Typical operating method for long-range observation cameras are to detect the target at a wide angle of view and to recognize/identify the target with a telephoto angle of view. And the detection/recognition range performance is an important item to evaluate the performance of the defense infrared camera. To increased the detection range performance, the camera's field of view should be narrowed. Due to the narrow field of view, the probability of finding target is relatively low. In this paper, we propose a method to search for target by providing a wide angle view while maintaining detection range performance. M&S and optimized design were used to develop infrared camera with extended field of view and the results of the test summarized.
The equation based on vector inner product by the angles between pairs of two image rays can independently separate the position and pose of a camera. As our second application, the exterior calibration between a camera and a laser range finder is proposed here through analysis of surfaces created by the equation.
In this paper range measurement systems are designed using an ultrasonic sensor and a camera. An ultrasonic sensor provides the range measurement to a target quickly and simply but its low resolution is a disadvantage. We tackle this problem by employing a camera. Instead using a stereoscopic sensor, which is widely used for 3D sensing but requires a computationally intensive stereo matching, the range is measured by focusing and structured lighting. In focusing a straightforward focusing measure named as MMDH(min-max difference in histogram) is proposed and compared with existing techniques. In the method of structure lighting, light stripes projected by a beam projector are used. Compared to those using a laser beam projector, the designed system can be constructed easily in a low-budget. The system equation is derived by analysing the sensor geometry. A sensing scenario using the systems designed is in two steps. First, when better accuracy is required, measurements by ultrasonic sensing and focusing of a camera are fused by MLE(maximum likelihood estimation). Second, when the target is in a range of particular interest, a range map of the target scene is obtained by using structured lighting technique. The systems designed showed measurement accuracy up to 0.3[mm] approximately in experiments.
In this study the theoretical minimum resolution analysis of an active vision system using laser range finder is performed for surrounding recognition and 3D data acquisition in unknown environment. The laser range finder consists of a slitted laser beam generator, a scanning mechanism, CCD camera, and a signal processing unit. A laser beam from laser source is slitted by a set of cylindrical lenses and the slitted laser beam is emitted up and down and rotates by the scanning mechanism. The image of laser beam reflected on the surface of an object is engraved on the CCD array. In the result, the resolution of range data in laser range finder is depend on distance between lens center of CCD camera and light emitter, view and beam angles, and parameters of CCD camera.

Recently, handy pulse measurement method was introduced by using smart phone camera. However, measured values are not consistent with the variations of external light conditions, because the external light interfere with dynamic range of captured pulse image. Thus, adaptive dynamic range reconstruction algorithm is proposed to conduct pulse measurement robust to light condition. The minimum and maximum values for dynamic ranges of green and blue channels are adjusted to appropriate values for pulse measurement. In addition, sigmoid function based curve is applied to adjusted dynamic range. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm conducts suitably dynamic range reconstruction of pulse image for the interference of external light sources.

This paper presents the vergence control of a parallel stereo camera and its application to underwater stereo camera to enhance the working efficiency of underwater vehicles that equips with manipulators in seabed operation. The stereo camera consists of two parallel lenses mounted on a lateral moving base and two CCD cameras mounted on a longitudinal moving base, which is embedded in a small pressure canister for underwater application. Because the lateral shift is related to the backward shift with a nonlinear relation, only one control input is needed to control the vergence and focus of the camera with a special driving device. We can get a clear stereo vision with the camera for all the range of objects in air and in water, especially in short range objects. The control system of the camera is so simple that we are able to realize a small stereo camera system and to apply it to a stereo vision system for underwater vehicles. This paper also shows how to acquire the distance information of an underwater object with this stereo camera. Whenever we focus on an underwater object with the camera, we can obtain the three-dimensional images and the distance information in real-time.

To determine 3D(three-dimensional) positions using a stereo-camera in close-range photogrammetry, camera calibration to determine not only the interior orientation parameters of each camera but also the relative orientation parameters between the cameras must be preceded. As time passes after performing camera calibration, in the case of non-metric cameras, the interior and relative orientation parameters may change due to internal instability or external factors. In this study, to evaluate the stability of the stereo-camera, not only the stability of two single cameras and a stereo-camera were analyzed, but also the three-dimensional position accuracy was evaluated using checkpoints. As a result of evaluating the stability of two single cameras through three camera calibration experiments over four months, the root mean square error was ±0.001mm, and the root mean square error of the stereo-camera was ±0.012mm ~ ±0.025mm, respectively. In addition, as the results of distance accuracy using the checkpoint were ±1mm, the interior and relative orientation parameters of the stereo-camera were considered stable over that period.

Non-metric camera is more profitable than metric camera for geometric analysis of small and elaborate structures, because focal length control of non-metric camera is flexible while generally metric camera has limited focal length. And if the problem of conventional method requiring much time and endeavor to measure three dimensional positions of control points will be solved effectively, it is possible to analyze very close-range photogrammetry more easily and quickly. The purposes of this study are to propose the efficiency of non-metric camera and to reduce difficulty of control survey sharply by introducing self-control survey method. For these, very close-range photographs of the small object were obtained by using non-metric camera calibrated for systematic errors and then bundle adjustment is used for analysis procedure. As a result, the superiority of non-metric camera in analyzing very close-range photographs and the application proptriety of self-control survey were proved, therefore it is expected to be able to apply to precise analysis of small structures or spearhead parts.
The prompt gamma imaging (PGI) technique is considered as one of the most promising approaches to estimate the range of proton beam in the patient and unlock the full potential of proton therapy. In the PGI technique, a dedicated algorithm is required to estimate the range of the proton beam from the prompt gamma (PG) distribution acquired by a PGI system. In the present study, a new range estimation algorithm was developed for a multi-slit prompt-gamma camera, one of PGI systems, to estimate the range of proton beam with high accuracy. The performance of the developed algorithm was evaluated by Monte Carlo simulations for various beam/phantom combinations. Our results generally show that the developed algorithm is very robust, showing very high accuracy and precision for all the cases considered in the present study. The range estimation accuracy of the developed algorithm was 0.5-1.7 mm, which is approximately 1% of beam range, for 1×109 protons. Even for the typical number of protons for a spot (1×108), the range estimation accuracy of the developed algorithm was 2.1-4.6 mm and smaller than the range uncertainties and typical safety margin, while that of the existing algorithm was 2.5-9.6 mm.
