  • Five temporarily solubilized reactive disperse dyes were synthesized and characterized. They were applied to polyester/cotton blend fabric using one-bath dyeing method without dispersing agent. The dye that has azonaphthalene chro-mophore seemed to not only be exhausted on polyester but also react with cotton. But other dyes were selectively dyed on polyester and showed limited uptake on cotton. Good levelling as well as moderate to good colour fastness was obtained with the dyes on P/C blend fabric.

  • A number of studies have been introduced on the use of quaternary cationic agents having various reactive groups, which can improve the substantivity of anionic dyes, specially direct dyes, towards cotton. In the case of direct dyes, it is well known that they are widely used due to their convenience to apply and low cost, whilst they display poor levels of fastness properties to washing. Thus many applications using direct dyes in the textile fields have been still enjoyed in the areas where a higher level of wet fastness is specially not required. This work herein comprises that in order to improve the substantivity of direct dyes towards cotton, cellulose-reactive allylamine polymer namely, triazinyl N,N′-dimethyl-N,N′-diallyl ammonium chloride was prepared and treated onto cotton to provide cationic properties within substrates. This application showed that even low concentration of electrolytes being present, the direct dyes were exhausted well on the cationized cotton and that the rate of dye uptake by treated cotton was faster than that of untreated sample. Furthermore the antimicrobial properties were observed from the cationized samples.

  • The hydrolyses of ten VS dyes were examined at 40$^{\circ}C$, 50$^{\circ}C$, and 60$^{\circ}C$ and the kinetic parameters were estimated. The values of free energy, enthalpy and entropy of hydrolysis and reaction with cellulose for VS dyes were calculated. The linear relationship exist between the enthalpy and entropy. The structure and entropy of VS dyes gave a effect on the dimerization for VS reactive dyes. The VS dyes have small value of entropy were formed dimer. It was confirmed that no dimer form for m-substituted VS dyes. There were similarities among various reactions including homo- and mixed dimerization.

  • In order to study the dyeability of reactive dyes fixable at neutral pH, three reactive dyes(DYE-NC, DYE-PC, and DYE-LC) were prepared by the reaction of Cibacron Brilliant Red 3B-A with nicotinic acid, pyridine, and lutidine, respectively. FT-IR and UV/Vis spectrophometry were used to identify the dyes prepared. While the maximum absorption wavelength (&{\lambda}_{max}&) of Cibacron Brilliant Red 3B-A was 515nm, the &{\lambda}_{max}& of DYE-NC, DYE-PC, and DYE-LC were 522nm, 525nm, and 536nm, respectively. The &{\lambda}_{max}& was shifted to the longer wavelength by introducing the electron donating groups to the pyridine ring of Cibacron Brilliant Red 3B-A. All of the reactive dyes synthesized showed good exhaustion and fixation property to cotton fabric at higher temperature and neutral pH condition. It was regarded that the quaternary pyridinium ion functionated as the leaving group instead of the chloride ion. Among them, DYE-NC showed the best dyeability at the above condition. It was considered that the electron withdrawing carboxylic acid group in nicotinic acid enhanced the cationic property of nitrogn in pyridine ring, resulting the good reactivity with OH group in cellulose.

  • The influence of four types of reactive dyes that are different in reactive group on silk fabric were investigated at three different temperatures, 5$0^{\circ}C$, 7$0^{\circ}C$, 9$0^{\circ}C$ and the pH range from 7.0 to 11.0. The amount of absorption and fixation showed the optimum condition. The damage of silk during dyeing was determined by the change of physical properties. The results are given as follows: 1. The amount of dye fixed on fabrics at constant pH varied upon the reactivity of dyes. The affinity of dyes for silk fabrics were in order of Lanasol>Procion>Remazol>Cibacron. 2. The percentage of dye fixation on fabrics showed different tendency with temperature. The dye fixation of Cibacron and Procion was decreased above 7$0^{\circ}C$ because of the influence of hydrolysis. The dye fixation of Lanasol and Remazol was increased with the increase of temperature. This showed that temperature did not affect on hydrolysis. 3. The tensile strength of dyed fabric decreased with increasing pH and temperature owing to high temperature and alkaline damage on silk fabric. 4. The optimum conditions of dyeing silk with reactive dyes were as follows: Cibacron -7$0^{\circ}C$, pH 9.0, Procion-5$0^{\circ}C$, pH 7.0, Remazol-5$0^{\circ}C$, pH 8.0, and Lanasol-9$0^{\circ}C$, pH 9.0.

  • Use of processed timber can help reduce environmental damage and the economic burden of resources (important problems with use of raw timber) and can meet the needs of various fields where the sensibility of raw timber is required. Veneer wood is positioned as a high-value-added product due to its luxury and beauty, and it is used in various fields as a building-related material, such as interior decoration, furniture, flooring, building interior materials, and lumber. Dyeing is necessary to enhance the aesthetic appearance of this pattern and to expand its use. Therefore, in this study, we compared and analyzed the dye ability of oak-patterned materials with reactive dyes, and evaluated their performance as interior materials. As a result, the oak pattern was dyed with 9 kinds of reactive dyes and a comparative analysis was performed. The most suitable conditions are 50℃, 2 hours, and 0.5% o.w.f. In addition, evaluating resilience to daylight, resilience to rubbing, fire resistance, and flame retardance, yielded results suitable for use as an interior material. In this study, the dyeability of veneer dyed under various conditions using reactive dyes was compared and analyzed the performance as an interior material was evaluated.

  • The study has attempted to compare the behavior of reactive, disperse and acid dyes when wastewater from these three kinds of typical dyestuffs were treated by chemical coagulation and NF membrane in pilot scale. Disperse dyeing wastewater showed the tendency of easier removal in TOC and COD and especially in color. This is probably due to low water-solubility of disperse dyes compared with reactive and acid dyes and is a positive result in terms of water reuse. Bio-kinetic constants, ${\mu}$max, $K_s$ of reactive, disperse and acid dyes were obtained, implying that their biodegradability are not significantly different.

  • A Klebsiella pneumoniae WL-5 with the capability of decolorizing several recalcitrant dyes was isolated from activated sludge of an effluent treatment plant of a textile and dyeing industry. This strain showed a higher dye decolorization under static condition and color removal was optimal at pH 6-8 and $30-35^{\circ}C$. More than 90% of its color of Congo Red were reduced within 12 hr at $200\;{\mu}M$ dye concentration. Malachite Green, Brilliant Green and Reactive Black-5 lost over 85% of their colors at $10\;{\mu}M$ dye concentration, but the percentage decolorization of Reactive Red-120, Reactive Orange-16, and Crystal Violet were about 46%, 25%, and 13%, respectively. Decolorizations of Congo Red and triphenylmethane dyes, such as Malachite Green, Brilliant Green, and Crystal Violet were mainly due to adsorption to cells, whereas azo dyes, such as Reactive Black-5, Reactive Red-120, and Reactive Orange-16 seemed to be removed by biodegradation through unknown enzymatic processes.

  • In this study, we constructed a database of dyeing concentrations of all reactive dyes used for dyeing linen according to the thickness of the linen fabric and attempted to improve the reproducibility of the dyeing process for the commercialization of linen fabric materials. Linen fabric is a natural cellulose material that is comfortable and suitable for eco-friendly trends. It is a typical summer material with excellent breathability and thermal conductivity, quick moisture absorption and dissipation, and a cool touch. Dyeability and fastness were evaluated depending on the thickness of the linen fabric using a monochlorotriazine (MCT) reactive dye and bifunctional yellow, red, and blue dyes. All three colors of the MCT reactive dye and bifunctional dyes exhibited a darker shade as the fiber thickness of the marker increased. Fastness to washing was excellent at grades 4-5 or higher, regardless of the color of the dye and the number of linen fabrics. Although some color-fastness differences were noted, with the color change occurring most frequently with blue color, the fastness variations with dye type were mostly similar. The results of this study are expected to facilitate the selection of reactive dyes according to the thickness of the linen fabric based on the basic data from the laboratory, which will aid in the mass production of linen fabric and benefit the fashion industry.
