  • A combined random/reservation multiple access protocol is proposed which can provide services for packet transmission in mobile satellite systems between mobile statons, or between mobile stations and fixed stations. Random multiple access protocol and reservation multiple access protocol which are currently employed in most satellite communication systems have some strengthes and some weeknesses in according to the kind of user and traffic. In this paper, a combined random/reservation multiple access protocol with better characteristics is proposed. The models of the modified random access protocol and the proposed access protocol is setted and analyzed. The performance of the PDAMA protocol, the random access protocol and the proposed access protocol is compared using simulation. For small packet arrival rate, the performance of the proposed access protocol is close at that of the modified random access protocol, and better than that of the PDAMA protocol. As the packet arrival rate is increased, the modified random access protocol is saturated and unstable at 0.23, and the performance of the proposed access protocol is better than that of the PDAMA protocol.

  • An animated ink diffusion on paper is simulated through making a multiple sessions of random walks. The simulated random walk is built and validated against the diffusion model, then animated by varying the intensity thresholds of the accumulated visit counts on each pixels on an image. Two different random walk models are built one of which is a free random walk in that the walker has exactly same probability to move in any four or eight directions in each step. The other is a biased random walk that has a higher chance to go to a pixel that has more similar intensity value. The latter can be used to simulate an ink diffusion radiating through different texture of paper.

  • This paper is to identify the position of random disturbance on flexible dynamic system, and the position of the piezo ceramic actuator 0 minimize tip response. Correlation of the output signals from each parts on flexible system is used to identify the position of random disturbance. Except the correlation with an output signal from the position of random disturbance, other correlations have time delay. This is a base idea to identify the position on this study.

  • In many cases, we are interested in identifying independence between variables. For continuous random variables, correlation coefficients are often used to describe the relationship between variables; however, correlation does not imply independence. For finite discrete random variables, we can use the Pearson chi-square test to find independency. For the mixed type of continuous and discrete random variables, we do not have a general type of independent test. In this study, we develop a independence test of a continuous random variable and a discrete random variable without assuming a specific distribution using kernel density estimation. We provide some statistical criteria to test independence under some special settings and apply the proposed independence test to Pima Indian diabetes data. Through simulations, we calculate false positive rates and true positive rates to compare the proposed test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test.

  • A Korean syllable is regarded as a random variable according to its probabilistic property in occurrence. A Korean syllable is divided into a 'choseong', a 'jungseong', and a 'jongseong' which are regarded as random variables. From the cumulative freaquency of a Korean syllable all possible joint probabilities and conditional probabilities are computed for the three ramdom variables. From the joint probabilities and the conditional probabilities all possible joint entropies and conditional entropies are computed for the three random varibles. Also all possible average mutual informations are calculated for the three random variables. Average mutual informatin between two random variables hss its biggest value between choseong and jungseong. Average mutual information between a random variable and other two random variables has its biggest value between jungseong and choseong-jongseong.

  • In this paper, we present some results on weak laws of large numbers for weighted sums of fuzzy random variables taking values in the space of normal and upper-semicontinuous fuzzy sets with compact support in a separable real Banach space. First, we give weak laws of large numbers for weighted sums of strong-compactly uniformly integrable fuzzy random variables. Then, we consider the case that the weighted averages of expectations of fuzzy random variables converge. Finally, weak laws of large numbers for weighted sums of strongly tight or identically distributed fuzzy random variables are obtained as corollaries.

  • Pseudo-random load waves for fatigue testing were generated by personal computer simulation and preliminary study was performed on the growth behavior of surface fatigue crack under random ladings. The closure behavior and growth rates of surface fatigue crack were significantly influenced by the characteristics of random waves. It was also found that the growth rates of surface fatigue crack under random loadings could not be always described by the effective stress intensity factor based on the concept of crack closure.

  • The random signals defined as sums of the single frequency sinusoidal signals with random amplitudes and random phases or equivalently sums of functions obtained by adding a Sine and a Cosine function with random amplitudes, are used in the double randomization method for the Monte Carlo solution of the turbulent systems. We show that these random signals can be used for studying the properties of the Johnson noise by proving that constant multiples of these signals with uniformly distributed frequencies in a fixed frequency band satisfy the properties of the Gaussian white noise.

  • In this work, random homogenization analysis for the effective thermal properties of a three-dimensional composite material with unidirectional fibers is presented by combining the equivalent inclusion method with Random Factor Method (RFM). The randomness of the micro-structural morphology and constituent material properties as well as the correlation among these random parameters are completely accounted for, and stochastic effective thermal properties as thermal expansion coefficients as well as their correlation are then sought. Results from the RFM and the Monte-Carlo Method (MCM) are compared. The impact of randomness and correlation of the micro-structural parameters on the random homogenized results is revealed by two methods simultaneously, and some important conclusions are obtained.
