  • Urban railroad is the central axis of public transportation which transport the citizens quickly and safely. The idea of the maintenance of urban railroad cars is preventive maintenance aiming at breakdown prevention, and it should be performed conforming to the fixed regulations and maintenance guide. The accuracy of maintenance and the punctuality of rolling stock operation could be secured by reliable inspection equipments. In this study, a scientific maintenance and safe operation of rolling stocks & a method of improving work efficiency will be examined through the case that Busan Urban Railroad has developed its own vehicle inspection equipment and has been making good use of it.

  • The railroad facilities are intended for long-term operation as the initial acquisition costs necessary for infrastructure construction are high. Therefore, regular maintenance of railroad facilities is essential, and furthermore, system reliability through systematic performance evaluation is required. In this study, the signal control system of railroad electrical equipment was selected as the subject of research and the performance evaluation target facility selection study was conducted using AHP. The results of the study can contribute to the reliability of the signal control system as well as to the reliability of the railroad system, which is a higher system.

  • In this paper, Computer-aided Maintenance Equipments, which are being used in maintenance, are applied to analyze failures in train control systems, resulting in long time delays of trains. It can be expected to extend and apply CAMS (Computer Aided Maintenance System) in the hereafter efficient operation and maintenance of high-speed railway train control systems, by comparison between the analysis result of fundamental causes, from high-speed railway train control system failures occurred during the operational process, and predictive result of failure causes, based on the recording data of CAMS when failures were occurred.

  • With the introduction of KTX, in my view it is necessary to secure the reliability of high-speed trains, make them stabilized at the earliest moment possible, and completely digest them as our own system for the purpose of being second to none in the area of railroad business. I am going to study in this thesis through analysis of train failures by help of MKBSF calculation, breaking from the convention in maintaining the high-speed trains, in order to establish and apply the computerized system called as RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), foster manpower in charge of the reliability maintenance, and realize the scientific and efficient maintenance covering the whole field of maintenance. Depending on how efficiently and scientifically we can perform the maintenance activities, we will be able to not only reduce the maintenance cost but also ensure the railroad security, and as a natural consequence improve the railroad image much better.

  • Based on real jobs, this study was carried out the Railway maintenance works in Taiwan. It hopes to use Geographic Information System(GIS) and Building Information Modeling(BIM) for changing the maintenance model from "post-damage repair" to "preventive maintenance". Accordingly, this research will build a Railway Repairing Database that installs all repair data. This database will also connect to GIS so that can be the source of analysis and statistic for repair paln. The main results of research are as follows: I. All data stored on cloud space that raises the ability to manage and plan on repair. II. Simplify the file work and increase the quantity of case data to the manager who can get more reliable source. III. The data offer objective judgment to avoid subjective argument. IV. Add the GIS information to improve the maintenance because of good analisis.

  • This paper presents a development and evaluation of a spring type tensioning device for Korea railroad. The wheel type tensioning device used in the Korea railroad requires much time and labor for maintenance including wire replacement and oil application. So, we found it necessary to develop a new type of maintenance-free tensioning device. In this paper, we introduced a spring type tensioning device for Korea railroad.

  • This paper presents field test results of a spring type tensioning device for Korea railroad.   • The advent of private railroad corporations presented many problems on administration's effectiveness. These brought an effect on safety management too. Most public railroad corporations maintain their rolling stocks and facilities by their own workers. On the other hand, private railroad corporations depend on outsourcing to cut down the cost of maintenance. But they have similar safety management systems. Therefore we investigated the gap between the two types of corporations, focusing on workers' safety attitude and proposed solutions to improve safety management systems in private railroad corporations.

  • Recently, the demand on the practical application of life-cycle cost effectiveness for design and rehabilitation of civil infrastructure is rapidly growing unprecedentedly in civil engineering practice. Accordingly, it is expected that the life-cycle cost in the 21st century will become a new paradigm for all engineering decision problems in practice. However, in spite of impressive progress in the researches on the LCC, so far, most researches in Koreahave only focused on roadway bridges, which are not applicable to railway bridges. Thus, this paper presents the formulation models and methods for uncertainty-based LCCA for railroad bridges consideringboth objective statistical data available in the agency database of railroad bridges management and subjective data obtained form interviews with experts of the railway agency, which are used to anew uncertainty-based expected maintenance/repair costs including lifetime indirect costs. For reliable assessment of the life-cycle maintenance/repair costs, statistical analysis considering maintenance history data and survey data including the subjective judgments of railway experts on maintenance/management of railroad bridges, are performed to categorize critical maintenance items and associated expected costs and uncertainty-based deterioration models are developed. Finally, the formulation for simulation-based LCC analysis of railway bridges with uncertainty-based deterioration models are applied to the design-decision problem, which is to select an optimal bridge type having minimum Life-Cycle cost among various railway bridges types such as steel plate girder bridge, and prestressed concrete girder bridge in the basic design phase.
