  • In this paper, we propose a sound reception system against surrounding noise for ships based on digital signal processing technologies. In order to suppress unwanted surrounding noises, a digital band-pass filter is designed, which the pass-band of the filter is between 70Hz to 820Hz. Also, we develope a sound direction indicating algorithm with 4 microphones. After filtering the audio signals from 4 microphones, the developed sound direction indicating algorithm can indicate 8 directions. In addition, we implement prototype board for the sound reception using a digital signal processor chip and audio codecs, and verify the proposed algorithm.

  • As personal information is utilized as an important user authentication means, a trustable certification means is being required. Recently, a research on the biometrics system using a part of the human body like a password is being attempted a lot. The face recognition technology using characteristics of the personal face among several biometrics technologies is easy in extracting features. In this paper, we implement a face recognition system for unattended reception interface. Our method is performed by two steps. Firstly the face is extracted using Haar-like feature method. Secondly the method combining PCA and LDA for face recognition was used. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed system, it was tested and experimental results show that the proposed method is applicable for unattended reception interface.

  • In this paper, the microstrip antenna is studied to replace the parabolic antenna in the DBS reception. It is expected that the good picture quality DBS reception will be possible with this antenna irrespective of rain attenuation for the 99.9% time in a monthly average since the C/N ratio f 19dB is proved by the reception experiment of a Koreasat with fabricated antenna. From the results of this paper, it is shown that the electrical characteristics of the microstrip antenna can be improved to the level similar to that of the parabolic antenna. Hence, it is considered that the fabricated microstrip antenna can replace the parabolic antenna in DBS service coverage.

This study is to provide decision-making guidelines for hospital managers and to provide feedback for the efficiency of job process. The target people of the study are outpatients and Cashiers on Chungnam national university hospital in Daejeon. The methods of study are summarized as follows. First, The team managers from a Reception Desk group were appointed. This team managers have the adjustment authority to the Outpatients schedule of doctor and Cashier members. Second, The consolidation of the general Reception desk and special inspection the Reception Desk. A movement line and waiting time of patients were simple and fast to accept. As a result of study, it shows that the TOC is the method for a job process and waiting time improvement, patients' satisfaction increase and we need an objective measurement indexes in the medical treatment industry.

  • In this paper, wish to improve reception performance of general receiver manufacturing broadband reception amplifier that can thread easily in VHF transmit-receive equipment into downsize, light weight, low-cost. Manufactured reception amplifier expressed Characteristic that improve reception sensitive 3dBm in 140MHz ${\cdot}$ 170MHz frequency band. Therefore, may use communications equipment that utilize VHF wide-band more efficiently. Also, practical use degree is considered to be very high because telecommunication of good quality is available.

  • This paper describes a structure of adaptive equalizer to improve reception performance of ATSC digital television (DTV) for 8-VSB receivers. There are many strong and dynamic echoes affecting reliable reception of DTV signal. Conventional DFE based least mean square (LMS) algorithm is readily implemented and has good Performance. There are still problems to be solved, however, in handling strong echoes and indoor reception. In this paper, structure of adaptive equalizer to mitigate these Problems in strong multipath interference conditions and indoor reception environment is first presented. Methods to reduce error propagation effects on DFE and initialization scheme of filter coefficients for fast convergence are then introduced. Computer simulation results prove that an adaptive equalizer with proposed design methods can combat with Brazil Ensemble and the Threshold of Visibility(TOV) is improved.

  • The real-time reception and recording of down-link mission data from a satellite requires the highest reliability because the data lost in receiving process cannot be recovered. The data receiving and recording system has moved from a set of dedicated hardware and software components to commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components in order to reduce the system cost as well as to upgrade the system easily for handling other satellite data. The use of COTS hardware and middleware components prevents the system developer from correcting or modifying the internal operations of the COTS components, and hence, instant performance degradation of the COTS components which affects the reliable data acquisition must be covered by a software algorithm. This paper introduces the instant performance problem of a COTS data recording device which leads to the data loss in the real-time data reception and recording process. As a result, the requirement of the modification of the conventional data read/write technique is issued. In order to overcome the data loss problem due to the use of COTS components and the conventional software technique, a new algorithm called a software buffering technique is proposed. The experiments show that the application of the proposed technique results in reliable real-time reception and recording of high speed serial data.

  • Sound reception system is required to detect the sound and the quadrantal direction of the other ship's horn sound, to overcome the effects of enclosed wall for navigation space, functioning as a sound barrier. However, the realized systems can only provide quadrantal information of the other ship. This paper presents a new arrangement of microphones, having geometrically symmetric deployment with the same distances between sensors and the same angles between adjacent sensors with respect to the geometrical center. The sound pressures received at microphones are transformed into the related envelope signals by applying Hilbert transform. The time delays between microphones are estimated by the correlation functions between the derived envelope signals. This envelope base processing mitigates the noises related to the reflection by ship and sea surface. Then, the directional information is easily defined by using the estimated time delays. The suggested method is verified by the generated signals using boundary element method for a small ship model with sea surface wave. The estimated direction is quite similar to the true one and therefore the proposed approach can be used as an efficient sound reception system.

  • Ultrasonic sensors show various reception characteristics based on the density of the measurement medium; hence, they are used in various fields to benefit from the characteristics of ultrasonic signals. In this study, the reception characteristics according to the thickness of the first matching layer are compared and analyzed for application to gas tank microleak detection. Accordingly, three types of sensors are manufactured with varying thicknesses of the first matching layer, namely 4.8 mm, 5.1 mm, and 5.5 mm; further, a direct measurement method is used wherein the sensor is attached to the inside of the chamber. Experiments are conducted to observe the phase change due to microleakage, which is the most linear in the sensor with the 4.8 mm thick first matching layer. This is assumed to be the result of stable signal transmission and reception with little phase deviations over time because the first matching layer is closest to the ultrasonic wavelength. The other sensors show nonlinear results with increasing thickness of the first matching layer. Through this study, it is found that appropriately selecting the thickness of the first matching layer of the ultrasonic sensor can greatly influence sensor reliability.

  • Recently, the direct terrestrial broadcasting reception has been reduced rapidly and not been improved even in digital broadcast environment. The distribution plan of 700MHz frequency band(Ch.52~69) will make the problem worse because the spectrum might be allocated to mobile communication use. In this paper, we investigated the efficient frequency usage for DTV signal reception improvement and next generation broadcasting. The frequency amount required for reception improvement and for next generation broadcasting service is presented. We estimated the beneficial effect when the spectrum(108MHz Frequency Width) is used for SFN transmission technology, UHDTV and Full-HD 3DTV.
