  • Objectives: The root and stem of Sinomenium acutum has been used for treatment of arthritis and neuralgia in oriental medicine. To find new substances of the anti-anaphylactic drugs, we studied Sinomenium acutum. Methods: To investigate the effect of this plant, the effect on anaphylactic reaction, plasma histamine level, and tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}-(TNF-{\alpha})$ production were measured after the aqueous extract of Sinomenium acutum stem (SSAE) was administrated to mice and rats. Results: The SSAE (0.1 to 1000 mg/kg) dose-dependently inhibited systemic anaphylactic reaction induced by compound 48/80 in mice. Especially, SSAE reduced compound 48/80-induced anaphylactic reaction with 50% at the dose of 1000 mg/kg. SSAE (100 to 1000 mg/kg) also significantly inhibited local anaphylactic reaction activated by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP) IgE. When mice were pretreated with SSAE at a concentration ranging from 0.1 to 1000 mg/kg, the plasma histamine levels were reduced in a dose-dependent manner. SSAE (1 to 1000 g/ml) dose-dependently inhibited histamine release from the rat peritoneal mast cells (RPMCs) activated by compound 48/80 or anti-DNP IgE. The level of cAMP in RPMCs, when SSAE was added, increased compared with that of a normal control. In addition, SSAE (0.1 g/ml) had a significant inhibitory effect on anti-DNP IgE-induced $TNF-{\alpha}$ production. Conclusions: These results indicate that SSAE inhibits mast cell-mediated anaphylactic reactions and $TNF-{\alpha}$ production from mast cells.

  • The aim of this study was to develop and validate measures of a mother's reaction to children's negative emotions. After construct factors of a mother's reaction to children's negative emotions based on the theoretical basis and existing scales were explored, the first preliminary items were extracted. After the content validity was confirmed by expert opinions, the second preliminary items were composed, and the initial survey was carried out. Using exploratory factor analysis, three principal factors and 21 items were revealed to be most suitable. The factors of the scale consist of emotion-coaching-reactions, oversensitive reactions, and emotion-minimizing-reactions, respectively. In addition, the reliability analysis and validation analysis of the scale was conducted, by means of surveying 413 elementary students. The internal coherence reliability and test-retest reliability were verified as was the general internal coherence and timing stability of the scale. There were three additional verifications to validate the scale. (1)For the evidence based on internal structure, the confirmatory factor analysis and convergent-discriminant evidence; this resulted in confirming the factor structure of the scale as being reliable. (2)In order to understand the relationships to other variables, the correlation analysis came in effect to the overall scale and each of its sub-factors, showing that they are significantly correlated with the scale of the child's perception on rearing attitudes of the mother. (3)As for evidence based on the consequences of the test, the correlation analysis produced a result showed that sub-factors of the scale have as significant correlation with the child's emotional intelligence and resilience.

  • The mast cell-mediated immediate-type allergic reaction is involved in many allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis. The discovery of drugs for the treatment of mast cell-mediated immediate-type allergic diseases is a very important subject in human health. In this study, we investigated the effect of small black soybean (Glycine max Merr.) (Leguminosae) on mast cell-mediated allergic reaction and pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion. Small black soybean (SBS) inhibited compound 48/80-induced systemic reaction. SBS attenuated immunoglobulin (Ig) E-mediated local allergic reaction. In addition, SBS decreased the phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate plus calcium ionophore A23187-stimulated tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$ and interleukin (IL)-8 secretion in human mast cells. These results indicate that SBS may be beneficial in the treatment of mast cell-mediated immediate-type allergic reactions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether types of sensory-stimuli cues in terms of visual, auditory, and visuoauditory cues can be affected to motor sequential learning in healthy adults, using serial reaction time task. Methods: Twenty four healthy subjects participated in this study, who were randomly allocated into three groups, in terms of visual-stimuli (VS) group, auditory-stimuli (AS) group, and visuoauditory-stimuli (VAS) group. In SRT task, eight Arabic numbers were adopted as presentational stimulus, which were composed of three different types of presentational modules, in terms of visual, auditory, and visuoauditory stimuli. On an experiment, all subjects performed total 3 sessions relevant to each stimulus module with a pause of 10 minutes for training and pre-/post-tests. At the pre- and post-tests, reaction time and accuracy were calculated. Results: In reaction time, significant differences were founded in terms of between-subjects, within-subjects, and interaction effect for group ${\times}$ repeated factor. In accuracy, no significant differences were observed in between-group and interaction effect for groups ${\times}$ repeated factor. However, a significant main effect of within-subjects was observed. In addition, a significant difference was showed in comparison of differences of changes between the pre- and post-test only in the reaction time among three groups. Conclusion: This study suggest that short-term sequential motor training on one day induced behavioral modification, such as speed and accuracy of motor response. In addition, we found that motor training using visual-stimuli cue showed better effect of motor skill acquisition, compared to auditory and visuoauditory-stimuli cues.

  • Browning intensity is a major factor to estimate the quality of red ginseng or red ginseng products. The Maillard type of browning reaction proceeds nonenzymatically during extraction and concentration of red ginseng. The present studies were carried out to investigate the effects of amino acids and sugars on the browning reaction during extraction and concentration of red ginseng. Red ginseng was pulverized to 115 mesh and then tenfold (v/w) of water was added to the powder to make the substrate of red ginseng. Solution (0.1 M) of fourteen amino acids and of folly silgars were added to the substrates of red ginseng powder and these were then extracted and concentrated to examine their browning intensities. Amino acids were more effective than sligars in acrelerating the browning reaction. Acceleration of the browning reaction in the concentrate was in the order of arginine> histidine>glycine>alanine>lysine phenyl alanine>aspartic acid>lelicine>threonine>gllitamic acid>tyrosine>valine>istleucine>methionine for amino acids, and was glucose>frlictose >silcrose, maltose for sugars.

  • This study deals with human reaction speed according to human physical conditions (body size) such as head width, thickness, breast width, arm extent, and age. Especially, the results of this study are compared between young and old generation. According to this study, the thickness and extent factor do not have any correlation with human reaction speed, but width factors(head width, breast width, etc) have some correlation with human reaction speed. The result of this study can be used to find fitter person for a special job such as emergency condition job, sports man (because you can find a person having a good talent for it without test). Also, the purpose of this study is to find CNT (Channel Noise Time). The word of CNT is to explain the relation between Channel Noise and working speed. (Channel Noise is a kind of noise happening between the human information transmission channel.)

  • Thermal Characteristics and kinetic parameters of $LaMnO_3$ synthesis reaction were investigated by means of TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis) at non-isothermal heating conditions (5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0 K/min). The reaction was occurred rapidly at 450~600K (X=0.4~0.7) depending on the heating rate. Activation energy for the synthesis of $LaMnO_3$ from the precursor, which was determined by different method such as Friedman, Ozawa-Flynn-Wall and Vyazovkin methods, was in the range of 23~243 kJ/g-mol depending on the fractional conversion level and estimation method. The reaction order decreased with increasing heating rate and fractional conversional level. The average reaction order was 4.50 in case of X=0.1~0.3, while it was 1.87 in case of X=0.7~0.9, respectively. The value of frequency factor of reaction rate increased with inceasing heating rate and fractional conversion level. The aveage value of frequency factor was 205.6 ($min^{-1}$) when X=0.1~0.3, while it was 475.2 ($min^{-1}$) when X=0.7~0.9, respectively.

  • The studies on the formulation and curing behaviors of Kevlar/Epoxy prepreg for NOSE CONE of aircraft were presented in this paper. Dielectrometer and differential scanning calorimeter were used in order to check the curing behaviors. This prepreg showed the lowest ionic viscosity around $120^{\circ}C$, and then the ionic viscosity was gradually increased up to $200^{\circ}C$. This indicated that the curing reaction of this prepreg started at $120^{\circ}C$ and the molecular weight was increased by the accelerated thermal cross-linking reaction. The loss factor and tan $\delta$ values were also measured and discussed. The loss factor behaviors of Kevlar/Epoxy prepreg, which is related to the fluidity of matrix, were fecund to be similar with that of ionic viscosity. The thermal reaction properties of this prepreg were also studied by differential scanning calorimeter.

  • Polyester microfiber fabrics were decomposed at 100, 110, and 12$0^{\circ}C$ in saturated CaO/ethylene glycol solutions(CaO/EG), and the characteristics of decomposition kinetics were discussed in comparison to those by hot aqueous hydroxide solution(NaOH). The Arrhenius pre-exponential factor(A) was 9.17x $10^{14}$/M $sec^{-1}$and the activation energy($E_{a}$) was 8.19kcal/mol. While the A value was 1.947x $10^{14}$/M $sec^{-1}$ and the ($E_{a}$ value was about 15~19kcal/mol in NaOH-PET decomposition reaction. The much higher A value of the CaO/EG-PET decomposition reaction means that CaO/EG-PET decomposition reaction will occur in a less selective fashion in comparison to the NaOH-PET decomposition reaction. On the other hand, the lower ($E_{a}$) value of the CaO/EG-PET decomposition reaction than that of the NaOH-PET decomposition reaction means that CaO/EG-PET decomposition reaction is less sensitive on the variation of temperature than NaOH-PET decomposition reaction.
