  • In the naval environment, a naval radar has many obstructions of velocity, such as rotation and velocity of ship. In the common situation, the rotations such as roll, pitch and yaw don't influence the velocity of the target. But because the naval radar is located on the top of the mast, there is some influence to the target velocity. When we trace the target, radar controller doesn't use hits whose doppler banks are zero. So, we must compensate the target velocity for the velocity error. This paper suggests a method of velocity compensation of target by the velocity vector and how to apply to the stack beam radar if we don't know the height of the target.

  • Simulated target generators are used to evaluate the various radar performance. Using the radar parameters such as target range(time delay), doppler frequency, target RCS, simulated target generator can be developed. Especially moving targets are simulated by control time delay and update target signal intensive for target range. Base on this concepts, in this paper, simulated target generators are designed and developed for X-band Radar performance test. Developed equipment is evaluated its performance and then tested with X-band Radar. This paper presents these design, development, and test results of developed target generator.

  • This paper proposes a design and fabrication of the test equipment that is implemented as a part of the airborne tracking radar inspection under the environment of indoor simulation. This test equipment provides controlling the operation status of airborne tracking radar and replicating the velocity and range information of target by generating a variety of target signal. This is mainly composed of radar operation controller, target signal generator, horn antenna driving devices. Radar operation controller is able to perform the controlling of radar operation mode and monitoring in real time by serial communication. Target signal generator is generated doppler signal and range delayed signal using virtual target of RF-band. Horn antenna driving devices perform a role of target simulating exercise. In the end, the performance is demonstrated using experiment results of test equipment for airborne tracking radar.

  • One-dimensional radar signature, such as range profile, is highly dependent on the aspect angle. Therefore, radar target recognition over wide angular region is a very difficult task. In this paper, we propose the Bayes classifier with Gaussian mixture model for radar target recognition over wide-angular region and compare performances of proposed technique and radar target recognition with subclasses concept in the literature of probability of correct classification ratio.

  • A development of a software on radar target signature analysis is presented in this paper The target signature includes Radar Cross Section(RCS) prediction, Range Profile(RP) processing and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar(ISAR) processing. Physical Optics(PO) is the basic calculation method for RCS prediction and Geometrical Optics(GO) is used for ray tracing in the field calculation of multiple reflection. For RP and ISAR, Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and Matrix Pencil(MP) method were implemented for post-processing. Those results are integrated into two separate softwares named as Radar Target Signature Generator(RTSG) and Radar Target Signature Analyser(RTSA). Several test results show good performances in radar signature prediction and analysis.

  • To detect targets for autonomous navigation of unmanned ground vehicle, mounted sensors are required to work all-weather condition. In this point of view, the FMCW radar is quietly appropriate. In this paper, we present development results of target signal simulator for multi-beam type FMCW radar. A target signal simulator make pseudo target signals which simulates multiple moving targets. And we describe how to make hit information for each target in multi-beam type radar. The developed methods are utilized for target tracking device. Moreover it can be applied to similar target signal simulator.

  • The virtual target signal generator was developed to verify the shipborne tracking radar performance. It was used to DRFM(Digital RF Memory) method to generate the virtual moving targets. The target signal includes Doppler shift and RCS according to the target motion. And the signal generator can make jamming signal and clutter to test shipborne radar performance at real environmental condition. This paper described the functional diagram and the hardware configuration items to meet the test requirements for the tracking radar. And it showed the critical design points for the sub-systems. The signal generator which was developed in this paper shared the operational information of the radar with the radar command and control part. To test the frequency agility of the radar, it had the local oscillator which could do high speed frequency switching according to radar information. By communicating between the signal generator and the radar command and control part, the local oscillator of signal generator could be controlled every pulse. It reduced the instantaneous bandwidth of signal generator and minimized the spurious. So it lowered the probability of generating wrong targets.

  • The multibeam surveillance radar is a state-of-art of 3D radar technology. It applies the stacked beam-on-received realized by a digital beamformer. In this paper, a method of a low target altitude extraction for multibeam surveillance radar in multipath environmental condition is proposed and investigated. The model of multipath propagation and radar generation produced from the low altitude target in multibeam surveillance radar and the nelder-mead simplex multipath reduction(NMSMR) method which enables a reliable low altitude target extraction in specular reflection situations are described. The proposed algorithm is simulated to confirm the effectiveness of proposed algorithm in accordance with a various of target altitudes and radar frequencies.

  • North Korea has various ballistic missiles from short range to long range such as inter continental ballistic missiles. Short range ballistic missiles such as SCUD series are threatening to Korea peninsula. Therefore Korea is constructing various missile defense systems to protect country. Parameters influencing the received power from the target to the radar are transmitting power, antenna gain, carrier frequency, RCS(Radar Cross Section) of target and distance from radar to target. Especially, RCS and distance from target are not radar performance defined parameters but external parameters. Therefore radar deployment position that large RCS can be observed and target to radar distance should be considered in parallel to improve target detection probability. In this paper, RCS pattern of SCUD-B ballistic missile is calculated, received power is analyzed based on radar deployment position during ballistic missile trajectory and methode for optimum radar deployment position to improve target detection probability is suggested.

  • Simulative target generators are needed for testing and calibrating various radar systems. The generator in this study discriminates the transmitting frequency from a radar and simulates parameters like target range, range rate, and atmospheric attenuation using the digital RF memory technique. The simulative target echo is then sent to the radar for testing and evaluation. This paper proposes a novel architecture for controlling the digital RF memory so it continually writes ADC data to the memory and reads it for the DAC with increasing one step address in order to control the delay of target range in a simple way. The target echo is programmed according to various preprogrammed scenarios and is generated in real time using a wireless local area network (LAN). To analyze the detected and generated target information easily, the system times for the radar and simulative target generator are synchronized using a global positioning system (GPS).
