In this paper, a new face tracking algorithm is proposed. The CamShift (Continuously adaptive mean SHIFT) algorithm shows unstable tracking when there exist objects with similar color to that of face in the background. This drawback of the CamShift is resolved by the proposed algorithm using Kinect's pixel-by-pixel depth information and the skin detection method to extract candidate skin regions in HSV color space. Additionally, even when the target face is disappeared, or occluded, the proposed algorithm makes it robust to this occlusion by the feature point matching. Through experimental results, it is shown that the proposed algorithm is superior in tracking performance to that of existing TLD (Tracking-Learning-Detection) algorithm, and offers faster processing speed. Also, it overcomes all the existing shortfalls of CamShift with almost comparable processing time.
This paper presents a real-time low-resolution face recognition method that uses a super-resolution technique. Conventional face recognition methods are limited by low accuracy resulting from the distance between the camera and objects. Although super-resolution methods have been developed to resolve this issue, they are not suitable for integrated face recognition systems. The proposed method recognizes faces with low resolution using key frame selection, super resolution, face detection, and recognition on real-time processing. Experiments involving several databases indicated that the proposed algorithm is superior to conventional methods in terms of face recognition accuracy.

Face recognition is very challenging because of the unexpected changes of pose, expression, and illumination. Facial detection in the mobile environments has additional difficulty since the computational resources are very limited. This paper discusses face detection based on frequency domain matched filtering in the mobile environments. Face detection is performed by a linear or phase-only matched filter and sequential verification stages. The candidate window regions are selected by a number of peaks of the matched filtering outputs. The sequential stages comprise a skin-color test and an edge mask filtering tests, which aim to remove false alarms among selected candidate windows. The algorithms are built with JAVA language on the mobile device operated by the Android platform. The simulation and experimental results show that real-time face detection can be performed successfully in the mobile environments.
Sensor faults in nuclear power plant instrumentation have the potential to spread negative effects from wrong signals that can cause an accident misdiagnosis by plant operators. To detect sensor faults and make accurate accident diagnoses, prior studies have developed a supervised learning-based sensor fault detection model and an accident diagnosis model with faulty sensor isolation. Even though the developed neural network models demonstrated satisfactory performance, their diagnosis performance should be reevaluated considering real-time connection. When operating in real-time, the diagnosis model is expected to indiscriminately accept fault data before receiving delayed fault information transferred from the previous fault detection model. The uncertainty of neural networks can also have a significant impact following the sensor fault features. In the present work, a pilot study was conducted to connect two models and observe actual outcomes from a real-time application with an integrated system. While the initial results showed an overall successful diagnosis, some issues were observed. To recover the diagnosis performance degradations, additive logics were applied to minimize the diagnosis failures that were not observed in the previous validations of the separate models. The results of a case study were then analyzed in terms of the real-time diagnosis outputs that plant operators would actually face in an emergency situation.
Human face avatar is important information in nowadays, such as describing real people in virtual world. In this paper, we have presented a face avatar creation and warping algorithm by using face feature analysis method, in order to detect face feature, we utilized local mean method based on facial feature appearance and face geometric information. Then detect facial candidates by using it's character in $YC_bC_r$ color space. Meanwhile, we also defined the rules which are based on face geometric information to limit searching range. For analyzing face feature, we used face feature points to describe their feature, and analyzed geometry relationship of these feature points to create the face avatar. Then we have carried out simulation on PC and embed mobile device such as PDA and mobile phone to evaluate efficiency of the proposed algorithm. From the simulation results, we can confirm that our proposed algorithm will have an outstanding performance and it's execution speed can also be acceptable.
In this paper the real-time face region was detected by suggesting the rectangular feature-based classifier and the robust detection algorithm that satisfied the efficiency of computation and detection performance was suggested. By using the detected face region as a recognition input image, in this paper the face recognition method combined with PCA and the multi-layer network which is one of the intelligent classification was suggested and its performance was evaluated. As a pre-processing algorithm of input face image, this method computes the eigenface through PCA and expresses the training images with it as a fundamental vector. Each image takes the set of weights for the fundamental vector as a feature vector and it reduces the dimension of image at the same time, and then the face recognition is performed by inputting the multi-layer neural network.
In this paper, we have proposed personal multimodal biometric authentication system based on face detection, recognition and speaker verification for smart-phone environment. Proposed system detect the face with Modified Census Transform algorithm then find the eye position in the face by using gabor filter and k-means algorithm. Perform preprocessing on the detected face and eye position, then we recognize with Linear Discriminant Analysis algorithm. Afterward in speaker verification process, we extract the feature from the end point of the speech data and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient. We verified the speaker through Dynamic Time Warping algorithm because the speech feature changes in real-time. The proposed multimodal biometric system is to fuse the face and speech feature (to optimize the internal operation by integer representation) for smart-phone based real-time face detection, recognition and speaker verification. As mentioned the multimodal biometric system could form the reliable system by estimating the reasonable performance.
This paper first discusses the disadvantages of the existing CamShift Algorithm for real time face tracking, and then proposes a new Camshift Algorithm that performs better than the existing algorithm. The existing CamShift Algorithm shows unstable tracking when tracing similar colors in the background of objects. This drawback of the existing CamShift is resolved by using Kinect’s pixel-by-pixel depth information and the Skin Detection algorithm to extract candidate skin regions based on HSV color space. Additionally, even when the tracking object is not found, or when occlusion occurs, the feature point-based matching algorithm makes it robust to occlusion. By applying the improved CamShift algorithm to face tracking, the proposed real-time face tracking algorithm can be applied to various fields. The results from the experiment prove that the proposed algorithm is superior in tracking performance to that of existing TLD tracking algorithm, and offers faster processing speed. Also, while the proposed algorithm has a slower processing speed than CamShift, it overcomes all the existing shortfalls of the existing CamShift.
This paper proposes the real time lip reading method in the embedded environment. The embedded environment has the limited sources to use compared to existing PC environment, so it is hard to drive the lip reading system with existing PC environment in the embedded environment in real time. To solve the problem, this paper suggests detection methods of lip region, feature extraction of lips, and awareness methods of phonetic words suitable to the embedded environment. First, it detects the face region by using face color information to find out the accurate lip region and then detects the exact lip region by finding the position of both eyes from the detected face region and using the geometric relations. To detect strong features of lighting variables by the changing surroundings, histogram matching, lip folding, and RASTA filter were applied, and the properties extracted by using the principal component analysis(PCA) were used for recognition. The result of the test has shown the processing speed between 1.15 and 2.35 sec. according to vocalizations in the embedded environment of CPU 806Mhz, RAM 128MB specifications and obtained 77% of recognition as 139 among 180 words were recognized.
We present a robust face tracking system from the sequence of video images based on effective detector and Kalman filter. To construct the effective face detector, we extract the face features using the five types of simple Haar-like features. Extracted features are reinterpreted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and interpreted principal components are used for Support Vector Machine (SVM) that classifies the faces and non-faces. We trace the moving face with Kalman filter, which uses the static information of the detected faces and the dynamic information of changes between previous and current frames. To make a real-time tracking system, we reduce processing time by adjusting the frequency of face detection. In this experiment, the proposed system showed an average tracking rate of 95.5% and processed at 15 frames per second. This means the system is robust enough to track faces in real-time.
