  • More than 74% of forage crops in Korea are cultivated in winter rice fields. Italian ryegrass (IRG) can be said to be a representative forage crop, but over 70% of its seeds are dependent on imports. In addition, there are concerns that the stable supply of research fees may be disrupted due to the effects of climate change, war, and other factors. Therefore, it is necessary to secure a large production area for stable supply. Korea's reclaimed land area is 135,000 ha and its agricultural area is 112,000 ha. Therefore, this study attempted to apply IRG to the domestic IRG seed industry through stable cultivation techniques on reclaimed land. In this study, IRG 'Kowiearly' varsity was cultivated in late October 2020 and early October 2021 in the Saemangeum reclaimed land. The seeding methods were conventional drill sowing seeding, new technology spot seedling (30 × 18 cm) and new technology drill sowing seeding. The amount of sowing was conventional drill sowing seeding 2.0(kg/10a), new technology spot seedling 1.5(kg/10a), and new technology drill sowing seeding 1.5(kg/10a). Fertilizer application amount is conventional drill sowing seeding(N-P2O5-K2O) 9.0-12-12(kg/10a), and new technology spot seedling and drill sowing seeding were(N-P2O5-K2O) 4.5-12-12(kg/10a) respectively. Fertilizer was applied accordingly. After that, in February, the conventional drill sowing seeding, new technology drill sowing seeding and spot seedling applied 4.0 and 2.2(kg/10a) of nitrogen supplement fertilizer, respectively. Before wintering, plant length was higher in 2022 than in 2021, but leaf number was higher in 2021. Heading time was April 30, 2021 and April 25, 2022. In heading time, plant length was 74 cm in 2021 and 67 cm in 2022, lower than in 2021. On the other hand, There was no difference in the number of panicle and the number of seeds in the 2021 harvester in all treatment plots, and, thus seed yield was no differ. However, the drill sowing seeding and spot seedling of the new technology were somewhat higher than the conventional drill sowing seeding. On the other hand, seed yield was decreased in all treatment plots compared to 2022 because of raifall deficiency in 2021.

  • This study was conducted to identify the effective dyainage-time influencing rice yield and grain quality on a reclaimed saline soil, the experiment conducted at the Gyehwado substation of the Honam Agricultural Research Institute from 2002 to 2003. The experimental field contained $0.1\%\;and\;0.3\~0.4\%$ NaCl in soil solution, respectively. The experiment involved salinity levels as main plot and sub-plot where consisted of 6 treatments in a split plot design with three replicates. Rice yield performance showed a maximum at drainage-time for 35 days after flowering under medium salinity level, but indicated only $64\%$ of yield level compare to low soil salinity. Percentage of well-shaped rice was high in low soil salinity indicating there aye severe affection for grain quality in medium soil salinity regardless water drainage-time.

  • The study area is located on the western coastal region of Korea, partly had been reclaimed lands. Groundwaters of the coastal area show lower Eh and DO values (Eh: 0.57 V ${\rightarrow}$ 0.13 V, DO; 9.7 mg/l ${\rightarrow}$ 1.3 mg/l), and higher Fe concentrations (> 20 mg/l) than those of the inner land (< 0.3 mg/l), indicating that the redox condition of groundwater changes from oxic into suboxic/anoxic conditions as it flows from the inland toward the coastal area. In addition, Fe speciation of groundwater from the coastal area demonstrates that the most dissolved Fe exist as $Fe^{2+}$, reflecting that groundwater is under the anoxic condition to sufficiently occur Fe reduction. According to the result of Fe extraction with the sediment samples from three wells (A, B, C), the sediments provide enough $Fe^{3+}$ to occur the Fe reduction in the groundwater. Integrated all results of the groundwater and sediment, we infer that the Fe reduction to occur in groundwater is associated with the reclamation processes of the study area.

  • Coastal reclamation has created large flat lands, part of which is an attractive site to construct greenhouse complexes for the horticulture industry. Wind environments over these coastal lands are entirely different from those of the inland area, and demand increased structural safety. The objective of this study is to evaluate the structural safety of two single-span greenhouses, peach type and even-span type, under the wind characteristics of coastal reclaimed lands. The wind pressure coefficients acting on the walls and roofs of two greenhouses were measured by wind tunnel experiments, and those acting on the roofs were approximately two times larger than those suggested by the existing design guidelines. Consequently, structural analysis conducted by SAP2000 showed that greenhouse structures designed by the existing guidelines might lead to structural failure under coastal wind conditions because their maximum allowable wind speeds were lower than the design wind speed. Especially, the peach type greenhouse constructed in a reclaimed land could be damaged by approximately 48 % of the design wind speed and needed improvement of structural designs. This study suggested increasing the spacing of rafters with thicker pipes for the peach type greenhouse to enhance economic feasibility of the building under strong wind conditions of reclaimed lands.
