The present paper is intended to investigate the influence of materials such as cement, mineral admixture and aggregate, on the estimation of compressive strength by P type schmidt hammer. According to the results, the materials of concrete, such as the types of cement, the replacing ratio of mineral admixture, the kinds and maximum size of aggregate, hardly influence on non-destructive test by P type schmidt hammer except for alumina cement, hence, P type schmidt can be applicable to most of the concrete with a wide range. Since the correlativity between the rebound value of P type schmidt hammer and compressive strength is very favorable(above coefficient of correlation 0.96) regardless of materials, it is considered that compressive strength can be estimated comparatively exactly by P type schmidt hammer. The estimating formula of compressive strength by rebound value are derived from this experiment as following. $\cdot$Horizontal strike : Fc = 0.765RH - 5.74 (R=0.965) $\cdot$ Vertical strike Fc = 0.793RV - 8.66 (R=0.959)

This paper presents comparisons of pullout load of concrete with compressive strength of cylinders and cores, pulse velocity, and rebound number. A pullout test, which is a relatively new nondestructive technique, measures with a special tension ram the force required to pullout a specially shaped steel rod whose enlarged end has been cast into a concrete block. In this study 3 concrete mixes(normal strength, high-strength & super-high-strength) were made. From each mix, one 100$\times$70$\times$20 concrete block, 24 cylinders$(\phi10mm)$were casted. Each tests were performed on the concrete blocks at 3, 7, 28, and 91days. The test data shows that the pullout test is superior to the rebond hammer and the pulse velocity measurements on the evaluation of concrete strength. The pullout test is satisfactory for estimating the strength of in situ concrete at both early and late age, and its results can be reproduced with an acceptable degree of accuracy.
The relmund hammer test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test methods are commonly used to determine the in-situ compressive strength of concrete. One of the special feature of these methods is that they cannot give consistent and reliable results for variety of structures. In particular, very old existing structures have been generally received sreious environmental affectsand thus the strength prediction will be different from normal structures. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to propose realistic equations to predict the in-situ strengths of actual old concrete structures. The rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests, carbonation depth measurments and core compressive strength measurements have been carried out for very old hydraulic and seacoast concrete structures spanning from one to about seventy years in age. From these test results, the strength-rebound number relations, the strength-pluse velocity relatinns and the strength-rebound number-pluse velocity relations have been obtained through multiple regression analysis. The present study indicates that the existing equations by nondestructive tests give quite different results from the present data. The proposed equations reasonably well predict the measured data for old concrete structures, especially for low strength concrete. The prediction equations proposed here can be efficiently used in determining the in-situ strength of old concrete structures.
The main objectives of this study are to investigate the anisotropic characteristics of rocks and to evaluate the relationships between physical properties. A series of experiments were performed in three mutually perpendicular directions for three rock types, which are granite, granitic gneiss and limestone. The relationships of measured physical properties were evaluated. The results of ultrasonic wave velocity measurement show that granite of three rock types gives the largest directional difference, and that the wave velocity in a plane parallel to a transversely isotropic one is dominantly faster than that in a subvertical or vertical plane. It implies that ultrasonic wave velocity for rock could be used as a useful tool for estimating the degree of anisotropy. The ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to Brazilian tensile strength ranges approximately from 13 to 16 for granite. from 8 to 9 for granite gneiss, and from 9 to 18 for limestone. The directional differences for granite and granitic gneiss are very small, and on the other hand, is relatively large for limestone. It is suggested that strength of rock makes quite difference depending on the rock types and loading directions, especially for the anisotropic rocks such as transversely isotropic or orthotropic rocks. The ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to point load strength index ranges from 18 to 20 for granite, from 17 to 19 for granitic gneiss, and from 21 to 24 for limestone. These results show that point load strength index makes also a difference depending on rock types and directions. Therefore. it should be noted that the ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to point load strength index could be applied to all rock types. Uniaxial compressive strength shows relatively good relationship with point load strength index, Schmidt hammer rebound value, and tensile strength. In particulat, point load strength index is shown to be the best comparative relationship. It is indicated that point load test is the most useful tool to estimate an uniaxial compressive strength indirectly.

Out of all the nondestructive test (NDT) methods, the pullout test is one of the most reliable techniques for estimating the strength of concrete under construction. However the pullout test inevitably produces significant surface damage because of the inherent test mechanism and costs too much for using measurement devices. In the view of construction engineers and inspectors, the main purpose of NDT methods for concrete is to verify whether the concrete strength of structure members exceeds the target strength or not. In this paper, a new pullout test method, which involves a pre-installed breaking bolt, with pre-determined breaking torques corresponding to the target strength of concrete, is introduced with related test data. The three types of test, the rebound hammer test, the pullout test, and the new pullout test with breaking bolt, were carried out on wall specimen with three types of concrete strengths. Our results show that concrete strength as evaluated by the pullout test with breaking bolt was similar with cylinder test results. Therefore it can be said that the new pullout test with breaking bolt is a useful method for checking the concrete strength without any surface damages in construction site.

Harbor facilities require long-term durability and safety, and also maintain the performance requirement until the durability life. However, existing harbor facilities are becoming superannuated with durable years and durability is declined by erosion of the sea and damage from sea. In addition, harbor facilities will be in demand for the expansion of harbor and offshore structures with rising economic power by enhancement of domestic industry and increase of import and export. Therefore, in this study, two kinds of nondestructive test (NDT) techniques (schmidt rebound hammer and ultrasonic sensor) are verified for the effective maintenance of underwater concrete structures including harbor facilities. Sea field applicability of Schmidt hammer and ultrasonic sensor was verified by comparing field test result with sea field test result and also deduced the compressive strength estimation equation by depth of the water. On the basis of the sea field test result, compressive strength estimation equation which was deduced by multiple regression analysis indicated highest accuracy compared to other equations, especially it will be more likely to be used in underwater because of the depth of water correction. In the future, if schmidt hammer and ultrasonic sensor which were invented as waterproofing are used with ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle), it will be possible to make a diagnosis of high reliability for underwater concrete structures and set up a ubiquitous concept of NDT system.

As the earth's current global warming has caused elevation of sea water temperature, size of storms is foreseen to increase and consequently large damages on port facilities are to be expected. In addition, due to the improved processing efficiency of port cargo volume and increasing necessity for construction of eco-friendly port, demands for various forms of port facilities are anticipated. In this study, two kinds of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques (rebound hardness and ultrasonic pulse velocity methods) are investigated for the effective maintenance of smart green harbor system. A new methodology to estimate the underwater concrete strengths is proposed and its feasibility is verified throughout a series of experimental works.

This paper aims to evaluate hydration and intensity property of different kind of members and intensity in order to evaluate compressive strength of structural concrete using Joint Separation Test Body(JSTB). In fact it is difficult to test and evaluate already have constructed member. In this case, common method used by construction engineer is that ; Schmidt rebound hammer test, Ultrasonic pulse test, Method of using test specimen previously cast. However, these method to control the structural intensity involve many problem and impossibility to adapt construction. 80, this paper proposes advance an opinion which have proper to examine intensity. has also aims to examine its validity and the plan to make similar environment with structural concrete and joint separation test body in order to verify efficiency assessment and on-site application.
Los Angeles abrasion loss test has usally been applied to the quarry for the purpose of aggregate hardness estimation. 324 blocks from 25 sites of Kyeongsang basin samples of sedimentary rock were examined and tested in laboratary. This paper found that L. A. abrasion loss test is a good method to estimate engineering index such as uniaxial compressive strength, elastic modulus, indirect tensile strength, point load strength index, Schmidt hammer rebound value of sedimentary rocks with high correlation factor. Engineers will prefer L. A. abrasion loss test to the other one for design and construction as this method is quick and easy.
The slag through sieve #4 replaced the natural fine aggregate in different proportions (0-50%) to make ready-mixed soil and slag (RMSAS). The fresh properties studied, and the concrete specimens were produced to test the hardened properties at different ages. Results showed that the workability of RMSAS decreases when the replacement increases. The unit weight increases with the replacement. The setting time extends when the replacement decreases and shortens when the replacement increases. The compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and hammer rebound value increase with the replacement. However, the high-replacement results decrease because of the expansion factor at late age. Resistivity is close and less than $20k{\Omega}-cm$. After the industrial of steelmaking by-products are processed properly, they can be used in civil engineering, not only as a substitute for natural resources and to reduce costs, but also to provide environmental protection.
