Existing grade crossings between railway and roadway area gradually changed to grade separation systems by the law. In the case of new roadway construction which crosses railways, it shall be grade separation system in principle. With the railway underground crossing method, many practices have been developed which can minimize rail displacements and avoid rail release. With these methods, the effects to the train can be reduced. The underground crossing methods can be identified as open-cut methods and non open-cut methods. The open-cut methods include temporary support methods and special rail construction methods. Also the non open-cut methods includes pipe roof methods, front jacking methods, messer shield methods, NTR methods and JES methods. Among these, the most suitable method is applied considering safety, economy, class of each rail system (train passing frequency and velocity), etc. In the non open-cut methods, the cost and duration shall be increased to keep existing rail system during construction. In the open-cut methods which use plate girders, the rail speed shall be restricted due to the displacement and vibration of the girder. In this study new grade separation methods were developed. With this method, the safety during construction can be increased. This method refines temporary support methods, but pc slab girder with huge stiffness is applied instead of plate girders. With this method, the rail displacement can be reduced and higher safety can be obtained during construction. Also construction cost and duration can be minimized because the temporary work and the overburden soil depth can be reduced.
In this study, numerical analysis and model experiments were conducted to analyze behavioral characteristics acting on the track roadbed with excavation through steel pipe injection, a non-exclusive method of crossing construction under railroad as primary target. In model experiments that simulate injection excavation behaviors with an increase in the depth of soil cover, the upper displacement was measured by construction of the first and the second pipes in order to predict actual behaviors, and the behavior characteristics were verified through numerical analysis. The investigation results showed that surface displacement was smaller under the condition of higher soil cover. In the case of injecting two pipes, when the first pipe was injected, deformation of the surface increased linearly in both settlement and uplift experiments. However, when the second pipe was injected, the amount of change was found to be very small due to the relaxation and plastic zones around the first pipe. In addition, the results of numerical analysis on the same cross section with the model experiment found that the results of investigation into settlement ratio and volume loss were in very good agreement with those obtained by the model experiment.
Operation of KORAIL's level crossing is in charge of KORAIL. As taking over existing level crossing to KORAIL, they do not conduct risk assessments, so we do not know about any possibilities of inner risk. And present operation of safety of the level crossing is just regular checking of reaction and functions of safety equipments physically, we need to react to the changes of what's going on around of level crossing and incestigation of traffic flow and surrounding conditions more spontaneously. So, we have to prepare the strategies against accidents of level crossing cost-effectively based on regular risk assessments for sustainable safety improvements and overcome operational problems of present level crossing's safety. Here, we're going to investigate the level of safety level and present risk factors of the level crossing using risk assessments for accidents/error of the equipments to show operational strategies of level crossing based on risk assessments.
In this paper, the hazardous rail-crossings of 100 sites were selected by preliminary hazard analysis on the 1774 sites in Sep. 2002. The risk factors of rail-crossing were reviewed on the accidents happened in '94$\~$'02 years, and the accident progress mechanism due to 5 types of rail-crossing structure was developed by the cause-result relationship analysis. Method coping with the risk factors was proposed for improving safety of rail-crossing.
Korean government announced long-term railway safety investment plan for the safety improvement by 2020. But no research have been done about differential analysis on railroad safety investment and safety improvement. In this study, recent 10 year data on safety investments and accident data are analysed for the differential analysis. Three main safety investments are analysed on regard to accident rate and accident fatalities. Three safety measures include level crossing accident, platform fatalities, and track trespass fatalities. About 90% of railway accident fatalities are caused by these three kind of accidents. Differential analysis shows about 4 to 6 years delay after railroad safety investment and safety improvement. This result can be utilized for the decision making on safety measures and safety target. Which required long term approach.
Accidents at level crossing where railways and roads cross cause many casualties because of collision of cars etc and it also has a risk of the 2nd accident of trains. it is the most vulnerable point in the railway safety. Fundamental solution for accidents at level crossing is making the crossings cubic. but it can't be easily progressed because of environmental and financial difficulties. every kind of anti-accident measures are being strived for. one of the strived results is level crossing obstacle detector which automatically detects obstacles like defected cars etc in the middle of level crossing and transmits the information of obstacles to the approaching train. However present level crossing obstacle auto detector needs high expenses to be installed and has difficulties that lenses of beam transmitter, beam receiver should be cleaned in snowing winter. this document reviews level crossing obstacle auto detector using ultrasonic sensor to measure these difficulties.
Rail crossings are major accident-prone areas. Higher traffic volume, frequent rail operation, increased train speed all contribute to increased accident rate and severity In Korea efforts are being made to upgrade currently at-grade rail crossings to grade crossings. There is, however, no quantified analysis measures to analyse the impact of rail grade crossing, thus make it difficult to prioritize different projects under the budget constraints. Projects are selected based on the negotiation between Korea National Railway(KNR) and local governments. To shed light on the development effort for Korean procedure, GradeDec 2000 program of Federal Railroad Adminstration(FRA) was applied for Korean context. Case study involving three rail crossing was ca]lied out, and results are analyzed. Research efforts which need further attention are identified, research direction is analyzed considering local procedure, and issues in the application of the procedures are discussed in detail.
Both the first author and the company of the second author were involved, directly or indirectly, in the design stage of a permanent link between the bottom of the Italian peninsula and the nearby Sicily island. This ambitious project was left in stand-by from 2013 to 2023. The current political revival originates some thoughts on the updated desired performance of suspension bridges, without any immediate reference to that specific crossing. It is simply regarded as a starting point. After an update on recent worldwide realizations, the authors focus their attention on four basic aspects: the span length, the girder scheme, the foundation technology and the bridge runability. Eventually, structural control and monitoring aspects are discussed as potentially innovative options in designing suspension bridges with railway crossing.

In this study, the structural stability of the railway level crossing system using rubber panel for high speed lines was investigated by applying the specification for wind load conditions (Train gust) of high speed train (300km/h and 360km/h). A finite element analysis using three-dimensional modeling was carried out by applying the field conditions that was installed with the complicated configuration of the rubber plate panel system. As a result of this study, the structural stability of the rubber plate panel system for high speed train gust was analytically verified.
In this paper, is propose to the object(human) dection method using geometrical structures and projection histograms in the image. The problem of existing methods for objects tracking of background subtracted is resulted from uncertainty at background unfixed. In this paper, two methods are applied to solve problem. This problems are proved by method. This problems is demonstrated by using this methods and applied to the train railroad crossing. Therefore, this paper aims that this contributes to improve the accident of the train railroad crossing.
