Comparative Morphology and Seasonality of Campylaephora borealis and C. crassa (Ceramiaceae, Rhodophyta)

  • Populations of Campylaephora borealis (Nakamura) Seo, Cho et Boo and C. crassa (Okamura) Nakamura show a year-around occurrence of all life-history stages. Such a concurrency of life-history stages produces problems in recognizing species in the field. Here, we invesitgated the morphological variation and life-history stages of both species using a statistical character analysis. Life-history stage was correlated with the seawater temperature in C. borealis, whereas it was dependant on biomass in C. crassa. Thalli had dichotomous branches with adaxial branchlets. The statistics showed that the seasonal change in morphology of C. borealis was significantly different from that of C. crassa in seven qualitative characters and five quantitative characters (p < 0.001), although six quantitative features including tetrasporangial size were similar in both species. The morphological difference between the two species may be due to the annual variation of branchlet number and the variance of branch subangle.

  • Recognizing a human part becomes very important for applications which are based on the interaction between computers and their users. In this paper, we design and implement a system which recognizes and tracks a human head using a sequence of images. Difference images are used to easily extract feature vectors from images with very complex backgrounds. A human bhead is represented with an ellipse and recognized by searching for a maximum value from preprocessed gradient images. The method is developed by considering the fact that the tracking system should be real-time. The designed system not only shows an excellent performance for the normal up-right position of the head, but also for the cases of 360.deg. rotated head position, occluded images of heads, and tilted head positions.

Bin-picking method using stereo vision

  • This paper presents a Bin-Picking method in which robot recognizes the positions and orientations of unoccluded objects at the top of jumbled objects placed in a bin, and picks up the unoccluded objects one by one from the jumble. A method using feasible region, painting, and hierarchical test is introduced for recognizing the unoccluded objects from the jumbled objects. The 3D information is obtained using the bipartite-matching method which finds the least difference of 3D by comparing vertexes of one camera with vertexes of the other camera, then hypothesis and test are done. The working order of unoccluded objects is made based on 3D, position, and orientation information. The robot picks up the unoccluded objects from the jumbled objects according to the working order. This all process continues to the empty bin.

  • An education program was developed and evaluated to improve college students 'understanding on gender differences in dating relationships. This program was designed based on literature review and a survey of students' preference on subjects concerned with dating and premarital education. The program consisted of three sessions which were ‘Are men & women different\ulcorner’, ‘How are they different\ulcorner’, and ‘How can we cope with the differences\ulcorner’. Questionnaires and pre/post interviews were adopted for evaluation of the program. Participants reported that they were satisfied with the structure of the program as well as the teaching methods and materials. The program was effective in recognizing the existence of gender differences, understanding gender differences, and improving skills to maintain intimacy in dating relationships.

  • In this study, divide by a private enterprise and army, 2 organizations about observed priority item among administrator, service provider, user viewpoint about the information security item for smartwork activation and in 3 steps hierarchic according to AHP technique analyzed and decided priority for information security observance item. As a result, importance difference could confirm identified by administrator, service provider, user viewpoint period of about information security observance item recognizing in a private enterprise and army.

A Study on the Fractal Attractor Creation and Analysis of the Printed Korean Characters

  • Chaos theory is a study researching the irregular, unpredictable behavior of deterministic and non-linear dynamical system. The interpretation using Chaos makes us evaluate characteristic existing in status space of system by tine series, so that the extraction of Chaos characteristic understanding and those characteristics enables us to do high precision interpretation. Therefore, This paper propose the new method which is adopted in extracting character features and recognizing characters using the Chaos Theory. Firstly, it gets features of mesh feature, projection feature and cross distance feature from input character images. And their feature is converted into time series data. Then using the modified Henon system suggested in this paper, it gets last features of character image after calculating Box-counting dimension, Natural Measure, information bit and information dimension which are meant fractal dimension. Finally, character recognition is performed by statistically finding out the each information bit showing the minimum difference against the normalized pattern database. An experimental result shows 99% character classification rates for 2,350 Korean characters (Hangul) using proposed method in this paper.

Combination of Classifiers Decisions for Multilingual Speaker Identification

  • State-of-the-art speaker recognition systems may work better for the English language. However, if the same system is used for recognizing those who speak different languages, the systems may yield a poor performance. In this work, the decisions of a Gaussian mixture model-universal background model (GMM-UBM) and a learning vector quantization (LVQ) are combined to improve the recognition performance of a multilingual speaker identification system. The difference between these classifiers is in their modeling techniques. The former one is based on probabilistic approach and the latter one is based on the fine-tuning of neurons. Since the approaches are different, each modeling technique identifies different sets of speakers for the same database set. Therefore, the decisions of the classifiers may be used to improve the performance. In this study, multitaper mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) are used as the features and the monolingual and cross-lingual speaker identification studies are conducted using NIST-2003 and our own database. The experimental results show that the combined system improves the performance by nearly 10% compared with that of the individual classifier.

  • This study aims to establish a research model to see how cultural differences affect negotiation outcomes. People from different countries tend to communicate in slightly different ways. So Recognizing the cultural differences in global businesses is an important preparation process and strategy. If such preparations are not made before doing business with companies in other cultures, many conflicts could arise in the negotiation process and even the negotiations could break down. Therefore, it is important to recognize cultural differences and establish appropriate strategies in international negotiations, and it is necessary to take a look at the factors that affect them one by one. For the purpose of this study, Cultural differences based on Edward Hall's context theory and Personal characteristics were set as moderator variables. and The EU countries(low context cultures) and the Korea(high context cultures) were sampled to study the effects of Negotiation strategy(Problem-Solving Approach).

가우시안의 차를 이용하여 검색속도를 향상한 최소 오디오 핑거프린팅 (Search speed improved minimum audio fingerprinting using the difference of Gaussian)

  • 본 논문은 오디오 핑거프린트 데이터 생성 방법과 이를 이용한 오디오 데이터 비교 방법에 관한 것으로서, 오디오 데이터의 특징을 이용하여 음악을 식별하는 방법을 제시한다. 일반적으로 영상인식을 위해 많이 사용되는 가우시안의 차(Difference of Gaussian, DoG)를 오디오 데이터에 적용하여 음악이 급진적으로 변하는 부분을 추출하고, 해당 위치를 핑거프린트로 정의하는 방식이다. 이렇게 만들어진 핑거프린트는 음질의 변화에 민감하지 않으며, 음악 데이터의 일정 부분만으로도 원본과 동일 위치의 핑거프린트 추출이 가능하다. 이 시스템은 기존의 주파수 영역을 이용한 시스템 보다 오디오 핑거프린트의 데이터량과 계산량을 줄여줌으로써 검색을 할 때 보다 효율적인 성능을 나타낸다. 이를 응용하여 인터넷에 유통되는 복사된 음악의 저작권 보호, 또는 음악의 메타정보 등을 사용자에게 나타낼 수 있다.

외국어로서 한국어 교육콘텐츠에서의 성별언어에 대한 인식 (Cognition of Teachers' and Students' Awareness on Gender for the Contents of Korean Language Education)

  • 본 연구는 외국어로서 한국어 연구 중에서 언어와 성의 문제를 분석하기 위하여 교육콘텐츠와 교사-학생의 인식의 관계를 조사하였으며, 또한 외국어 교육에 영향을 미치고 있는 성별언어의 역할을 연구하였다. 성별언어에 대한 교사의 인식과 교육콘텐츠에 대한 균형 있는 시각 및 교사, 학생의 소통은 언어습득의 효과적 결과를 가져올 수 있다. 19명의 교사와 71명의 학습자와의 인터뷰, 설문지 조사를 실시하여 교사는 89.4%가 여성언어가 존재함을 인정하였고, 학생은 49.6%가 성별언어에 대하여 차이점을 인식하고 있었다. 과거보다 언어가 중성화되고 았으며 굳이 남녀 성별언어를 구별하지 않는 이유는 여성의 사회활동 증가에 기언하는 사회적인 영향으로 보고 있었다. 그러므로 문화를 통한 언어교육이 교육콘텐츠의 역할이므로 경우와 시기에 따라 적절하게 이해되어야 할 필요가 있다. 아직 편향된 여성의 지위, 역할, 언어 등이 교재내용에 나타나 있으므로 이는 교사, 학생들의 이해와 수용이 필요하고 교육콘텐츠 개발에 반드시 반영되어야 할 부분이다.
