  • Most nondestructive testing techniques require good contact between the sensor and tested concrete surface to obtain reliable data. But the surface preparation is often very time and labor consuming due to the rough surface or limited access of concrete structures. One approach to speed up the data collection process is to eliminate the need for physical contact between the sensor and tested structure. Non-contact air-coupled sensing technique can be a good solution to this problem. An obvious advantage of the non-contact air-coupled sensing technique is which can greatly speed up the data collection in field and thus the damage detection process can be completed very rapidly. In this article, recent developments in non-contact air-coupled sensing technique for rapid detection of damages in concrete structures are summarized to evoke interest, discussion and further developments on this technique to a NDT research community in Korea. It is worth noting that the works in this article have been published in the types of thesis, proceedings, and journals. All published sources are cited in the text and listed in reference.

  • The precursors of Ba1-xSrxTiO3(x=0.0-0.3) were prepared by the rapid addition of aqueous solution of titanyl oxalate to the mixed aqueous solution of barium and strontium at room temperature. The optimum pH was theoretically calculated from the equilibrium constants and solubility products. The chemical formula of the precursors obtained corresponded to Ba1-xSrxTiO(C2O4)2·4H2O(x=0.0-0.3) as determined by thermal gravimetric analysis. The precursors were converted to stoichiometric Ba1-xSrxTiO3(x=0.0-0.3) with a particle size of 0.01-0.04 μm. As increasing the amount of strontium substituted to barium sites, the structure of crystal changed from the tetragonal phase to the cubic and the unit cell volume was decreased.

  • Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate and climbazole as anti-dandruff agents widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceutics were micronized using supercritical fluid. Supercritical carbon dioxide was selected due to relatively low critical temperature and critical pressure. Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate and climbazole were chosen because of their solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide. The rapid expansion of supercritical solution (RESS) experiments involved investigations of the effect of pressure, temperature on particle size and morphology.

  • A new application of high pressure liquid chromatography for the determination of fenitrothion and cis- and trans-neopynamin in insecticidal preparations was investigated. Optimum conditions for a good separation and determination were determined; solvent system: dichloromethane + n-hexane = 17 + 83; Bow rate: 0.5ml/min; column: u-porasil ($4mm{\times}3Ocm$); absorbance wavelength: 254nm; 0.05 AUFS and sample size: 30 ul. Recovery of fenicrothion, cis- and trans-neopynamin from mixed artificial preparations was 99.6%, 99.7% and 99.8% respectively. Also reproducibility tests showed that the coefficient of variation was 0.89% for fenitrothion, 0.74% cis-neopynamin and 1.1% for trans-neopynamin. There was no interference with insecticidal preparation containing DDVP, allethrin, S-421 and kerosene. HPLC method was rapid, accurate and it gave better reproducibility and higher sensitivity than any other analytical method. It was considered that HPLC could be greatly applied to the analysis of fenitrothion and neopynamin in insecticidal preparations.

  • The Korean Geriatrics Society was founded on October 3, 1968. Over the 50 years since then, the Society has incessantly strived to stay attuned to the aging society and to achieve an increasingly greater research impact in the field of gerontology and geriatric medicine. The Society has passed through periods of preparation for a leap forward, followed by rapid growth, expansion, and maturity. As a result, the Society has gained a firm foothold at home and abroad as a leading research society for both qualitative and quantitative achievements in geriatric medicine. At this juncture, with an ultra-aging society being just around the corner, we are celebrating its 50th anniversary and anticipating our second half-century with great enthusiasm about our mission and role as a leading geriatric research organization.

  • Polymer bound 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-oximinopyrazoles were prepared through a series of chemical modifications of Merrifield's resin (chloromethylpolystyrene-$1{\%}$ DVB-copolymer). Several polymer active esters of N-blocked amino acids were prepared from the polymer bound 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-oximinopyrazoles. Polymer bound active esters were found to be highly reactive in N-acylation reaction. The resins were tested for the preparation of several dipeptides. The peptides were obtained in high yields within 10 minutes and the progress of the reactions could be easily followed up by the color change of the resin. The resulting peptides were characterized by NMR and other physical methods.

  • Recombinant interferon alpha is widely used for the treatment of diseases including chronic hepatitis C. However. it has drawbacks such as relatively short serum half-life and rapid clearance like other therapeutic proteins. Using PFGylFltioo which is one of the well-established methods to fulfill the requirements of a long-lasting form of protein. wIe prepared mono-PEG modified interferon alpha-2a in which polyethylene glycol moiety was covalently attached to the amino groups of interfelon alpha-2a. • Chiral building blocks have the importance in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries as well as in the development of rapid and efficient syntheses of bioactive compounds and natural product. Vinylstannane contains two synthetically useful functional groups (vinylstannane and allylic alcohol). The vinylstannane functional group can be used in C-C bond formation under a variety of conditions and the allylic alcohol functional can be used in hydroxyl-directed epoxidations, cyclopropanations, and sigmatropic rearrangements. • In this paper, we present a path search scheme for the safe movement of the swarm of unmanned systems in unknown dangerous areas. Some of the swarm searches for the primary and secondary paths before the majority of swarm move through dangerous areas. In terms of rapid movement from the dangerous area and preparation for an accident, the primary path is searched first in the destination's direction. The secondary path is searched by considering the distance between the paths to guarantee a safe distance. The computer simulations show that the proposed scheme is suitable for the swarm of unmanned systems.
