Evaluation of turbulence models in rough-wall boundary layers for hydroelectric applications

  • The accuracy of turbulence models for the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations in rough-wall flows is evaluated using data from large-eddy simulations (LES) of boundary layers with favourable and adverse pressure gradients. Some features of the flow (such as flow reversal in the roughness sublayer) cannot be captured accurately by any model, due to the fundamental model formulation. In mild pressure gradients most RANS models are sufficiently accurate for engineering applications, but if strong favourable or adverse pressure gradients are applied (especially those leading to separation) the model performance rapidly degrades.

  • The change of consumers' lifestyles causes frequent study on beds along with growth of economy, improvement of education and increase of dwelling in new towns and nuclear family. Beds are frequently developed in recent years since consumers' lifestyles increasingly change caused by transformation of types of dwelling, influence of western lifestyle, and increase uses of a bed. Also, this transformation causes needs for research on bed designs. A Bed is an essential item in a life since people spend one third of a day in Also, in contemporary, the ages of consumers are varied from infants to seniors. The study examines the importance of beds which playa major role in households. Moreover, the purpose of this study of beds focused on surface materials, colors, and designs is suggesting bases for future developments.

  • In recent years, the influences of Korean fashion industry have slowly declined and numerous clothing-associated industry have come to be bankrupt, due to a national economic crisis. The purpose of this thesis is how to find the way of activating our fashion industry, by reviewing the accomplishments of British young designers, who are contributors to the present peak activities of British fashion. Some results come over this depressive state of Korean fashion might be proposed. Firstly, Korean government should try to direct the Korean fashion associated group to make the unified and effective results in an organized way. Secondly, Korean fashion industries and university-level fashion school should have more intimate relationship and be closely communicated with each other. Thirdly, the designers should do effort to have the highest tailoring technique and artistic good sense. In conclusion, the government, university-level fashion schools, fashion industries and fashion designers should be positively changed and cooperated to do the best and activate Korean fashion.

Optimization of Unequal Error Protection Rateless Codes for Multimedia Multicasting

  • Rateless codes have been shown to be able to provide greater flexibility and efficiency than fixed-rate codes for multicast applications. In the following, we optimize rateless codes for unequal error protection (UEP) for multimedia multicasting to a set of heterogeneous users. The proposed designs have the objectives of providing either guaranteed or best-effort quality of service (QoS). A randomly interleaved rateless encoder is proposed whereby users only need to decode symbols up to their own QoS level. The proposed coder is optimized based on measured transmission properties of standardized raptor codes over wireless channels. It is shown that a guaranteed QoS problem formulation can be transformed into a convex optimization problem, yielding a globally optimal solution. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed optimized random interleaved UEP rateless coder's performance compares favorably with that of other recently proposed UEP rateless codes.

  • Canada British Columbia 주의 Prince Rupert 와 Port Hardy(503km) 를 1주일에 2회 왕복하던 Queen of the North 호가 2006년 3월 22일 Gill Island 북쪽 해상에서 좌초되었다. 사고 후, 선박에 탑재된 Electronic Chart System(ECS)을 수거하여 선박의 항해자료를 회수키로하고, 2006년 6월 15일 해양탐사로봇을 이용하여 해저 약 453m 지점에 착저된 선박으로부터 ECS 컴퓨터를 수거하였고 Maker인 Transas사는 수거된 ECS의 Data를 복원하여 선주사에 재공하였다. 이에 따라 캐나다 교통안전국 (Transportation Safety Board of Canada)는 재현 결과물을 통하여 사고원인을 규명한 사건이다.
