  • The aim of this article is to outline the history and importance of the Korean rare books in Coll$\grave{e}$ge de France. With this purpose in mind, the historical background and the process of how these books came to Coll$\grave{e}$ge de France were studied through cataloguing the list, and then analyzing them by subject, printing type, and timeline. We examined the relationship between the private collections of Maurice Courant(1865-1935) and the Korean rare books held in Coll$\grave{e}$ge de France. The Bibliographie Cor$\acute{e}$enne written by Maurice Courant is the most important reference book for studying the publication of the late Joseon dynasty and finding the whereabouts of the Korean books in France. Also, we tried to figure out the best way to implement and make use of a bibliographic database, and contribute to the exploration and study of Korean Cultural Heritage scattered outside Korea.

  • This study explored types and characteristics of South Korean crossover picturebooks that are enjoyed across generations. Participants included three publishers, six critics, six illustrators and three picturebook researchers, and focused on 92 South Korean recommended picturebooks published from 1995 to 2014 as the research material for this study. The majority of Korean crossover picturebook type was story, followed by information and art. There were few wordless books. Common themes of the story picturebooks were contemplation, traditional culture, social changes (such as immigration and redevelopment), reminiscence, social relations, loss and death, family problems, and social incidents. Classic essays and novels were revised for picturebooks as were famous poems originally written for grown-ups. Informational books were about traditions in music, architecture, furniture and special occasions like wedding and ceremonies. The style of the drawings were precise and realistic. Some drawings were done by brush and Chinese ink on hanji (traditional Korean paper) or silk. Some books featured Korean calligraphy as well, enabling adult readers to also appreciate the beauty and delicacy of the books. Art books and wordless books were quite rare and exhibited a playful tone. Adults alone were not presumed to be the primary reading audience of the picture books. Implications were made for picturebook marketing in a society such as South Korea, where the elderly population is rapidly increasing. Various forms of art books and parodies were also welcome. One conclusion of the study was that more experimental and innovative works would be encouraging for the development of South Korean crossover picturebooks.

  • During his reign, Kwang-Hae-Kun has done various works to promote literature and book acquisition. Among those works is the establishment of a special office called 'Tok Seo Dang' as he was enthroned in 1608, though it was demolished in 1622. And 'Seo Chuk Kyo In To Kam' was built to recover the scattered and lost books. He encouraged the people to collect and publish books by rewarding those who were engaged in a sort of library works. Their primary responsibility was to collect rare and essential resources, seek the material even in China and publish them using metal printing type. They even sought the diaries and newsletters which the individuals kept at their house. The collected materials were first copied and then kept in 'Shilok' shrine. Among the imported books are Dae Myung Hoi Chon, Chon Choo Sa Chon, Tong Kam Chan Yo, Du Si Tong Chon, Ok Hae, Mun Seon, Hak Hae, Lim Geo Man Rok and some were without titles. Majority of the compiled materials were medical books and geographies like Shin Cheung Tong Kak Yeu Chi Seung Ram, Tong Eui Po Kam, etc. Because of this strenuous effort, they were able to collect and retrieve lots of books and materials between 1608 and 1623. Majority of the published books were of Confucianism(13) which were followed by Political and Legal items(5), Historical documents(3), literature (3), etc. Regarding our library history, one should never forget Kwang-Hae-Kun's significant and remarkable contribution to it.

For example, standard nomenclature for acupuncture points, herbal medicines and prescriptions have been treated. However, studies on standard nomenclature for traditional medical books are rare. Methods : Following up all articles in Journal of Korean Medical Classics[JKMC], which have romanized name for medical books and analyzing problems of those. Results : There were so several methods to write in romanized character even to unique and replaceable name. Conclusions : Romanized nomenclature for medical book as a terminology must have unique expression. So we suggest that authors to write articles have to use unique romanized nomenclature for medical books and books published in a certain country should be written in romanized characters with their own languages.

  • To prepare for war against the Qing, King Hyojong and Song Si-Yeol (Uam, 1607~1689) of Joseon compiled the "Sambang", a set of medical books by utilizing the experience of famous doctors from 8 provinces of Korea. After the compilation, the disciples of Uam compiled a book called "Sambang-chwaryo", a summary of the "Sambang". Although these two books have been mentioned several times in records, the actual books were known to be lost. However, a promotional article for "Sambang-chwaryo" in the 1940s edition list of the Haengnim publishing house, who tried to publish but failed, has been discovered, and a handwritten copy of the book from the editor's descendant has been obtained a few years ago. By acquiring this proofread copy, it has become possible to grasp the actual contents of the "Sambang-chwaryo". Moreover, the whole contents have been translated into modern Korean and released to the public. In this paper, we review the bibliographic information of this book and try to understand the purpose, process, author and various versions of the compilation and its history.
