This study is aimed at the development of a runoff forecasting model to solve the uncertainties occurring in the process of rainfall-runoff modeling and improve the modeling accuracy of the stream runoff forecasting, The study area is the downstream of Naeseung-chun. Therefore, time-dependent data was obtained from the Wolpo water level gauging station. 11 and 2 out of total 13 flood events were selected for the training and testing set of model. The model performance was improved as the measuring time interval$(T_m)$ was smaller than the sampling time interval$(T_s)$. The Neuro-Fuzzy(NF) and TANK models can give more accurate runoff forecasts up to 4 hours ahead than the Feed Forward Multilayer Neural Network(FFNN) model in standard above the Determination coefficient$(R^2)$ 0.7.
In hydrologic modeling, prediction uncertainty generally stems from various uncertainty sources associated with model structure, data, and parameters, etc. This study aims to assess the parameter uncertainty effect on hydrologic prediction results. For this objective, a distributed rainfall-sediment yield-runoff model, which consists of rainfall-runoff module for simulation of surface and subsurface flows and sediment yield module based on unit stream power theory, was applied to the mesoscale mountainous area (Cheoncheon catchment; 289.9 $km^2$). For parameter uncertainty evaluation, the model was calibrated by a multi-objective optimization algorithm (MOSCEM) with two different objective functions (RMSE and HMLE) and Pareto optimal solutions of each case were then estimated. In Case I, the rainfall-runoff module was calibrated to investigate the effect of parameter uncertainty on hydrograph reproduction whereas in Case II, sediment yield module was calibrated to show the propagation of parameter uncertainty into sedigraph estimation. Additionally, in Case III, all parameters of both modules were simultaneously calibrated in order to take account of prediction uncertainty in rainfall-sediment yield-runoff modeling. The results showed that hydrograph prediction uncertainty of Case I was observed over the low-flow periods while the sedigraph of high-flow periods was sensitive to uncertainty of the sediment yield module parameters in Case II. In Case III, prediction uncertainty ranges of both hydrograph and sedigraph were larger than the other cases. Furthermore, prediction uncertainty in terms of spatial distribution of erosion and deposition drastically varied with the applied model parameters for all cases.
The purpose of developing a rainfall-runoff and reservoir model is to provide an analysis tool for hydrological engineers in order to forecast discharge of rivers and to accomplish reservoir operations easily and accurately. In this study, based on the short-term rainfall-runoff storage function model which has gained popularity for real time flood forecast in practical water management affairs, a long-term runoff model was developed for the improvement of the calculation method of effective rainfall and percolation at the infiltration area. Annual discharge was simulated for three dam watersheds(Andong, Hapcheon, Milyang) in Nakdong River basin to analyze the accuracy of the developed model and compare it to SSARR model, which is used as the long-term runoff model in current practical water management affairs. As the result of the comparison of hydrographs, SSARR model showed relatively better results. However, it is possible for the developed model to simulate reliable long-term runoff using relatively little available data and is useful for hydrological engineers in practical affairs.
A novel approach of Poisson cluster stochastic rainfall generator was validated in its ability to reproduce important rainfall and watershed response characteristics at 104 locations of the United States. The suggested novel approach - The Hybrid Model(THM), as compared to the traditional ones, has an additional function to account for the year-to-year variability of rainfall statistics. The two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to see how well THM and traditional approach of Poisson cluster rainfall model reproduce the distribution of the following hydrologic variables: monthly maximum rainfall depths with 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hour duration, monthly maximum flow peaks at the virtual watersheds with Curve Number of 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90; and monthly runoff depths at the same virtual watersheds. In all of the testing variables, THM significantly outperformed the traditional approach. This result indicates that the year-to-year variability of rainfall statistics contains important information about the characteristics of rainfall processes that were not considered by the conventional approach of Poisson cluster rainfall modeling and that further considering it in rainfall simulation will enhance the performance of the rainfall models.

In engineering hydrology, an estimation of precipitation loss is one of the most important issues for successful modeling to forecast flooding or evaluate water resources for both surface and subsurface flows in a watershed. An accurate estimation of precipitation loss is required for successful implementation of rainfall-runoff models. Precipitation loss or hydrological abstraction may be defined as the portion of the precipitation that does not contribute to the direct runoff. It may consist of several loss elements or abstractions of precipitation such as infiltration, depression storage, evaporation or evapotranspiration, and interception. A composite loss rate model that combines four loss rates over time is derived as a lumped form of a continuous time function for a storm event. The composite loss rate model developed is an exponential model similar to Horton's infiltration model, but its parameters have different meanings. In this model, the initial loss rate is related to antecedent precipitation amounts prior to a storm event, and the decay factor of the loss rate is a composite decay of four losses.
This study produced the parameter maps of the Modified Bartlett-Lewis Rectangular Pulse (MBLRP) stochastic rainfall generation model across South Korea and developed and validated the web application that automates the process of rainfall generation based on the produced parameter maps. To achieve this purpose, three deferent sets of parameters of the MBLRP model were estimated at 62 ground gage locations in South Korea depending on the distinct purpose of the synthetic rainfall time series to be used in hydrologic modeling (i.e. flood modeling, runoff modeling, and general purpose). The estimated parameters were spatially interpolated using the Ordinary Kriging method to produce the parameter maps across South Korea. Then, a web application has been developed to automate the process of synthetic rainfall generation based on the parameter maps. For validation, the synthetic rainfall time series has been created using the web application and then various rainfall statistics including mean, variance, autocorrelation, probability of zero rainfall, extreme rainfall, extreme flood, and runoff depth were calculated, then these values were compared to the ones based on the observed rainfall time series. The mean, variance, autocorrelation, and probability of zero rainfall of the synthetic rainfall were similar to the ones of the observed rainfall while the extreme rainfall and extreme flood value were smaller than the ones derived from the observed rainfall by the degree of 16%-40%. Lastly, the web application developed in this study automates the entire process of synthetic rainfall generation, so we expect the application to be used in a variety of hydrologic analysis needing rainfall data.
This study describes the modeling of climate change impact on runoff across southeast Korea using a conceptual rainfall-runoff model TANK and assesses the results using the concept of environmental flows developed by International Water Management Institute. The future climate time series is obtained by scaling the historical series, informed by 4 global climate models and 3 greenhouse gas emission scenarios, to reflect a $4.0^{\circ}C$ increase at most in average surface air temperature and 31.7% increase at most in annual precipitation, using the spatio-temporal changing factor method that considers changes in the future mean seasonal rainfall and potential evapotranspiration as well as in the daily rainfall distribution. Although the simulation results from different global circulation models and greenhouse emission scenarios indicate different responses in flows to the climate change, the majority of the modeling results show that there will be more runoff in southeast Korea in the future. However, there is substantial uncertainty, with the results ranging from a 5.82% decrease to a 48.15% increase in the mean annual runoff averaged across the study area according to the corresponding climate change scenarios. We then assess the hydrologic perturbations based on the comparison between present and future flow duration curves suggested by IMWI. As a result, the effect of hydrologic perturbation on aquatic ecosystems may be significant at several locations of the Nakdong river main stream in dry season.
It needs to conceptualize watershed with triangular or rectangular elements and to analyze the changes in hydrological components of each element for distributed modeling of rainfall-runoff process. This study is the network analysis of watershed grid for flow routing occurred in each element when analyzing rainfall-runoff process by one-dimensional kinematic wave equation. Single flow direction from D8-method(deterministic eight-neighbors method) is used, and the information of flow direction and flow accumulation are used to determine the computation order of each element. The application theory of finite volume method is suggested for each flow direction pattern between elements, and it is applied it to calculate the flow of each grid. Network analysis method from this study is applied to GRM(Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model) which is physically based distributed rainfall-runoff model, and the results from simplified hypothetical watersheds are compared with $Vflo^{TM}$ to examine the reasonability of the method. It is applied to Jungrangcheon watershed in Han river for verification, and examination of the applicability to real site. The results from Jungrangcheon watershed show good agreement with measured hydrographs, and the application of the network analysis method to real site is proper.

The Tonle Sap is the richest and diverseness of freshwater ecosystem in Southeast Asia, receiving nurturing water flows from the Mekong and its immediate basin. In addition, the rapid development in the Tonle Sap Lake (TSL) Basin, and flood inundation may threaten the natural diversities and characteristics. The impacts of flood inundation in 11 sub-basins contributing to the Tonle Sap Lake were assessed using the Rainfall-Runoff-Inundation (RRI) model to quantify the potential magnitude and extent of the flooding. The RRI model is set up by using gauged rainfall data to simulate the information of river discharge and flood inundation of huge possible flood events. Moreover, two satellite precipitation products (SPPs), CHIRPS and GSMaP, within respectively spatial resolutions of 0.05° and 0.1°, are utilized as an input for the RRI model to simulate river discharge, flood depth, and flood extent for the great TSL Basin of Cambodia. This study used statistical indicators such as NSE, PBIAS, RSR, and R2 as crucial indices to evaluate the performance of the RRI model. Therefore, the findings of this study could provide promising guidance in hydrological modeling and the significant implications for flood risk management and disaster preparedness in the region.

This study is to assess the reduction of non-point source pollution loads for rice straw surface covering of upland crop cultivation at a watershed scale. For Byulmi-cheon watershed ($1.21km^2$) located in the upstream of Gyeongancheon, the HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran), a physically based distributed hydrological model was applied. Before evaluation, the model was calibrated and validated using 9 rainfall events. The Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency (NSE) for streamflow was 0.62~0.78 and the NSE for water quality (Sediment, T-N, and T-P) were 0.68, 0.60, and 0.58 respectively. From the field experiment of 16 rainfall events, the rice straw covering reduced surface runoff average 10 % compared to normal surface condition. By handling infiltration parameter (INFILT) in the model, the value of 16.0 mm/hr was found to reduce about 10 % reduction of surface runoff. For this condition, the reduction effect of Sediment, T-N, and T-P loads were 87.2, 28.5, and 85.1 % respectively. The rice straw surface covering was effective for removing surface runoff dependent loads such as Sediment and T-P.
