Dynamic reliability of structures: the example of multi-grid composite walls

  • Based on damage accumulation of multi-grid composite walls, a method of dynamic reliability estimations is proposed. The multi-grid composite wall is composed of edge frame beam, edge frame columns, grid beams, grid columns and filling blocks. The equations including stiffness, shear forces at filling blocks cracking and multi-grid composite walls yielding, ultimate displacement, and damage index are obtained through tests of 13 multi-grid composite wall specimens. Employing these equations in reliability calculations, procedures of dynamic reliability estimations based on damage accumulation of multi-grid composite walls subjected to random earthquake excitations are proposed. Finally the proposed method is applied to the typical composite wall specimen subjected to random earthquake excitations which can be specified by a finite number of input random variables. The dynamic reliability estimates, when filling blocks crack under earthquakes corresponding to 63% exceedance in 50 years and when the composite wall reach limit state under earthquakes corresponding to 2-3% exceedance in 50 years, are obtained using the proposed method by taking damage indexes as thresholds. The results from the proposed method which show good agreement with those from Monte-Carlo simulations demonstrate the proposed method is effective.

  • A novel three degrees of freedom sensing method utilizing binary grid pattern image and vision camera is presented. The binary grid pattern image is designed by Pseudo-Random Binary Arrays and referenced to encode in-plane position of a moving stage of the contact-free planar actuator. First, the yaw motion of the stage is detected using fast image processing and then the other planar positions, x and y, are decoded with a sequence of images. This method can be applied to the system that needs feedback of in-plane position, with advantages of a good accuracy and high resolution comparable with the encoder, a relatively compact structure, no friction, and a low cost. In this paper, all the procedures of the above sensing mechanism are described in detail, including simulation and experiment results.

PPNC: Privacy Preserving Scheme for Random Linear Network Coding in Smart Grid

  • In smart grid, privacy implications to individuals and their families are an important issue because of the fine-grained usage data collection. Wireless communications are utilized by many utility companies to obtain information. Network coding is exploited in smart grids, to enhance network performance in terms of throughput, delay, robustness, and energy consumption. However, random linear network coding introduces a new challenge for privacy preserving due to the encoding of data and updating of coefficients in forwarder nodes. We propose a distributed privacy preserving scheme for random linear network coding in smart grid that considers the converged flows character of the smart grid and exploits a homomorphic encryption function to decrease the complexities in the forwarder node. It offers a data confidentiality privacy preserving feature, which can efficiently thwart traffic analysis. The data of the packet is encrypted and the tag of the packet is encrypted by a homomorphic encryption function. The forwarder node random linearly codes the encrypted data and directly processes the cryptotext tags based on the homomorphism feature. Extensive security analysis and performance evaluations demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the proposed scheme.

Improved Contrast for Threshold Random-grid-based Visual Cryptography

  • Pixel expansion and contrast are two major performance parameters for visual cryptography scheme (VCS), which is a type of secret image sharing. Random Grid (RG) is an alternative approach to solve the pixel expansion problem. Chen and Tsao proposed the first (k, n) RG-based VCS, and then Guo et al., Wu et al., Shyu, and Yan et al. significantly improved the contrast in recent years. However, the investigations on improving the contrast of threshold RG-based VCS are not sufficient. In this paper, we develop a contrast-improved algorithm for (k, n) RG-based VCS. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperformers the previous threshold algorithms with better visual quality and a higher accuracy of contrast.

기피비용과 수송비용을 고려한 기피시설 입지문제 (An unwanted facility location problem with negative influence cost and transportation cost)

  • In the location science, environmental effect becomes a new main consideration for site selection. For the unwanted facility location selection, decision makers should consider the cost of resolving the environmental conflict. We introduced the negative influence cost for the facility which was inversely proportional to distance between the facility and residents. An unwanted facility location problem was suggested to minimize the sum of the negative influence cost and the transportation cost. The objective cost function was analyzed as nonlinear type and was neither convex nor concave. Three GRASP (Greedy Randomized adaptive Search Procedure) methods as like Random_GRASP, Epsilon_GRASP and GRID_GRASP were developed to solve the unwanted facility location problem. The Newton's method for nonlinear optimization problem was used for local search in GRASP. Experimental results showed that quality of solution of the GRID_GRASP was better than those of Random_GRASP and Epsilon_GRASP. The calculation time of Random_GRASP and Epsilon_GRASP were faster than that of Grid_GRASP.

2차원 Random-Walk 모형을 이용한 자연하천의 횡확산 해석 (Modeling of Transverse Mixing in Natural Streams Using 2-D Random-Walk Model)

  • 자연하천에 유입된 오염물질의 확산거동을 해석하기 위하여 통계학적인 개념을 이용하여 오염물질 입자의 운동을 묘사하는 2차원 Random-Walk 모형을 개발하였다. 개발된 모형을 검정한 결과, 고정격자의 개수를 증가시키거나 각각의 고정격자 내에 포함된 입자개수의 평균값을 증가시키면 해의 정밀도가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 모형의 현장 적용성을 검토하기 위하여 캐나다에 위치한 Grand River에서 수행된 정상상태의 색소실험 결과와 본 모형에 의한 계산결과를 비교하였다. 그 결과 본 모형은 단면과 곡률이 불규칙하게 변하는 자연하천에서의 횡확산을 정확하게 모의하는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 계산 그리드 컴퓨팅은 수많은 컴퓨팅 자원들을 이용하여, 슈퍼 컴퓨팅이나 이전의 분산 컴퓨팅으로 해결 할 수 없는 대용량의 연산 문제를 해결한다. 계산 그리드 컴퓨팅 환경에서의 자원은 이 기종으로 구성되어, 효율적인 작업 처리를 위해서는 스케줄링 기법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 계산 그리드에서 효율적인 작업 스케줄링을 위하여 퍼지로직 기반의 그리드 작업 스케줄링 모델을 제안한다. 퍼지로직 기반의 그리드 작업 스케줄링 모델은 퍼지로직을 이용하여 자원의 효율성을 평가하며, 평가된 기반으로 그룹을 구성하여 작업을 할당하는 모델이다. 우리는 DEVS 모델링 & 시뮬레이션 환경에서 시뮬레이션 모델을 구성하고 Random 스케줄링과 MCT 스케줄링 모델과의 비교 실험을 통하여 제안된 퍼지로직 기반의 그리드 작업 스케줄링 모델이 작업완료시간, 작업손실, 통신량을 개선함으로써 더욱 더 안정적이고 빠른 작업 처리 서비스를 그리드 사용자에게 제공할 수 있다는 사실을 증명하였다.

실내 환경에서의 주행가능성을 고려한 라이다 기반 이동 로봇 탐사 기법 (LiDAR-based Mobile Robot Exploration Considering Navigability in Indoor Environments)

  • This paper presents a method for autonomous exploration of indoor environments using a 2-dimensional Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) scanner. The proposed frontier-based exploration method considers navigability from the current robot position to extracted frontier targets. An approach to constructing the point cloud grid map that accurately reflects the occupancy probability of glass obstacles is proposed, enabling identification of safe frontier grids on the safety grid map calculated from the point cloud grid map. Navigability, indicating whether the robot can successfully navigate to each frontier target, is calculated by applying the skeletonization-informed rapidly exploring random tree algorithm to the safety grid map. While conventional exploration approaches have focused on frontier detection and target position/direction decision, the proposed method discusses a safe navigation approach for the overall exploration process until the completion of mapping. Real-world experiments have been conducted to verify that the proposed method leads the robot to avoid glass obstacles and safely navigate the entire environment, constructing the point cloud map and calculating the navigability with low computing time deviation.

자원 신뢰성 측정을 통한 효율적인 그리드 자원 스케줄링 모델 (Efficient Grid Resource Scheduling Model with Resource Reliability Measurement)

  • 그리드 컴퓨팅은 단일 컴퓨터로는 해결할 수 없는 대용량의 작업을 처리하기 위해 제안되었다. 그리드 컴퓨팅은 지리적으로 분산된 이기종 자원들을 상호 연결하여 대용량의 작업들을 처리하는 새로운 차세대 컴퓨팅이다. 그런데, 분산된 이기종의 자원들을 모을 때에 많은 어려운 문제들이 발생한다. 특히, 자원들의 신뢰성을 보장하는 것은 가장 심각한 문제 중에 하나이다. 그래서 우리는 그리드 자원의 신뢰성을 측정하여 자원을 할당하는 그리드 자원 신뢰성 측정 스케줄링 모델을 제안한다. 우리는 자원의 상태 정보를 기반으로 하여 자원 신뢰성을 측정하고, DEVSJAVA 모델링과 시뮬레이션 환경에서 그리드 시뮬레이션 모델에 그리드 자원 신뢰성 측정 방법을 적용하였다. 그리고, 이 논문은 스케줄링 모델들의 Utilization, Job loss, Throughput 그리고 Average Turn-around Time 같은 파라미터들을 측정하였고, 자원 신뢰성 측정을 이용한 그리드 자원 신뢰성 측정 스케줄링 모델의 실험 결과들을 기존의 스케줄링 모델들(랜덤 스케줄링 모델, 라운드 로빈 스케줄링 모델)과 비교하였다. 이 실험 결과들은 자원 신뢰성 측정 스케줄링 모델이 랜덤 스케줄링 모델과 라운드 로빈 스케줄링 모델에 비해 효율적인 자원 할당과 안정적인 작업 처리를 제공한다는 것을 보여준다.

PIV에서의 보간기법의 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation of Interpolation Methods in PIV)

  • To maintain high spacial accuracy and rapid CPU time in interpolating data from grid to random position or inversely in PIV, proposed many technuques are compared and discussed mainly in terms of interpolating error and computing time. And artificial PIV atmosphere data is furnished by CFD result. First, for interpolation from grid to random position, multiquadric method gives the highest accuracy with the longest CPU time and Taylor series expansion methods give reasonable accuracy with less calculating load. Secondly, the sub-pixel resolution analysis in estimating the coordinates of the maximum correlation coefficients essential in the grey level correlation PIV reveal that 8-neighbours 2nd-order least square interpolation gives utmost accuracy in terms of the real flow conditions.
