  • Due to the recent spread and increasing damage of COVID-19, the most important measure to prevent infection is to find infected people early. Group testing which introduced half a century ago, can be used as a diagnostic method for COVID-19 and has become very efficient method. In this paper, we review the fundamental principles of existing group testing algorithms. In addition, the sparse signal reconstruction approach proposed by compressed sensing is improved and presented as a solution to group testing. Compressed sensing and group testing differ in computational methods, but are similar in that they find sparse signals. The our simulation results show the superiority of the proposed sparse signal reconstruction method. It is noteworthy that the proposed method shows performance improvement over other algorithms in the group testing schemes. It also shows performance improvement when finding a large number of defective samples.

  • The state-of-the-art video-based point cloud compression(V-PCC) has a high efficiency of compressing 3D point cloud by projecting points onto 2D images. These images are then padded and compressed by High-Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC). Pixels in padded 2D images are classified into three groups including origin pixels, padded pixels and unoccupied pixels. Origin pixels are generated from projection of 3D point cloud. Padded pixels and unoccupied pixels are generated by copying values from origin pixels during image padding. For padded pixels, they are reconstructed to 3D space during geometry reconstruction as well as origin pixels. For unoccupied pixels, they are not reconstructed. The rate distortion optimization(RDO) used in HEVC is mainly aimed at keeping the balance between video distortion and video bitrates. However, traditional RDO is unreliable for padded pixels and unoccupied pixels, which leads to significant waste of bits in geometry reconstruction. In this paper, we propose a new RDO scheme which takes 3D-Distortion into account instead of traditional video distortion for padded pixels and unoccupied pixels. Firstly, these pixels are classified based on the occupancy map. Secondly, different strategies are applied to these pixels to calculate their 3D-Distortions. Finally, the obtained 3D-Distortions replace the sum square error(SSE) during the full RDO process in intra prediction and inter prediction. The proposed method is applied to geometry frames. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves an average of 31.41% and 6.14% bitrate saving for D1 metric in Random Access setting and All Intra setting on geometry videos compared with V-PCC anchor.

  • When Catastrophic extreme flood occurs due to dam break, the response time for flood warning is much shorter than for natural floods. Numerical models can be powerful tools to predict behaviors in flood wave propagation and to provide the information about the flooded area, wave front arrival time and water depth and so on. But flood wave propagation due to dam break can be a process of difficult mathematical characterization since the flood wave includes discontinuous flow and dry bed propagation. Nevertheless, a lot of numerical models using finite volume method have been recently developed to simulate flood inundation due to dam break. As Finite volume methods are based on the integral form of the conservation equations, finite volume model can easily capture discontinuous flows and shock wave. In this study the numerical model using Riemann approximate solvers and finite volume method applied to the conservative form for two-dimensional shallow water equation was developed. The MUSCL scheme with surface gradient method for reconstruction of conservation variables in continuity and momentum equations is used in the predictor-corrector procedure and the scheme is second order accurate both in space and time. The developed finite volume model is applied to 2D partial dam break flows and dam break flows with triangular bump and validated by comparing numerical solution with laboratory measurements data and other researcher's data.

  • As a result of the development of heavy and chemical industries during the Economic Development Plan, Korean shipbuilding industry expanded its capacity rapidly and became a strategic export industry. The 1973 Arab oil crisis and the subsequent doubling of oil prices greatly reduced world demand for tankers and the market was crashed as numberous orders for tankers were cancelled in Japan and Europe. Under these circumstances, Korean Shipping industry also experienced a decrease in overseas demand for shipbuilding. The Korean government established the 'planned shipbuilding' scheme. The primary purpose of the scheme was to develop the shipbuilding industry, to link the industry to the shipping industry and to develop both industries together. However, Japanese shipping established goals linking with macro-national economic policy, such as saving foreign currencies and freight of importing goods, also assisting reconstruction and development of shipbuilding industry. To accomplish these goals, Japanese government used several policy tools such as financial assistance, law, guidance.

  • Microfluidic chip technology is a research focus in biology, chemistry, and medicine, for example. However, microfluidic chips are rarely applied in imaging, especially in ghost imaging. Thus in this work we propose a ghost-imaging system, in which we deploy a novel microfluidic chip modulator (MCM) constructed of double-layer zigzag micro pipelines. While in traditional situations a spatial light modulator (SLM) and supporting computers are required, we can get rid of active modulation devices and computers with this proposed scheme. The corresponding simulation analysis verifies good feasibility of the scheme, which can ensure the quality of data transmission and achieve convenient, fast ghost imaging passively.

  • In Korea's ship finance, due to the nature of pro-cyclical investment, the private sector's ship finance greatly shrinks during the shipping recession, and policy financial institutions take the lead in ship finance. Meanwhile, the government established the 「Strategy for the Realization of Shipping Industry Leader」 (June 29, '2) and set a development goal by 2030 through support such as securing new high-efficiency ships. To promote financial investment. However, investment in the shipping industry is not easy to induce due to risks and uncertain market conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to review tax benefits that can induce joint investment of investors at the government level. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a Korean version of tax lease scheme for ships in order to resolve the liquidity gap in the domestic ship finance market and successfully implement the five-year plan for reconstruction of shipping industry.

  • In this paper we propose a new mesh reconstruction scheme that produces a displaced subdivision surface directly from unorganized points. The displaced subdivision surface is a new mesh representation that defines a detailed mesh with a displacement map over a smooth domain surface, but original displaced subdivision surface algorithm needs an explicit polygonal mesh since it is not a mesh reconstruction algorithm but a mesh conversion (remeshing) algorithm. The main idea of our approach is that we sample surface detail from unorganized points without any topological information. For this, we predict a virtual triangular face from unorganized points for each sampling ray from a parameteric domain surface. Direct displaced subdivision surface reconstruction from unorganized points has much importance since the output of this algorithm has several important properties: It has compact mesh representation since most vertices can be represented by only a scalar value. Underlying structure of it is piecewise regular so it ran be easily transformed into a multiresolution mesh. Smoothness after mesh deformation is automatically preserved. We avoid time-consuming global energy optimization by employing the input data dependant mesh smoothing, so we can get a good quality displaced subdivision surface quickly.

  • Point cloud data (i.e., LiDAR; Light Detection and Ranging) collected by Airborne Laser Scanner (ALS) system is one of the major sources for surface reconstruction including DEM generation, topographic mapping and object modeling. Recently, demand and requirement of the accurate and realistic Digital Building Model (DBM) increase for geospatial platforms and spatial data infrastructure. The main issues in the object modeling such as building and city modeling are efficiency of the methodology and quality of the final products. Efficiency and quality are associated with automation and accuracy, respectively. However, these two factors are often opposite each other. This paper aims to introduce correction scheme of incorrectly determined Model Key Points (MKPs) regardless of the segmentation method. Planimetric and height locations of the MKPs were refined by surface patch fitting based on the Least-Squares Solution (LESS). The proposed methods were applied to the synthetic and real LiDAR data. Finally, the results were analyzed by comparing adjusted MKPs with the true building model data.

  • There are three kinds of singularity in controlling redundant manipulators. Kinematic, algorithmic and representation singularities are those. If manipulators fall into any singularity without proper action to avoid it, the control system must go away from our desire, and we can meet a dangerous situation. Hence, we have to deal the singularities very carefully. In this paper, we describe an on-line solution for avoiding the occurrence of both algorithmic and kinematic singularities in task-priority based kinematic controllers of robotic manipulators. Representation singularity can be easily avoided by using proper representation algorithm, so, in this paper, we only consider kinematic and algorithmic singularities. The proposed approach uses a desired task reconstruction and a successive task projection in order to maintain the measure for singularity over a user defined minimum value. It shows a gain in performance and a better task error especially when working in proximity of singular configurations. It is particularly suitable for autonomous systems where an off-line trajectory control scheme is often not applicable. The advantage and performance of the proposed controller is verified by simulation works. And, the experiment with real manipulator is remaining for the future works.

  • Aerodynamic shape optimization of two-dimensional airfoils in inviscid compressible flows is performed using a continuous adjoint formulation on unstructured meshes. Accurate evaluation of the gradient is achieved by using a reconstruction scheme based on the Laplacian averaging. A least-square method with extended stencil is used for flow gradient calculations. Proper convergence criterion is studied on Euler and adjoint equations for efficient design. The present method has been applied to RAE2822 and NACA0012 airfoils such that wave drag can be minimized by removing the shock wave. An inverse design is also performed to recover the shock wave on the designed RAE2822 airfoil.
