We consider a satellite mission scheduling problem, which is a promising problem in recent satellite industry. This problem has various considerations such as customer importance, due date, limited capacity of energy and memory, distance of the location of each mission, etc. Also we consider the objective of each satellite such as general purpose satellite, strategic mission and commercial satellite. And this problem can be modelled as a general knapsack problem, which is famous NP-hard problem, if the objective is defined as to maximize the total mission score performed. To solve this kind of problem, heuristic algorithm such as taboo and genetic algorithm are applied and their performance are acceptable in some extent. To propose more efficient algorithm than previous research, we applied a particle swarm optimization algorithm, which is the most promising method in optimization problem recently in this research. Owing to limitation of current study in obtaining real information and several assumptions, we generated 200 satellite missions with required information for each mission. Based on generated information, we compared the results by our approach algorithm with those of CPLEX. This comparison shows that our proposed approach give us almost accurate results as just less than 3% error rate, and computation time is just a little to be applied to real problem. Also this algorithm has enough scalability by innate characteristic of PSO. We also applied it to mission scheduling problem of various class of satellite. The results are quite reasonable enough to conclude that our proposed algorithm may work in satellite mission scheduling problem.
With the recent advances in smart grid technologies and the increasing dissemination of smart meters, the power usage of each time unit can be detected in modern smart building environments. Thus, the utility company can adopt different price of electricity at each time slot considering the peak time. Korea government also announces the smart-grid roadmap that includes a law for realtime price of electricity. In this paper, we propose an efficient power scheduling scheme for smart buildings that adopt smart meters and real-time pricing of electricity. Our scheme dynamically changes the power mode of each consumer device according to the change of power rates. Specifically, we analyze the electricity demands and prices at each time, and then perform real-time power scheduling of consumer devices based on collaboration of each device. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces the electricity charge of a smart building by up to 36.4%.
This paper deals with the single-hoist and multiple-products scheduling problem. Although a mixed integer linear programming model for the problem was developed earlier, a branch-and-bound based heuristic algorithm is proposed in this paper to solve the big-size problems in real situation. The algorithm is capable of handling problems incorporating different product types, jobs in the process, and tank capacities. Using a small example problem the procedure of the heuristic algorithm is explained. To assess the performance of the heuristic we generate a bigger example problem and compare the results of the algorithm proposed in this paper with the optimal solutions derived from the mathematical model of earlier research. The comparison shows that the heuristic has very good performance and the computation time is sufficiently short to use the algorithm in real situation.
In this paper, a cell scheduling algorithm is proposed to satisfy the service requirements of CBR, VBR traffics. Particularly, inthe proposed algorithm an ABR traffic which is not included in the conventional cell schedulaing algorithm is treated as one kind of traffic types. The algorithm of RT-VBR and NRT-VBR traffic such that the service requrements of RT-VBR and NRT-VBR traffic are satisfied. The proposed algorithm dynamically schedules cells in a real time by considerin the current traffic conditions. The simulation of the proposed algorithms such as WRR or DWRR in terms of the mean delay time and the maximum queue length.
This paper considers a new variation of scheduling problems where jobs are dispatched in batches. The variation is the case where the batch sequence is fixed. The objective is to minimize the sum of the completion times of the batches. This simple environment has a variety of real world applications such as part kitting and customer order scheduling. We show that this problem is binary NP-complete when there exist two machines. For the same problem, we develop an optimal dynamic programming (DP) algorithm which runs in pseudo-polynomial time. We finally prove the optimality of the DP algorithm.
Maintenance scheduling plays an important role in evaluating the supply reliability of power systems. Since generating units must be maintained and inspected, the generation planner must schedule planned outages during the year. Several factors entering into this scheduling analysis include: seasonal load-demand profile, amount of maintenance to bo done on all generating units, size of the units, elapsed time from last maintenance, and availability of maintenance crews. This paper proposes a new algorithm to decide the multi-year maintenance scheduling with considering the total cost. We adjust the maintenance scheduling to levelize the reliability over all period. The proposed algorithm is applied to a real size power system and the developed reliability results are obtained.

In the Recent times, various technological enhancements in the field of artificial intelligence and big data has been noticed. This advancement coupled with the evolution of the 5G communication and Internet of Things technologies, has helped in the development in the domain of smart mine construction. The development of unmanned vehicles with enhanced and smart scheduling system for open-pit mine transportation is one such much needed application. Traditional open-pit mining systems, which often cause vehicle delays and congestion, are controlled by human authority. The number of sensors has been used to operate unmanned cars in an open-pit mine. The sensors haves been used to prove the real-time data in large quantity. Using this data, we analyses and create an improved transportation scheduling mechanism so as to optimize the paths for the vehicles. Considering the huge amount the data received and aggregated through various sensors or sources like, the GPS data of the unmanned vehicle, the equipment information, an intelligent, and multi-target, open-pit mine unmanned vehicle schedules model was developed. It is also matched with real open-pit mine product to reduce transport costs, overall unmanned vehicle wait times and fluctuation in ore quality. To resolve the issue of scheduling the transportation, we prefer to use algorithms based on artificial intelligence. To improve the convergence, distribution, and diversity of the classic, rapidly non-dominated genetic trial algorithm, to solve limited high-dimensional multi-objective problems, we propose a decomposition-based restricted genetic algorithm for dominance (DBCDP-NSGA-II).
This paper considers subway crew scheduling problem. Crew scheduling is concerned with finding a minimum number of assignments of crews to a given timetable satisfying various restrictions. Traditionally, crew scheduling problem has been formulated as a set covering or set partitioning problem possessing exponentially many variables, but even the LP relaxation of the problem is hard to solve due to the exponential number of variables. In this paper. we propose two basic techniques that solve the subway crew scheduling problem in a reasonable time, though the optimality of the solution is not guaranteed. We develop an algorithm that solves the column-generation problem in polynomial time. In addition, the integrality of the solution is accomplished by variable-fixing technique. Computational result for a real instance is reported.
