Manual estimation of rebar quantities by contractors often yields discrepancies between projected and actual amounts used in the construction phase, leading to cost inaccuracies and potential logistical challenges. To address these issues, there is a clear need for a method that allows precise estimation of rebar quantities during the design phase. Such a method would enhance contractor competitiveness during project bids, promote accurate cost calculations, and avert superfluous rebar purchases on-site. Given that columns are the primary structural components in reinforced concrete(RC) buildings and necessitate considerable amounts of rebar, this study focuses on creating an automated algorithm for estimating column rebar quantities. An analysis of the accurate quantities obtained via the study and those derived from manual estimation reveals a discrepancy of 0.346 tons or 2.056%. This comparison affirms the proposed algorithm's efficacy in eliminating errors from overestimation or underestimation of rebar quantities. The practical implications of this study are significant for construction companies as it fosters efficient and precise estimation of rebar quantities, ensuring compliance with related specifications and governing regulations.

In order to devise a rebar usage optimization algorithm, it is necessary to calculate the exact rebar length and revise the arrangement of rebars into special lengths. However, the process of rearranging numerous rebars and manually calculating their quantities is time-consuming and requires significant human resources. To address this challenge, it is necessary to develop an algorithm that can automatically estimate the length of rebars and calculate their quantities. This study aims to create an automatic estimation algorithm that improves work efficiency while ensuring accurate and reliable calculations of rebar quantities. The algorithm considers various factors such as concrete cover, hook length, development length, and lapping length, mandated by the building codes, to calculate the quantity of rebars for wall structures. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by comparing the rebar quantities generated by the algorithm with manually calculated quantities, resulting in a difference rate of 1.14% for the hook case and 1.37% for the U-bar case. The implementation of this method enables fast and precise estimation of rebar quantities, adhering to relevant regulatory codes.

Automated rebar fabrication, which requires effective information exchange between model designers and fabricators, has brought the integration and interoperability of data from different sources to the notice of both academics and industry practitioners. Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) was one of the most commonly used data formats to represent the semantic information of prefabricated components in buildings, whereas the data format utilized by rebar fabrication machine is BundesVereinigung der Bausoftware (BVBS), which is a numerical data structure exchanging reinforcement information through ASCII encoded files. Seamless transformation between IFC and BVBS empowers the automated rebar fabrication and improve the construction productivity. In order to improve data interoperability between IFC and BVBS, this study presents an IFC extension based on the attributes required by automated rebar fabrication machines with the help of Information Delivery Manual (IDM) and Model View Definition (MVD). IDM is applied to describe and display the information needed for the design, construction and operation of projects, whereas MVD is a subset of IFC schema used to describe the automated rebar fabrication workflow. Firstly, with a rich pool of vocabularies practitioners, OmniClass is used in information exchange between IFC and BVBS, providing a hierarchy classification structure for reinforcing elements. Then, using International Framework for Dictionaries (IFD), the usage of each attribute is defined in a more consistent manner to assist the data mapping process. Besides, in order to address missing information within automated fabrication process, a schematic data mapping diagram has been made to deliver IFC information from BIM models to BVBS format for better data interoperability among different software agents. A case study based on the data mapping will be presented to demonstrate the proposed IFC extension and how it could assist/facilitate the information management.

In this study, in order to confirm the applicability of Hollow Glass Powder(HGP) in 70MPa-class high strength concrete, the fresh and hardened states were examined according to the amount of HGP, and the results are as follows. The flow characteristics showed that the slump flow increased slightly as the amount of HGP was increased, and the T500 was slightly shortened as the amount of HGP was increased, and the rebar passing ability was improved due to the ball bearing effect of HGP. In particular, it showed the best rebar passing ability at a usage of 1.0kg/㎥. The use of HGP 1.0kg/㎥ resulted in a 40% reduction in plastic viscosity, but the viscosity increased at 2.0kg/㎥. Through experiments, it was confirmed that HGP was helpful in improving the workability of high-strength concrete, and the usage of 1.0kg/㎥ is considered to be the most appropriate. It was confirmed that HGP does not affect concrete compressive strength.

Amount of demolished concretes is highly produced as dismantlement of structures to increased owing to usage alteration and deteriorated of concrete structures, but most of them have been used as material for simple reclamation. Therefore, if demolished concrete could be recycled as aggregate for concrete. it will contribute to solve the exhaustion of nature aggregate, in terms of saving resources and protecting environment, especially being want of resources in Korea. In this study it was investigated into experimental results that were carried out demolished concrete recycled aggregate gained from dismantled real structures and source concrete recycled aggregate produced according to respectively 5 steps of replacement ratio for recycling as pavement concrete aggregate.

The corrosion of steel reinforcement in reinforced concrete bridge decks significantly affects the degradation of the capacity. Due to the advantageous characteristics such as high tensile strength and non-corrosive property, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been gathering much interest from designers and engineers for possible usage as a alternative reinforcement for a steel reinforcing bar. However, its application has not been widespread, because there data for short- and long-term performance data of FRP reinforced concrete members are insufficient. In this paper, seven full-scale decks with dimensions of $4000{\times}3000{\times}240mm$ were prepared and tested to failure in the laboratory. The test parameter was the bottom reinforcement ratio in transverse direction. The decks were subjected to various levels of concentrated cyclic load with a contact area of $577{\times}231mm$ to simulate the vehicle loading of DB-24 truck wheel loads acting on the center span of the deck. It was observed that the glass FRP (GFRP) reinforced deck on a restraint girder is strongly effected to the level of the applied load rather than the bottom reinforcement ratio. The study results showed that the maximum load less than 58% of the maximum static load can be applied to the deck to resist a fatigue load of 2 million cycles. The fatigue life of the GFRP decks from this study showed the lower and higher fatigue performance than that of ordinary steel and CFRP rebar reinforced concrete deck. respectively.

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been gathering interest from designers and engineers for its possible usage as a replacement reinforcement of a steel reinforcing bar due to its advantageous characteristics such as high tensile strength, non-corrosive material, etc. Since it is manufactured with various contents ratios, fiber types, and shapes without any general specification, test results for concrete members reinforced with these FRP reinforcing bars could not be systematically used. Moreover, since investigations for FRP reinforced members have mainly focused on short-term behavior, the purpose of this study is to evaluate long-term behaviors of glass FRP (GFRP) reinforcing bar and concrete beams reinforced with GFRP. In this paper, test results of tensile and bond performance of GFRP reinforcing bar and creep behavior are presented. In the creep tests, results showed that 100 years of service time can be secured when sustained load level is below 55% of tensile strength of GFRP reinforcing bar. A modification factor of 0.73 used to calculate long-term deflection of GFRP reinforced beams was acquired from the creep tests for GFRP reinforced concrete beams. It is expected that these test results would give more useful information for design of FRP reinforced members.
An experimental investigations on the bond-slip properties of the steel and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer(GFRP) bars in engineered cementitious composite (ECC) with Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) fibers are presented. Total of 8 beam specimens prepared according to the Rilem procedures with 2% of PVA and PE fiber volume percentage and steel and GFRP reinforcements significantly changed the failure mechanism and slightly improved bond strength. The main objective of the tests was to evaluate the load versus displacement and load versus slip behaviors and the bond strength for the following parameters: concrete type (normal and fiber concrete) and bar diameter (10 and 13 mm). The study results showed that ordinary concrete and ECC specimens showed similar behavior for steel reinforced specimen. However, GFRP reinforced specimen showed different behavior that the steel specimen. The code analytical results showed more accuracy compared to the experimental results as expected in conservative code provisions. Based on the obtained results, it is safe to conclude that the new parameters need to be adopted to ensure safe usage of ECC for construction applications.
LNG storage tank is a facility to store liquefied natural gas (LNG) and its safety and stability to be greatly needed. When there is a LNG leakage in case of primary container problem, a special facility such as a bund wall should be constructed to store the leaked LNG. But this method makes the land usage inefficient and construction price high. So nowadays the full containment type LNG storage tank is selected instead of constructing a bund wall. In the full containment type tank, the concrete sidewall has the ability to store LNG temporarily. There are largely two methods to give the concrete sidewall the ability. In a method, rebar should be used when constructing the side wall of the LNG storage tank. In the other method, the protecting material such as sprayed polyurethane foam should be applied on the inner surface of the concrete sidewall. Sprayed PUF keeps the temperature of the sidewall above the specified temperature during the specified periods. Recently the thermal stability reinforcing method using sprayed polyurethane foam has been applied to all LNG storage tank built in Korea.

Fresh water that can be used by a person of the total amount of water on the planet is increased because it is less than 0.01 % except underground water, ice and snow, etc. water management response need. In order to protect and efficiently utilize water resources, major countries are conducting water footprint studies that can quantitatively estimate the amount of water put into the operating phase of the resource harvesting phase, mainly agriculture. Korea has also recently developed a number of policies in order to cope with water shortages, and in the construction industry, as well as the need for basic research to support it has been emphasized. This study was constructed DB up to the raw material harvesting step, the transport step, the production stage in order to estimate the water consumption of resources to be put into the work process to target the drainage of the road. Water usage estimation method was utilized the method presented in the Water Footprint Manual and the environmental score card certification guide, unit water usage each drainage main method was calculated after estimating the water footprint considering the water character factor, indirect water and the direct water, the water consumption factor of material input to each process. Brown asphalt, rebar, remicon of the drainage material as a result of the water footprint calculation accounted for 97 % of the total. Drainage method is a culvert, a side channel, a culvert wing wall, reinforced concrete open channel accounted for 92.2 % of the total. Drainage total step-by-step calculated water consumption and water footprint was found in order of raw material harvesting step, transport stage, production stage. Water footprint each drainage method or total drainage material calculated in this study can be used as a base data in the agricultural and construction sectors. In order to increase the reliability of the analysis, it is believed that further overseas databases will be needed for continuous review and research.
