Objectives In this study, the possibility of using existing test data provided in Korea and elsewhere for the registration of chemical substances was examined. Data on 510 chemical substances that are among the first subject to registration under the "Act on the Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemical Substances (K-REACH)" were analyzed. Methods The possibility of using existing data from 16 reference databases was examined for 510 chemical substances notified in July 2015 as being subject to registration. Results Test data with the reliability required for the registration of chemical substances under the K-REACH constituted 48.4% of the required physicochemical characteristics, 6.5% of the required health hazards, and 9.4% of the required environmental hazards. Conclusions Some existing test data were not within the scope of this research, including data used for registration in the European Union (EU). Thus, considering that 350 of these 510 species are registered in EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & Restriction of Chemicals, more test data may exist that can be utilized in addition to the data identified in this study. Furthermore, the K-REACH states that non-testing data (test results predicted through Read Across, Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships) and the weight of evidence (test results predicted based on test data with low reliability) can also be utilized for registration data. Therefore, if methods for using such data were actively reviewed, it would be possible to reduce the cost of securing test data required for the registration of chemical substances.
Hydraulic and hydrological flood routing methods are commonly used to analyze temporal and spatial flood influences of flood wave through a river reach. Hydrological flood routing method has relatively more simple and reasonable performance accuracy compared to the hydraulic method. Storage constant used in Muskingum method widely applied in hydrological flood routing is very similar to the travel time. Focusing on this point, in this study, we estimate the travel time from HEC-RAS results to estimate storage constant, and develop a non-linear regression equation for the travel time using reach length, channel slope, and discharge. The estimated flow by Muskingum model with storage constant of nonlinear equation is compared with the flow calculated by applying the HEC-RAS 1-D unsteady flow simulation. In addition, this study examines the effect on the weighting factor changes and interval reach divisions; peak discharge increases with the bigger weighting factor, and RMSE decreases with the fragmented division.
A new method to extract gold from pyrite roster cinder, which combines ultra-fine-grinding with resin-in-pulp, has been studied in this paper. Compared with traditional leaching technology, it can short leaching time, avoid complex filter process, lower sodium cyanide consumption and increase gold recovery by 35%. During leaching, aluminium oxide ball was used as stirred medium, hydrogen peroxide as leaching aid and sodium hexametaphosphate as grinding aid. With the high efficiency and chemistry effect of ultra-fine-grinding, the leaching process was developed and the gold leaching rate may reach 88%. With AM-2 Б resin as abosorber and sulfocarbamide (TU) as eluent, gold was recovered from cyanide pulp by resin-in-pulp. AM-2 Б resin has good adsorbability in cyanide solution(pH=10). It was easy to elude gold from the loaded resin with 0.1㏖/L cholhydric acid and 1㏖/L sulfocabamide. The effect of contact time, temperature and acidity etc. on the gold absorption had been examined with static methods. The results showed that the adsorption and desorption of gold could both reach over 98%. The effects of flow rate of solution on dynamic adsorption and elution of gold had been examined with dynamic methods. Breakthrough curve and elution curve had been drawn in this paper. A mild condition was determined through a number of experiments: leaching time 2 hours, liquid solid ratio 4:1, sodium cyanide 3kg/t, hydrogen peroxide 0.05%, sodium hexametaphosphate 0.05%; adsorption time 30 minutes, temperature 10-3$0^{\circ}C$, resin($m\ell$) solid(g) ratio 1:10, eluent resin ratio 10-20:1, velocity of eluent $1.5m\ell$/min. Under the mild condition, the gold recovery may reach 85%.
The environmental quality of the middle-reach of the Yahagi River has deteriorated in recent years. The nutrient dynamics within the reach were investigated to explain the changes. Seasonal pattern of $NO_3\;^--N$ concentration tended to stay low from April or May through July or August and then increased till winter or early spring, although there were peaks during high flow periods in mid-September, 2000 and late-August, 2001. No clear seasonal changes were observed in $PO_4\;^{3-}-P$ concentration. In the bimonthly records from 1980-2002, the DIN concentrations on January and March were higher than other months whereas the average daily flows on January and March were lower than they were in other months. The mean DIN concentration showed a high negative correlation with the median of average daily flow. In the past 50 years, the average concentration of DIN (excluding nitrite) was 0.21 mg $L^{-1}$ in 1952-1953. The concentration was about twice this high around 1980, and it is about three times this high at present. On the other hand, the average concentration of $PO_4\;^{3-}-P$ was below the limit of detection in 1952-53. However, it increased to almost 0.03 mg $L^{-1}$ around 1980, then decreased to approximately 0.016mg $L^{-1}$ at present. Our results suggest that the increasing DIN concentration is one of the causes of environmental change in the Yahagi River. We conclude that controlling the DIN concentration is essential for improving the river environment.

The purpose of Total Pollution Load Control at Tributary is to obtain maximum improvement effect of water quality through finding the most impaired section of water-body and establishing the proper control measure of pollutant load. This study was implemented to determine the optimal management of reach, period, condition, watershed, and pollution source and propose appropriate reduction practices using the Load duration curve (LDC) and field monitoring data. With the data of measurement, LDC analysis shows that the most impaired condition is reach V (G4~G5), E group (flow exceedance percentile 90~100%) and winter season. For this reason, winter season and low flow condition should be preferentially considered to restore water quality. The result of pollution analysis for the priority reach and period shows that agricultural nonpoint source loads from onion and garlic culture are most polluting. Therefore, it is concluded that agricultural reuse of surface effluent (storm-water runoff with non-point sources) and low impact farming that includes reducing fertilization and controlling the height of drainage outlet are efficient water quality management for this study watershed.
A multiply-connected network unsteady flow model for the main reach of the Han River is developed. It is a variable parameter model which allows variable roughness coefficient for each computational point according to the spatial position and the value of discharge. Sensitivities of the model to roughness coefficient and weir-flow discharge coefficient are tested, and as a result Manning's roughness coefficient is selected as the calibration parameter. The model is calibrated and verified using the records of the past flood events. A modified Gauss-Newton method is used for the optimal calibration of roughness coefficients. From the calibration of variable parameter model, spatial variation and discharge dependence of Manning's roughness coefficient are identified. That is, the roughness coefficient is higher for the upstream reach of the Wangsook stream Junction, and it decreases as the discharge increases. It turns out through the verification that the stages calculated by the variable parameter model agree better with the observed than those by the conventional single parameter model. Spatial variation of the roughness coefficient appears to be more significant than the dependence of the discharge.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to evaluate the accuracy and precision of exposure model ECETOC TRA v.3.1 by comparing model predictions with repeated exposure measurements in Korean workplaces and to investigate the applicability of ECETOC TRA to Korean workplace exposure assessment in K-REACH. Methods: Measured values and work conditions for 14 kinds of chemicals collected from exposure field surveys conducted at 10 companies in Korea were utilized for this study. All possible process categories (PROCs) considered to be relevant to each work process classification were selected and applied to ECETOC TRA as major determining parameters. In order to quantify the accuracy of the model, the lack of agreement (bias, relative bias, precision) was calculated and the risk ratios for each exposure situation between estimated and measured were also compared. Results: The estimated values varied between five and 25 times according to the PROCs for all exposure situations (ESs) based on tasks/chemicals. The results showed that most of the estimated values were below the measured values, and just 13 of 53 tasks were above the measured values. The overall bias and precision were $-2.91{\pm}1.62$ with ECETOC TRA, and we found that ECETOC TRA showed a low level of conservatism when applied to Korean workplaces, similar to previous studies. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that the existed PROC codes have limitations in fully covering various ESs in Korea. In order to improve the applicability of ECETOC TRA in K-REACH, the addition of new PROCs for Korean industries are necessary.

The objectives of this study were to assess physical habitat suitability of fish species for different life cycle stages and to suggest appropriate ecological stream flows in a Bokha downstream reach. A dominant species of Zacco platypus was selected as the study fish of which three stages of spawning, juvenile and adult in life cycle were considered into assessment. The stream hydraulic environment was calibrated with HEC-RAS before the PHABSIM simulation. The hydraulics of flow velocity and depth were used to estimate Weighted Usable Area (WUA) by multiplying respective habitat suitability indices with stream area. Overall the WUAs tend to be great in gentle slopes with relatively shallow water depth regions. Maximum WUAs, ie, candidate for ecological flow rates were 1 m3/s, 7 m3/s and 8 m3/s for the respective spawning, juvenile and adult stages of Zacco platypus. Since the ecological flow rates for juvenile and adult stages appeared to be is greater than the abundant flow rate (3.67 m3/s) for the study reach, additional water supply may be needed but should be cautious to avoid the spawning period of Apr through May from the stream water management perspective.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) serve as secondary messengers that regulate various developmental and signal transduction processes, with ROS primarily generated by NADPH OXIDASEs (referred to as RESPIRATORY BURST OXIDASE HOMOLOGs [RBOHs] in plants). However, the types and locations of ROS produced by RBOHs are different from those expected to mediate intracellular signaling. RBOHs produce O2•- rather than H2O2 which is relatively long-lived and able to diffuse through membranes, and this production occurs outside the cell instead of in the cytoplasm, where signaling cascades occur. A widely accepted model explaining this discrepancy proposes that RBOH-produced extracellular O2•- is converted to H2O2 by superoxide dismutase and then imported by aquaporins to reach its cytoplasmic targets. However, this model does not explain how the specificity of ROS targeting is ensured while minimizing unnecessary damage during the bulk translocation of extracellular ROS (eROS). An increasing number of studies have provided clues about eROS action mechanisms, revealing various mechanisms for eROS perception in the apoplast, crosstalk between eROS and reactive nitrogen species, and the contribution of intracellular organelles to cytoplasmic ROS bursts. In this review, we summarize these recent advances, highlight the mechanisms underlying eROS action, and provide an overview of the routes by which eROS-induced changes reach the intracellular space.
This paper attempts to review of recent development of ASEAN financial integration and to evaluate it and predict its future aspect. For this purpose, we first examine the historic aspect of ASEAN financial integration such as ASEAN financial service open agreement or ASEAN capital market forum report and currently agreed integration plan. In addition, we study the development stages of ASEAM member countries in terms of its economic size or income level. Finally, we look at the financial market and institutional aspect of ASEAN member countries and the recent development of global financial market. From these analyses, we find several important facts. First, it is true that ASEAN, in general, will enjoy the effect of expanding regional investment and improving the quality of financial service through the financial integration. We think that its long term benefit is too large for ASEAN member states to avoid. Second, as a result, it is certain that ASEAN will corporate further to make its financial market to be integrated in the future. Third, however, despite these benefits and continuing efforts, we expect that it will be very difficult for ASEAN to reach a stage of financial integration as suggested in the Blueprint of ASEAN Economic Community by the year of 2015. The large difference among member states in term of economic and financial development will not allow for them to reach a single goal within a short time. Instead, we expect the following scenario for the integration process will hold. First, ASEAN will reach an agreement on the institutional framework by 2015 and afterwards, slowly the markets will begin to integrate. Second, at the earlier stage, not all but some countries will start the integration process. We expect that the financial market of ASEAN 5 will first be integrated and other 5 will join to it later.
