  • As the environmental problems are recognized as daily problems in our lives, not as issues of those who are engaged in specific professional fields, the interest in environmental education is increasing gradually. The environmental education is the one that studies the environment and its problems and seeks the solutions for them. This paper deals with how the Korean subject will include environmental education. The environmental problems are already dealt with in the Korean textbooks according to the 6th curriculum for the Korean subject. A noticeable fact is that those textbooks connect the skills for language skills with environmental education. That is, the textbooks try to improve 4 language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) with the Korean data related to environment, which can be the most practical means. This tendency will be also reflected in the 7th curriculum for the Korean subject, and the means will be taken by which environmental education will be able to be implemented more effectively through a variety of learning activities. In case of speaking and listening, learning activities such as speaking of, listening to, or discussing the contents concerning environmental problems can be recommended. In case of reading and literature, learning activities such as reading articles or works concerning environmental problems. Through these learning activities the Korean education will be able to achieve the goal in the fields of knowledge, information, and autonomy or attitudes which are the goals of environmental education. If the contents of the Korean curriculum are described in detail, it can be known that the Korean subject have someting to do with knowledge, skills, and recognition more deeply. In the methods In obtain information and knowledge, it will be desirable to recognize knowledge and information indirectly through various reading data rather than to recognize knowledge and information directly. Or it will be desirable to increase the sensitivity about environmental problems through literary works. For this environmental education in the above, we need to utilize discussion or presentation-oriented leaching and learning in the Korean education. Also we need to approach environmental problems by using various teaching media. We need to emphasize the education in the affective domain, especially through expression of emotions. guidance of reactions, internalization, personification, and so on.

Methods: 231 dental technicians who were self-written questionnaire. The results were analyzed by SPSS 12.0. The answers to the questionnaire underwent frequency analysis, chi-square test and correlation analysis were performed to investigate association between health effects and recognition rate of chemical information. Results: The results from the effects of damage caused by chemicals 60.7%, and when it was less than 2 years working experience 47.6%. Currently any dental laboratories(rooms) was not furnished MSDS(0%) and even similar data furnishing rate was only 17.3%. Answer rate of 'Do not know about MSDS' was 73.6%. In addition to, education in the types and characteristics of chemicals(74.5%) does not receive all the higher education. For the question of 'To prevent human risks and accidents, is to provide chemical information needed', the answer rate of 'needed' was 87.2%. Moreover, the answer rate of 'To provide chemical information that could prevent accidents' was 76.6%. Therefore it was found that dental technicians need to be provided for chemical information. In addition, they wanted to get education related to chemicals used in the workplace(80.5%), and 90.9% was answered that they was willing to keep MSDS in they workplace. • In the sustainable waste management, the necessity of environmental education which improves acquisition of the knowledge, attitudes and values for the environment is being emphasized to help students make environmentally desirable decision and promote responsible environmental behavior. However, the environmental education in high schools, as a whole, would be susceptible to many problems caused by tile educational administration focusing only on the college entrance examination. Therefore, this study modifies and applies a program using four teaching/learning methods (Investigation study, Internet-based learning, Field work, Issue analysis study) which deals with the sustainable waste management as the learning subject for the environmental education, and tries to find its effects on the students' environmental sensitivity and environmental conservation behavior in high schools. The main results of this study are summarized as fellows. First, the waste management program had little influence on the environmental sensitivity of experimental groups, while it had positive effect on their improvement of the environmental conservation behavior. Second, there were little meaningful effect on general environmental conservation behavior, but there were some significant results to environmental conservation behavior related to the sustainable waste management. In addition, positive results were found in ecomanagement and consumerism, whereas there were no meaningful results about in persuasion and legal action, which were sub-domains of the waste management program. Among the waste management programs, the school waste investigation study had the most positive effect on the students' recognition and solution of environmental problems as well as improvement of environmental conservation behavior. The easiest one of the four teaching/learning methods was the Internet-based learning, while the most difficult one of them was the issue analysis study. Consequently, in order to achieve the goals of the environmental education in the academic field, there has to be selected the most suitable one of the teaching/learning methods and to be applied to the class, according to the detailed objectives and loaming contents for the environmental education.

  • Today, the importance of environmental education is a matter we are all concerned about. The environment surrounding us, such as the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the soil plants grow in, is critical for our survival. Currently there is a lot of interest in environmental education at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. This is a result of the deep recognition of the importance of the environment. However the environmental education being conducted in schools is not yet at a satisfactory level. The practical issues, including an entrance exam-oriented atmosphere, student' and parents' lack of understanding, and teachers' lack of expertise in environmental education, interfere with the stability of environmental curriculum in the schools. Accordingly, we need to devise an alternative environmental curriculum due to the fact that it hasn't been included as a regular subject in the curriculum of many national schools. This study, carried out from April to December 2009, was an examination of the effect of volunteer work at the place of ecology experience on the environmental sensitivity & state-trait anxiety of the 61 Gifted Students. The students were divided into two groups. The test group consisted of 30 gifted students who did volunteer work at the place of ecology experience run by Ulsan Science High School, in Ulsan Metropolitan City. The control group consisted of the rest of the students. The following are the study results: First, the volunteer work at the place of ecology experience was influential in increasing the environmental sensitivity of the gifted students. Second, the volunteer work at the place of ecology experience was influential in decreasing the state anxiety of in gifted students. Third, the volunteer work at the place of ecology experience was influential in decreasing the trait anxiety of in gifted students. Fourth, the volunteer work at the place of ecology experience positively influenced not only the gifted students' view of environmental education, but also their overall character.

Therefore, these results suggested that a logical and systematic education program for students about the importance of indoor air quality should be carried out.

  • The objectives of this study were to determine the recognition of food waste, school lunch leftovers and satisfaction toward school lunch in middle school students in Seoul. Four hundred students were surveyed beginning April, 2007. The results are summarized as follows. The primary means in which students learned about environmental pollution were 'video media' (54.7% males, 39.2% females) and 'by teachers' (23.2% males, 33.0% females). The primary effects on food habits after participating in the school lunch program were 'having a balanced diet' (23.3%) in the females, and 'decreased intake of junk food' (24.9%) in the males. The serving sizes for cooked rice, soup, and meat were higher in the females (3.46, 3.46, and 2,91, respectively) than the males (3.18, 3.29, and 2.73, respectively). The primary school lunch leftovers for one week were cooked rice (4.55), meat (4.35), kimchi (3.84), fish (3.60), vegetables (3.38), and soup (3.08). Importance-performance analysis of the school lunch meal indicated that good taste had high importance, but low performance. Nutritional balance, food safety, cleanliness of tableware and supplies, clean uniforms of employees, and cleanliness of the dining area had both high importance and performance.
