Analysis of Propagation Characteristics according to the Change of Transmitter-Receiver Location in Indoor Environment (실내 환경에서 송수신기 위치 변화에 따른 전파 전달 특성 분석)

  • The radio wave propagation characteristics of the transmitter and receiver position change in the indoor environment were predicted through simulation, then the results obtained through the transmission loss measurement were compared and analyzed with the simulation results. The conference room was chosen as the environment for measuring transmission loss, and the radio transmission characteristics of the two environments were compared by selecting the exhibition hall without interior decorations and fixtures. In each indoor environment, the position of the transmitter chose two cases. One located in the center of the front wall and the other in the center of the side wall, and the position of the receiver moved along the centerline of the conference room and the side wall, measuring the receiving power. For each change in transmitter-receiver position, received power of 3GHz and 6GHz band were measured and compared with the simulation forecast results. The changes in received power at each receiving point were analyzed according to the location of the transmitter and the frequency band variation.

  • This paper studies a convenient electromagnetic field (EMF) compliance assessment for base station installations at a millimeter wave (mmW) frequency. We utilize ray-tracing analysis as a numerical method for examining the wave propagation characteristic. Various installation cases are considered and the important parameters with a significant effect on the maximum power density levels are produced. We finally suggest the several scenarios for the convenient assessment of mmW base stations, which allow us to conduct cost effective computational tests compared with the current assessment procedure in the guideline.

Performance Characteristic of satellite Wibro system in the high-speed Railroad Channel Environment

  • In this paper, we describe the performance degradation of satellite Wibro system and compensation method in the high-speed railroad channel environment. High-speed railroad channel environment is divided into LOS channel and tunnel. In the LOS channel, signal blocking caused by railroad power feeder structures can be a critical problem which is can be solved with antenna diversity. On the other hand, multi path interference phenomenon, representable by propagation model of Optic Fiber, occurred in the tunnel may be another obstacle. These satellite Wibro system performance degradations in railroad channel environment are addressed and adequate compensation methods are proposed and verified through computer simulation. In addition, the ICI caused by Doppler shift in OFDM system is analyzed with its compensation method.

  • In ocean field, the spread of the Fourth Industrial Revolution based on information and communication technology requires high precision and stable PNT&D (Position, Navigation, Timing and Data). As the IMO (International Maritime Organization) and IALA (The International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities) are requiring backup systems due to mitigate vulnerabilities and the increase of dependency on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), Korea is conducting a research & development of R-Mode. An DGPS (Differentiate Global Positioning System) reference station that uses MF, an existing maritime infrastructure, and AIS (Automatic Identification System) base stations that use 34 integrity station and VHF will be utilized in this study to avoid redundant investment. Because there are radio shadow areas that display low signal levels in the west sea, the establishment of new R-Mode reference and integrity station will be intended to resolve problems regrading the radio shadow area. Because the frequency has a characteristic in that radio wave transmits well along the ground (water surface) in low frequency band, simulation and measurement were conducted therefore this paper to propose candidate sites for R-Mode reference and integrity station resulted through p wave's propagation characteristics analysis. Using this paper, R-Mode reference and integrity station can be established at appropriate locations to resolve radio shadow areas in other regions.

Study on Bandwidth and Characteristic Impedance of CWP3DCS (Coplanar Waveguide Employing Periodic 3D Coupling Structures) for the Development of a Radio Communication FISoC (Fully-integrated System on Chip) Semiconductor Device (완전집적형 무선통신 SoC 반도체 소자 개발을 위한 주기적인 3차원 결합구조를 가지는 코프레너 선로에 대한 대역폭 및 임피던스 특성연구)

  • In this study, we investigated the characteristic impedance and bandwidth of CPW3DCS (coplanar waveguide employing periodic 3D coupling structures), and examined its potential for the development of a marine radio communication FISoC (fully-integrated system on chip) semiconductor device. To extract bandwidth and characteristic impedance of the CPW3DC, we induced a measurement-based equation reflecting measured insertion loss, and compared the measured results of the propagation constant β and characteristic impedance with the measured ones. According to the results of the comparison, the calculated results show a good agreement with the measured ones. Concretely, the propagation constant β and characteristic impedance exhibited an maximum error of 3.9% and 6.4%, respectively. According to the results of this study, in a range of LT = 30 ~ 150 ㎛ for the length of periodic structures, the CPW3DC exhibited a passband characteristic of 121 GHz, and a very small dependency of characteristic impedance on frequency. We could realize a low impedance transmission line with a characteristic impedance lower than 20 Ω by using CPW3DCS with a line width of 20 ㎛, which was highly reduced, compared with a 3mm line width of conventional transmission line with the same impedance. The characteristic impedance was easily adjusted by changing LT. The above results indicate that the CPW3DC can be usefully used for the development of a wireless communication FISoC (fully-integrated system on chip) semiconductor device. This is the first report of a study on the bandwidth of the CPW3DC.

Integrative Modeling of Wireless RF Links for Train-to-Wayside Communication in Railway Tunnel

  • In railway tunnel environment, the reliability of a high-data-rate and real-time train-to-wayside communication should be maintained especially when high-speed train moves along the track. In China and Europe, the communication frequency around 900 MHz is widely used for railway applications. At this carrier frequency band, both of the solutions based on continuously laid leaky coaxial cable (LCX) and discretely installed base-station antennas (BSAs), are applied in tunnel radio coverage. Many available works have concentrated on the radio-wave propagation in tunnels by different kinds of prediction models. Most of them solve this problem as natural propagation in a relatively large hollow waveguide, by neglecting the transmitting/receiving (Tx/Rx) components. However, within such confined areas like railway tunnels especially loaded with train, the complex communication environment becomes an important factor that would affect the quality of the signal transmission. This paper will apply a full-wave numerical method to this case, for considering the BSA or LCX, train antennas and their interacted environments, such as the locomotive body, overhead line for power supply, locomotive pantograph, steel rails, ballastless track, tunnel walls, etc.. Involving finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and uni-axial anisotropic perfectly matched layer (UPML) technique, the entire wireless RF downlinks of BSA and LCX to tunnel space to train antenna are precisely modeled (so-called integrative modeling technique, IMT). When exciting the BSA and LCX separately, the field distributions of some cross-sections in a rectangular tunnel are presented. It can be found that the influence of the locomotive body and other tunnel environments is very significant. The field coverage on the locomotive roof plane where the train antennas mounted, seems more homogenous when the side-laying position of the BSA or LCX is much higher. Also, much smoother field coverage solution is achieved by choosing LCX for its characteristic of more homogenous electromagnetic wave radiation.

  • It is important to know how well observation errors are removed in the calibration process prior to ensuing scientific research. In mm-VLBI observations, a radio wave suffers from an atmospheric propagation delay due to the rapid change of atmospheric refraction. It makes phases of VLBI correlation output fluctuate rapidly, which essentially decreases the coherence of phases and reduces the integration time. Consequently, it is challenging to achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio and enhance the quality of scientific output. Among the causes of the atmospheric propagation delay, water vapor in the troposphere is the most decisive factor to affect phase errors in the high frequency range (> 10GHz). It is expected to have the non-dispersive characteristic that enables to introduce new calibration strategy, Frequency Phase Transfer (FPT). This new method utilizes low frequency phases to compensate phase errors in high frequency bands. In addition, Korean VLBI Network (KVN) which benefits from the simultaneous 4-channels (22/43/86/129 GHz) observations is ideal to probe FPT performance. In order to evaluate FPT performance of KVN, we present the results of FPT phase analysis and discuss its performance.

  • With the rapid and wide-spread use of mobile communications much attention has been focussed on propagation in the urban area crowed with buildings. It is often surrounded by hills, forests, and mountains. The importance of surface scattering interference between transmitters and receivers on the rough surfaces has been interested and investigated. Therefore, a prediction method is necessary to estimate the influence of rough surfaces on microwave radio propagation. Moreover, most of the mobile communications are performed based on the digital communication system rather than the analog one. In this case, we must pay more careful attention to the signal delay caused by the phase delay due to the multi-path propagation. In this paper we have analyzed numerically scattering of electromagnetic waves from Composite structures by using FVTD (Finite Volume Time Domain) method. We consider two different types of rough surfaces such as periodic and composite structures.

  • In this paper, an adaptive power control algorithm in the DS/CDMA system is proposed. The currently used transmitter/receiver based on IS-95 and the radio propagation channel under mobile communication environments are modeled. Theses are the key features for the simulation to analyse the performance of power control. the distribution of the received SIR(signal to interference ratio)and the bit error probability are the required parameters for the performance analysis. Furthermore the influence of the power control command error on the above parameters are analyzed. By using the performance analysis of IS-95 and the occurrence of burst errors that is characteristic for wireless channels. the new power control algorithm is proposed. The proposed power control algorithm increases the SIR which results in a better service quality and an enhancement in the system capacity.

Accuracy of the Position Fix and the Propagational Characteristic of Omega Radio Wave at Busan (부산지방에서의 오메가전파의 전파특성과 측정위치의 정도에 관하여)

  • Accuracy of the position fix obtained by navigation with Omega in the capacity of worldwide navigation depends on the predicted propagation correction. The authors observe continuously the phase differences of the A-C pair and the A-E pair from April 17 to October 14, 1980, at Busan(35\ulcorner07'. 9N, 129\ulcorner06'. 3E), and analyze the characteristic of daily variation the relation between the theoretical PPC and the measu red PPC to study the accuracy of the position fix. The results are as follows: 1. The results of fourier's analysis for the theoretical PPC and the measured PPC are positive correlation in the coefficients ao, a2, a3 with A-C pair and in the coefficients aO-a3 with A-E pair, and those PPC are apparent to daily periodicity during all measured time. The initial phase is around to 280\ulcorner with A-C pair and 1800 with A-E pair. 2. Daily variatons of the phase difference tend to decrease and the time width to narrow from April toward July, but these variations are opposed to those from July toward October. 3. Mean value of total errors of the position fix by theoretical PPC is 2.67 miles and its standard deviationis O.90miles. 4. Mean value of total errors of the position fix by the measured PPC is 0.63 miles and its standard deviation is 0.217 miles.
