보를 기록하고 (2) 이 학습활동 지원을 위한 서버와 통신하여야 한다. 현재 표준으로 정해져 있지 않은 이북의 기록과 통신 기능을 EPUB 3.0의 JavaScript로 구현하여 현재 EPUB 3.0 뷰어에서도 활용하면서 이를 차세대 이북 표준 또는 교육을 위한 이북 표준(EPUB 3.0 for education)으로 제안하여 향후 제정된 표준 이북 뷰어에서는 JavaScript없이도 처리되도록 하는 전략이 필요하다. 향후 연구는 제안한 오픈 디지털교과서 표준에 의한 오픈소스 프로그램을 개발하고, 개발된 오픈 디지털교과서의 학습활동정보를 활용한 새로운 교육서비스 방안(교육 빅데이터 활용방안 포함)을 제시하는 것이다.

소리 내어 읽기가 유학생의 영어 정형화 배열 학습에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Reading Aloud on International Students' English Formulaic Sequences Learning)

  • 정형화 배열이란 연속적이거나 연속적이지 않은 하나의 덩어리로 인식되는 어휘 덩어리이다. 정형화 배열은 언어 발달의 핵심적인 역할을 하는 것으로 정형화 배열의 습득 여부가 언어 발달의 성패를 좌우한다. 본 연구에서는 유학생들의 정형화 배열 학습방안으로 소리 내어 읽기 활동을 제안한다. 서울 소재 대학의 교양 영어 수업을 듣는 유학생 41명을 대상으로 소리 내어 읽기 활동 중심의 수업을 진행하였다. 15주간 동영상 수업과 줌 실시간 수업을 병행하여 진행하였고, 교재는 애니메이션 겨울왕국을 이용하였다. 동영상 수업에서는 교사가 쉬운 한국어로 영화 대본을 해석하였고 정형화 배열을 소리 내어 읽기를 하였다. 학생들은 과제로 정형화 배열이 포함된 문장을 소리 내어 읽고 녹음하여 제출하였다. 실시간 수업에서는 학생들이 동영상 수업에서 학습한 정형화 배열을 소리 내어 읽기 활동을 하였다. 사전 평가 대비 사후 평가에서 정형화 배열 해석하기와 쓰기에서 유의미한 상승이 있었다. 설문에서는 학생들은 수업에 대한 정의적 영역에서 긍정적인 견해를 나타냈다.

새로 발굴한 가사체 <춘향전>에 대하여 (On the Newly-Discovered Gasa-Style )

  • 논문에서는 새로 발굴한 가사체 <춘향전>을 소개하고자 한다. 지금까지 <춘향전>은 민요나 잡가, 시조나 가사 작품이 삽입가요로 쓰인 경우가 있었어도 작품 전체가 가사체로 바뀐 경우는 일찍이 없었기 때문이다. 이번에 나온 가사체 <춘향전>, 일명 양지욱본 <춘향전>의 작자는 서책의 이면에 기록된 내용으로 보아서 전남 순천군 용두면 대가촌에 살았던 배형(裵珩: ?-?)으로 추정된다. 지어진 시기는 아직 확실치 않지만 고종 37년(1900) 4월로 추정하였다. <춘향전> 서책의 27면에 걸쳐서 종배법(縱排法)에 의해 삼단편언대우법(三段片言對偶法)으로 표기되어 있다. 특정 장면만을 모아서 아예 가사체로 바꾼 것이라는 특징이 있어 <춘향전>이 가사로의 양식적 변모를 시도했던 사례라고 말할 수 있다. 이런 측면은 <춘향전>이 율문에 가깝기 때문에 행가름만 하면 그 자체로서도 가사체와 다를 것이 없을 것으로 보인다. 표기법은 국문과 한자, 그리고 이두를 뒤섞어 사용한 국한이자혼용법(國漢吏字混用法)을 사용하고 있다. 작품에는 잘못된 표기도 많은 편인데, 그것은 이본을 베끼는 과정에서 잘못 적어서 발생한 것이 아니다. 작자가 판소리를 현장에서 직접 듣고 기록하는 과정에서 소리를 따라 기록하다가 빚어진 것으로 보인다. 서사 진행에 있어서는 다른 이본들에 비해 과감한 생략이 뒤따르거나 반대로 확대되는 경우가 있다. 유연한 서사 진행보다는 주요 장면을 부각하여 집중하는 편이 많다고 할 수 있다. 그리고 양지욱본 <춘향전>은 11장면이 순차적으로 이루어져 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 양지욱본 <춘향전>은 과거 장면 이후로 생략되어 있어서 미완성 작품이다. 그리고 이것은 작자로 추정되는 배형이라는 사람이 애초에 소설을 염두에 두고 기록한 것이 아니라, 판소리를 듣고 그 가운데 문장이나 표현이 빼어난 부분을 골라 적은 작품으로 추측된다.

중학교 "환경" 교과의 교수.학습 및 평가 방법 연구 (A Study on Teaching-Learning and Evaluation Methods of Environmental Studies in the Middle School)

  • This study was performed to determine appropriate teaching-learning and evaluation methods for Environmental Studies. To promote the relevance of our study to the needs of the schools and concerned educational communities of environmental education, we reviewed related literature, conducted questionnaire surveys, interviewed related teachers and administrator, held meetings with experts, and field-tested our findings. For selecting and developing teaching-learning methods of Environmental Studies, findings of educational research in general are considered. moreover, principles of environmental education, general aim of environmental education, orientations of environmental education, and developmental stages of middle school students in educational psychology were attended. In addition, relevance to the purpose of the Environmental Studies curriculum, appropriateness for value inquiry as well as knowledge inquiry, small group centered class organization, social interaction centered teaching-learning process, regional environmental situation, significance of personal environment, evaluation methods of Environmental Studies, multi- and inter-disciplinary contents of the Environmental Studies textbook, suitability to the evaluation methods of Environmental Studies, and emphasis on the social interaction in teaching-learning process were regarded. It was learned the Environmental Studies can be taught most effectively in via of holding discussion sessions, conducting actual investigation, doing experiment-practice, doing games and plate, role-playing and carrying out simulation activities, and doing inquiry. These teaching-learning methods were field-tested and proved appropriate methods for the subject. For selecting and developing evaluation method of Environmental Studies, such principles and characteristics of Environmental Studies as objective domains stated in the Environmental Studies curriculum, diversity of teaching-learning organization, were appreciated. We categorized nine evaluation methods: the teacher may conduct questionnaire surveys, testings, interviews, non-participatory observations; they may evaluate student's experiment-practice performances, reports preparation ability, ability to establish a research project, the teacher may ask the students to conduct a self-evaluation, or reciprocal evaluation. To maximize the effect of these methods, we further developed an application system. It considered three variables, that is, evaluates, evaluation objectives domains, and evaluation agent, and showed how to choose the most appropriate methods and, when necessary, how to combine uses of different methods depending on these variables. A sample evaluation instrument made on the basis of this application system was developed and tested in the classes. The system proved effective. Pilot applications of the teaching-learning methods and evaluation method were made simultaneously; and the results and their implications are as follows. Discussion program was applied in a lesson dealing with the problems of waste disposal, in which students showed active participation and creative thinking. The evaluation method used in this lesson was a multiple-choice written test for knowledge and skills. It was shown that this evaluation method and device are effective in helping students' revision of the lesson and in stimulating their creative interpretations and responces. Pupils showed great interests in the actual investigation program, and this programme was proved to be effective in enhancing students' participation. However, it was also turned out that there must be pre-arranged plans for the objects, contents and procedures of survey if this program is to effective. In this lesson, non-participatory observation methods were used with a focus on the attitudes of students. A scaled reported in general description rather than in grade. Experiment-practice programme was adopted in a lesson for purifying contaminated water and in this lesson, instruction objectives were properly established, the teaching-learning process was clearly specified and students were highly motivated. On the other hand, however, it was difficult to control the class when some groups of students require more times to complete their experiment, and sometimes different results. As regards to evaluation, performance observation test were used for assessing skills and attitudes. If teachers use well-prepared Likert scale, evaluation of all groups within a reasonablely short period of time will be possible. The most effective and successful programme in therms of students' participation and enjoyment, was the 'ah-nah-bah-dah-market' program, which is kind of game of the flea market. For better organized program of this kind, however, are essential, In this program, students appraise their own attitudes and behavior by responding to a written questionnaire. In addition, students were asked to record any anecdotes relating to self-appraisal of changes on one's own attitudes and behaviours. Even after the lesson, students keep recording those changes on letters to herself. Role-playing and simulation game programme was applied to a case of 'NIMBY', in which students should decide where to located a refuse dumping ground. For this kind of programme to e successful, concepts and words used in the script should be appropriate for students' intellectual levels, and students should by adequately introduced into the objective and the procedures of the lessons. Written questionnaire was used to assess individual students' attitudes after the lesson, but in order to acquire information on the changes of students' attitudes and skills, pre-test may have to be made. Doing inquiry programme, in which advantages in which students actually investigated the environmental influence of the areas where school os located, had advantages in developing students' ability to study the environmental problems and to present the results of their studies. For this programme to be more efficient, areas of investigation should be clearly divided and alloted to each group so that repetition or overlap in areas of study and presentation be avoided, and complementary wok between groups bee enhanced. In this programme, teacher assessed students' knowledge and attitudes on the basis of reports prepared by each group. However, there were found some difficults in assessing students' attitudes and behaviours solely on the grounds of written report. Perhaps, using a scaled checklist assessing students' attitudes while their presentation could help to relieve the difficulties.
