  • The main objectives of this study are to calibrate the RICEWQ model with Korean field data and then analyse the sensitivity of the parameters to identify sensitive parameters. The RICEWQ is widely used to predict pesticide fate in a paddy plot. An experimental paddy plot of 0.2 ha($100{\times}20\;m$) at Seobyeon-dong, Daegu, Korea was selected, and field observations for water and pesticide balance were performed from 4 June to 2 September 2006. The molinate, which is a herbicide widely used for weed control in rice culture, was selected. The RICEWQ model was successfully calibrated both for the water and pesticide mass balance. The calibrated model showed a RMSE of 0.537 cm for ponded water depths and a RMSE of 0.036 mg/L for the molinate concentrations in the ponded water. The most sensitive parameters for molinate concentrations in ponded water were the metabolism degradation rate in water, volatilization coefficient, and release rate for slow release formulation. In contrast, the RICEWQ model was not sensitive to parameters such as hydrolysis degradation rate in water and degradation rate in unsaturated soil.

  • In this study, the strain rate effects are considered in the formulation by introducing the constitutive equation of the strain rate sensitive materials and rigid-viscoplastic finite element program is developed for axisymmtric extrusion. The effect of strain rate sensitivity on the flow characteristics and forming pressure are investigated and the experiments are carried out for extrusion with pure lead specimens. The theoretically predicted forming pressure showed reasonably good agreement with the experimental values.

  • The dynamic material characteristics on some mild steel sheets were observed. The dynamic tests were conducted on the ESH servo-hydraulic test machine. It was observed that the mechanical properties of mild steel are highly sensitive to the value of strain rate. The well known Cowper-Symonds constitutive equation was used to generalize the strain rate sensitivity effect. Modified constitutive equations were suggested to couple the strain hardening to the strain rate sensitivity. The dynamic stress-strain relationships for the mild steel sheets used in the present study were reasonably predicted using these modified constitutive equations.

  • This paper is to predict quality deterioration resulting from a caulking process of yoke which is a part of automotive steering system. The caluking is a plastic deformation process involving such as impact of high speed tool, contacts between part and fixtures and strain rate sensitivity of the part material. Elaborate application of finite element method is neccesary to calculate changes of part dimensions because they fall into a level of tolerances. Simple work hardening and strain rate sensitive model is proposed fur the material and applied for the simulation by using Abaqus which is able to cater for elastoplastic rate sensitive material and contacts. Numerical results of test models that represent tensile bar and tensile plate are compared with material data inputs. Dimensional changes for the yoke are calculated from simulations and compared to the mesurements and they show good agreement. The method presented here with the material model proved to be valuable to assess quality deterioration for similar metal forming processes.

  • This study was conducted to understand response of damage and tolerance to ozone between ozone tolerant and sensitive families of P. densiflora which had been selected by the based on visual injury and growth. Five individuals were selected in each group, and were exposed to 100ppb ozone for 90 days. Every 30 days after ozone fumigation, diamter at root collar (ORC), superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and malondialdehyde (MDA) content were measured. In early state of ozone fumigation tolerant families showed three times higher relative DRC growth rate than sensitive families. And during whole fumigation period growth rate of tolerant families was superior to growth rate of sensitive families. SOD activity in sensitive families was increased 30 days after fumigation, and in accordance with fumigation period extended it was decreased continuously. MDA content in ozone treatment showed higher than in control, and MDA content of tolerant families was higher than that sensitive families. In our results tolerant families has higher antioxidative activity than sensitive families. Therefore tolerant families can restrain lipid peroxidation and damage on physiological activity.

  • A stiffness in a dynamical system is numerically studied to investigate a sensitivity of a reactor to the delayed neutron spectra with the Doppler feedback. To test numerical procedure, we adopted a case of a reactivity accident in a point reactor model. We found that the stiffness is sensitive to a reactivity insertion rate and the delayed neutron spectra in the Doppler feedback phase. Our numerical results show that global reactor characteristics are not very sensitive to the delayed neutron spectra even though their instantaneous ones are sensitive. We present the time evolution of each precursor group explicitly.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of developing transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) for fentanyl used for the management of chronic cancer pain. The effect of type of pressure sensitive adhesive on the permeation of fentanyl from polyisobutylene (PIB), silicone and acrylic adhesive was evaluated. Due to the good adhesive force and relatively steady flux for 3 days, both acrylic and PIB adhesives were chosen for further study. The permeation rate of fentanyl was the highest from acrylic adhesive with hydroxyl functional group. Permeation rate increased linearly as the concentration of fentanyl in acrylic adhesive was increased from 2.5% to 10%. In case of PIB adhesive, crystals of fentanyl were developed above 5% drug load. $Crovol^{(R)}$ A40, $Crovol^{(R)}$ PK40 and Plurol $oleique^{(R)}$ provided higher flux of fentanyl.

  • In this paper, we develop the cost minimization model to select two incentives and total order quantity with consideration of remanufacture company's return incentive. Return rate is sensitive to the incentive that the manufacture company offers. Using a EOQ(Economic Order Quantity) model of a cost minimization, we show concavities of the model about two incentives and total order quantity respectively. According to the proposed algorithm using the concavities, we find out the optimized incentive prices and total order quantity. Through numerical study, we examine sensitive analysis of the incentive price and order quantity for each parameter when the return rate is sensitive to incentive. Company lessens incentive to reduce total price. However, this makes the total price increase due to a diminution of return quantity. We expect that domestic or overseas remanufacture businesses are able to decide optimal incentive and total order quantity by this research.

  • A multirate state feedback control (MRSFC) method is proposed for systems sensitive to disturbance and noise based on the multirate estimator design using current estimator. MRSFC updates the controller output slower than the measurement sampling fiequency of system output by a lifting factor $R=T_c/T_s$ The closed-loop MRSFC system is less sensitive to disturbance and noise due to filtering effect than the conventional single-rate control system The multirate estimator gain can be obtained by solving a conventional pole placement problem such that MRSFC has the same spectrum of eigenvalues in the s-plane as the single-rate control. We applied the proposed multirate state feedback controller to a galvanometer servo system Simulation and experimental results show that settling and tracking performances are improved compared with a conventional single-rate pole placement control (PPC).

  • The optimal extrusion process for the rate sensitive materials have been developed in this study. The preliminary designs of the die shapes have been carried out to maintain constant strain rate during extrusion and the upper bound approach has been applied to define the process variables (the die entrance velocity and the die length) including the rheology during deformation. The result for the axisymmetric extrusion process has been verified with rigid-viscoplastic finite element analysis. It has been confirmed that the optimal die has wider band of constant strain rate than the conical one does.
