  • This investigation presents an efficient method for identifying modal characteristics from the measured displacement, velocity and acceleration signals of multiple channels on structural systems. A Vector Backward Auto-Regressive model (VBAR) that describes the relationship between the output information in different time steps is used to establish a backward state equation. Generally, the accuracy of the identified dynamic characteristics can be improved by increasing the order of the Auto-Regressive model (AR) in cases of measurement of data under noisy circumstances. However, a higher-order AR model also induces more numerical modes, only some of which are the system modes. The proposed VBAR model provides a clear characteristic boundary to separate the system modes from the spurious modes. A numerical example of a lumped-mass model with three DOFs was established to verify the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method. Finally, an offshore platform model was experimentally employed as an application case to confirm the proposed VBAR method can be applied to real-world structures.

  • This paper presents a novel automatic white balance (AWB) algorithm for consumer imaging devices. While existing AWB methods require reference white patches to correct color, the proposed method performs the AWB function using only an input image in two steps: i) white point detection, and ii) color constancy gain computation. Based on the dark channel prior assumption, a white point or region can be accurately extracted, because the intensity of a sufficiently bright achromatic region is higher than that of other regions in all color channels. In order to finally correct the color, the proposed method computes color constancy gain values based on the Y component in the XYZ color space. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives better color-corrected images than recent existing methods. Moreover, the proposed method is suitable for real-time implementation, since it does not need a frame memory for iterative optimization. As a result, it can be applied to various consumer imaging devices, including mobile phone cameras, compact digital cameras, and computational cameras with coded color.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple scaling algorithm for CDMA mobile communications where a voice traffic signals are transmitted by individual one of several data rates at every frames. The traditional method is based on using look-up table called SMT(symbol metric table), but the proposed algorithm is real-time direct scaling method through simple bit manipulations without lookup table. The bit error rate performance is calculated by computer simulation over AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. From the results, it is shown that the proposed algorithm outperforms the traditional SMT method on Rayleigh channel by 0.3∼0.8dB, while achieving the less H/W complexity.

  • The CAN (Controller Area Network) system is the most dominant protocol for in-vehicle networking system because it provides bounded transmission delay among ECUs (Electronic Control Units) at data rates between 125Kbps and 1Mbps. And, many automotive companies have chosen the CAN protocol for their in-vehicle networking system such as chassis network system because of its excellent communication characteristics. However, the increasing number of ECUs and the need for more intelligent functions such as ADASs (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) or IVISs (In-Vehicle Information Systems) require a network with more network capacity and the real-time QoS (Quality-of-Service). As one approach to enhancing the network capacity of a CAN system, this paper introduces a CAN system with dual communication channel. And, this paper presents a distributed message allocation method that allocates messages to the more appropriate channel using forecast traffic of each channel. Finally, an experimental testbed using commercial off-the-shelf microcontrollers with two CAN protocol controllers was used to demonstrate the feasibility of the CAN system with dual communication channel using the distributed message allocation method.

  • This paper addresses the importance of knowledge management (KM) and the relationship of that theory when applied to improving interior design organizational performance in four areas: people, processes, design products, and organizational performance. Included is the way knowledge theory manifests in three different professional settings: coaching and training, designing, and service settings. Knowledge management, although well established in interior design services, requires effort in coaching and training as motivation is a critical variable. Whereas, strategies for knowledge management vary from industry to industry given diversity in situational variables, knowledge in each professional setting can be significantly aided by capturing and storing empirical, tacit, and explicit information, providing real-time electronic storage and retrieval of information [5] and consistent with transformational theory, through opening communication channels across the full range of the organization, inspiring and motivating individuals, and aligning all members of the organization toward a common vision [8]. Professional settings discussed in this paper are:(a)an learning organization enumerated in KM; (b)designing factors for managing knowledge theory themes; and (c)service, effective, efficient, and innovative KM application that is relevant to the process of developing effective KM for interior design service organizations. Folded within each will be a discussion on KM's impacts on visions, strategies, costs, and organizational performance. It has reiterated the impact of KM on one level might lead to synergistic impacts on another. Thus, KM has the potential to produce several interconnected impacts on people, design products, processes, and organizations.

  • The shock separation test simulates the environmental effects of the spacecraft separation from launch vehicle. The shock separation test for a structural model of KOMPSAT-Ⅱ(Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite Ⅱ) was performed in SITC(Satellite Integration & Test Center) launch environmental test hall at KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) to verify the shock test requirement of the spacecraft, to predict the induced acceleration responses on the primary structures and payloads by the explosion of pyre-lock and to perform mechanical fit check. The spacecraft with S/A was mated vertically to LV(Launch Vehicle) adapter simulator via a clamp band, then hoisted and suspended above a foam test bed by four isolation springs secured to the spacecraft hoist fittings to isolate the payload platform shock wave from the sling elements. For separation process, real pyre-devices were used and the time response signals from 60 accelerometers installed on the interested points was acquired and recorded. The SRS responses for each response channels were calculated and the achieved SRS's on the separation plane was reviewed and evaluated in comparison to the ICD(Interface Control Document) value.

  • In recent years, convolutional neural network (CNN) has become the primary method for face detection. But its shortcomings are obvious, such as expensive calculation, heavy model, etc. This makes CNN difficult to use on the mobile devices which have limited computing and storage capabilities. Therefore, the design of lightweight CNN for face detection is becoming more and more important with the popularity of smartphones and mobile Internet. Based on the CPU real-time face detector FaceBoxes, we propose a multi-task lightweight face detector, which has low computing cost and higher detection precision. First, to improve the detection capability, the squeeze and excitation modules are used to extract attention between channels. Then, the textual and semantic information are extracted by shallow networks and deep networks respectively to get rich features. Finally, the landmark detection module is used to improve the detection performance for small faces and provide landmark data for face alignment. Experiments on AFW, FDDB, PASCAL, and WIDER FACE datasets show that our algorithm has achieved significant improvement in the mean average precision. Especially, on the WIDER FACE hard validation set, our algorithm outperforms the mean average precision of FaceBoxes by 7.2%. For VGA-resolution images, the running speed of our algorithm can reach 23FPS on a CPU device.

  • Improving current pasture productivity by precision management requires practical tools to collect site specific pasture biomass data. Recent developments in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology provide cost effective and real time applications for site specific data collection. For the mapping of herbage biomass (BM) on a hill pasture, we tested a UAV system with digital cameras (visible and near-infrared (NIR) camera). The field measurements were conducted on the grazing hill pasture at Hanwoo Improvement Office, Seosan City, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Korea on May 17 and June 27, 2014. Plant samples were obtained from 28 sites. A UAV system was used to obtain aerial photos from a height of approximately 50 m (approximately 30 cm spatial resolution). Normalized digital number (DN) values of Red and NIR channels were extracted from the aerial photos and a normalized differential vegetation index using DN ($NDVI_{dn}$) was calculated. The results show that the correlation coefficient between BM and $NDVI_{dn}$ was 0.88. For the precision management of hilly grazing pastures, UAV monitoring systems can be a quick and cost effective tool to obtain site-specific herbage BM data.

  • In this dissertation, in the Turbo Code used for error correction coding of the recent digital communication systems, we propose a new S-R interleaver that has the better performance than the existing block interleaver, and the Turbo Decoder that has the parallel concatenated New structure using the MAP algorithm. For real-time voice and video services over the third generation mobile communications, the performance of two proposed methods is analyzed by the reduced decoding delay using the variable decoding method by computer simulation over multipath channels of DS-CDMA system. Also, a Modified NCMA based on conventional NCMA is proposed to improve the channel efficiency in the mobile communication system, and is investigated over the multi-user environment of DS-CDMA system through computer simulation.
