A number of reactivity devices are distributed in a CANDU-PHWR core to control the power distribution and excess reactivity. The effects of these devices are represented by incremental cross sections in core analysis. The incremental cross sections are generated by the SUPERCELL code using the two-group constant set calculated by the lattice code, WIMS. The incremental cross sections are then assessed for adjusters and zone controller by core simulation. Reactivity worth and channel powers are compared to the reference values. The deviation of reactivity worth and the maximum channel power are less than 0.97% and 0.6%, respectively, for the initial and equilibrium core.
The long terminal repeat (LTR) of retroviral DNA genome plays an important role in the integration process by providing substrate recognition site for viral integrase (IN). The dinucleotide CA near the 3'-end of the LTR termini is completely conserved among retoviruses. In order to study specificity of interaction between prototype foamy virus (PFV) IN and its U5 LTR DNA, the effect of mutagenesis of the CA sequence was investigated by studying reactivity of PFV IN to the mutant LTR substrates. Replacement of only the C or the A allowed 60 to 100% of the reactivity of the wild type LTR substrate. In addition, replacement of the C and the A showed 50 to 80% of the reactivity of the wild type LTR substrate, indicating that PFV IN has less specificity on the conserved CA sequence when it is compared to the other retroviral INs. Therefore it is suggested that PFV IN is less dependent on the conserved sequence of LTR termini for its enzymatic reaction.

Torrefaction is one of the methods to increase combustion calorific value and hydrophobicity of biomass. In this study, the effects of torrefaction on devolatilization, char reactivity and biomass structure were analyzed. Empty fruit bunch (EFB) and Kenaf biomass were used as fuels to be torrefied in the N2 environment at 200, 250 and $290^{\circ}C$. Devolatilization and char kinetics were analyzed by using TGA and biomass structure was investigated through petrography image. The reactivity showed different trends depending on the torrefaction temperature and biomass structure. The herbaceous biomass, Kenaf, was shown as high reactivity and thin wall structure. On the contrary, the woody biomass, EFB, had relatively low reactivity and thick wall structure.
The purpose of this study was to examine the bidirectional relationship between the negative emotionality of 0-to 3-year-old and maternal parenting styles, focusing on warmth and reactivity. Four waves of panel data from the Korean Children Panel Study(KCPS) were analyzed in this study by means of autoregressive cross-lagged modeling. The results of this study were as follows. First, negative emotionality and maternal parenting styles were consistently stable for 0-to 3-year-old. Second, a bidirectional relationship between negative emotionality and maternal warmth parenting styles was confirmed according to the appearance of both parent and child effects. In other words, higher levels of negative emotionality was associated with lower maternal warmth parenting styles across time and in both directions. Additionally, the relationship between negative emotionality and maternal reactivity parenting styles were partially identified as being bidirectional in nature, whilst also being related to age. These findings suggested that parent education aimed at strengthening parenting skills, and programs designed to relieve negative emotionality of 0-to 3-year-olds are clearly needed.

Catalytic filters consisting of Ni nanoparticle and carbon fiber with different oxidation states of Ni (either metallic or oxidic) were prepared using a chemical vapor deposition process and various post-annealing steps. CO oxidation reactivity of each sample was evaluated using a batch type quartz reactor with a gas mixture of CO (500 mtorr) and $O_2$ (3 torr) at $300^{\circ}C$. Metallic and oxidic Ni showed almost the same CO oxidation reactivity. Moreover, the CO oxidation reactivity of metallic sample remained unchanged in the subsequently performed second reaction experiment. We suggested that metallic Ni transformed into oxidic state at the initial stage of the exposure to the reactant gas mixture, and Ni-oxide was catalytically active species. In addition, we found that CO oxidation reactivity of Ni-oxide surface was enhanced by increase in the $H_2O$ impurity in the reactor.

Effects of pressure, temperature, gas velocity, and fuel flow rate on reduction of three oxygen carriers, SDN70, OC-1, OC-2, were measured and investigated in a pressurized bubbling fluidized bed reactor. Among three oxygen carriers OC-2 was selected as the best oxygen carrier in view of fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity. However, all oxygen carriers showed good reactivity even at high pressure conditions. SDN70 particle showed maximum reactivity at $900^{\circ}C$ and low reactivity at $950^{\circ}C$. However, reactivity decay of OC-1 and OC-2 particles at high temperature condition was negligible. The fuel conversion and the $CO_2$ selectivity slightly decreased as the gas velocity increased, whereas they are slightly increased as the fuel concentration increased.
The alkali-activation reaction of two types of typical kaolin calcined at various lower temperatures was investigated at room temperature and at elevated temperatures. For the assessment of the reactivity, the temperature increase and the setting time of pastes prepared with calcined kaolin and sodium/potassium hydroxide solution were measured. Unlike raw kaolin, calcined kaolin samples prepared at various temperature showed an alkali-activation reaction according to the different aspects of the changes in the mineral phases. The reactivity with alkaline solutions was exceedingly activated in the samples calcined at $600-650^{\circ}C$, but the reactivity gradually decreased as the temperature increased in a higher temperature range, most likely due to the changes in the crystal structure of the dehydrated kaolin. The activation effect of the calcination treatment was achieved at reaction temperatures that exceeded $60^{\circ}C$ and was enhanced as the temperature increased. The reactivity of the calcined kaolin with an alkaline solution was more enhanced with the solution of a higher concentration and with a solution prepared from sodium hydroxide rather than potassium hydroxide.
Second-order rate constants have been determined spectrophotometrically for reactions of S-p-nitrophenyl substituted thiobenzoates with various phenoxide ions and S-aryl substituted thiobenzoates with $HO^-$ ion. Thiol esters have been found to be more reactive than the corresponding oxygen esters toward phenoxide ions. The high reactivity of thiol esters relative to oxygen esters becomes insignificant as the basicity of the nucleophile increases. Furthermore, the highly basic $HO^-$ ion is less reactive toward thiol esters than oxygen esters. The significant dependence of the reactivity of thiol esters on the basicity of nucleophiles has been attributed to the nature of the HSAB principle. The present kinetic study has also revealed that the reactivity of thiol esters compared to oxygen esters is not so pronounced as expected based on the enhanced nucleofugicity of thiol esters. However, the effects of substituents in the nucleophile and in the acyl moiety of the substrate on rate appear to be significant. These kinetic results have led to a conclusion that the present reactions proceed via a rate-determining formation of a tetrahedral intermediate followed by a fast breakdown of it. The magnitude of the ${\beta}$ values shows no tendency either to increase or to decrease with the intrinsic reactivity of the reagents. The constancy of ${\beta}$ values in the present system is suggestive that the RSP should have limited applicability.
Semiempirical PM3 MO calculations are applied to estimate both 1-atom (X=S,O,C) and 3-substituent (Y=R, CH2R, SR, CH2SR) effects on the reactions of some 1-atom-replaced and 3-substituted cephem-like β-lactam compounds of thiacephems, oxacephems, and carbacephems. Stabilization energy (SE) of the reaction intermediate for the reaction with a hydroxyl ion can be used to evaluate the facility of a reaction and selected as a chemical reactivity index. With the 1-atom effect only, the SE values obtained imply that thiacephems are generally more reactive than the other two cephem-like molecules and the reactivity order is thiacephems>oxacephems>carbacephems. When it comes to the 3-substituent (Y=R, CH2R, SR, CH2SR) effect, chemical reactivity can be best realized by using a 3-substituted thiacephem molecule capable of giving a resonance-stabilized and electron-rich leaving group after the reaction with a nucleophile. SE values, however, decrease in most cases when an additional intervening ethylene group is present (Y=CH2R, CH2SR). The overall 3-substituent reactivity tendency is SR>CH2SR>R>CH2R.
The effectiveness of mineral additives in suppressing alkali-silica reactivity has been studied in this work. Experimentation has been performed in accordance with the procedures prescribed in ASTM C 1567. In the scope of the investigation, a quarry aggregate which was reactive according to ASTM C 1260 was tested. In the experimental program, prismatic mortar specimens measuring $25{\times}25{\times}285mm$ were produced. Ten sets of production, three specimens for each set, were made. Length changes were measured at the end of 3, 7, 14 and 28 days and then expansions in percentage have been calculated. Fly ash, silica fume, and metakaolin have been used as cement replacement in different ratios for the testing of the alkali-silicate reactivity of the aggregate. In the mixes performed, the replacement ratios were 20%, 40%, and 60% for the fly ash, and 5%, 10%, and 15% for the silica fume, and 5%, 10%, and 15% for the metakaolin. Mixes without mineral additives were also produced for comparison. The beneficial effect in suppressing alkali-silica reactivity is highly noticeable as the replacement ratios of the mineral additives increase regardless of the type of the mineral additive used. Being more concise, the optimum concentrations of using silica fume and metakaolin in mortar in suppressing ASR is 10%, respectively, while it is 20% for fly ash.
