;The growth of films have considerable interest in the field of superlattice structured multi-layer epitaxy led to realization of new devices concepts. Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) with in situ observation by reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) is a key technology for controlled layered growth on the atomic scale in oxide crystal thin films. Also, the combination of radical oxygen source and MBE will certainly accelerate the progress of applications of oxides. In this study, the growth process of single crystal films using by MBE method is discussed taking the oxide materials of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu family. Oxidation was provided by a flux density of activated oxygen (oxygen radicals) from an rf-excited discharge. Generation of oxygen radicals is obtained in a specially designed radical sources with different types (coil and electrode types). Molecular oxygen was introduced into a quartz tube through a variable leak valve with mass flowmeter. Corresponding to the oxygen flow rate, the pressure of the system ranged from $1{\;}{\times}{\;}10^{-6}{\;}Torr{\;}to{\;}5{\;}{\times}{\;}10^{-5}$ Torr. The base pressure was $1{\;}{\times}{\;}10^{-10}$ Torr. The growth of Bi-oxides was achieved by coevaporation of metal elements and oxygen. In this way a Bi-oxide multilayer structure was prepared on a basal-plane MgO or $SrTiO_3$ substrate. The grown films compiled using RHEED patterns during and after the growth. Futher, the exact observation of oxygen radicals with MBE is an important technology for a approach of growth conditions on stoichiometry and perfection on the atomic scale in oxide. The oxidization degree, which is determined and controlled by the number of activated oxygen when using radical sources of two types, are utilized by voltage locked loop (VLL) method. Coil type is suitable for oxygen radical source than electrode type. The relationship between the flux of oxygen radical and the rf power or oxygen partial pressure estimated. The flux of radicals increases as the rf power increases, and indicates to the frequency change having the the value of about $2{\times}10^{14}{\;}atoms{\;}{\cdots}{\;}cm^{-2}{\;}{\cdots}{\;}S^{-I}$ when the oxygen flow rate of 2.0 seem and rf power 150 W.150 W.
Using SHS(Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis) method, the optimum synthetic condition of titanium carbonitride was established by controlling the parameters such as relative density of mixture (Ti+C), nitrogen pressure, additive amounts of titanium hydride(TiH1.924) and protecting heat loss. Under 1 atm nitrogen pressure, nitridation ratio with changing relative density of the sample compacts has a maximum (87.2%) at about 55%, and in the case of enveloping the pellet with a quartz tube, the highest nitridation ratio of 90% was obtained at about 68%. At relative density of 55%, nitridation ratio with the nitrogen pressure has a miximum (87.3%) at 7 atm. As the amounts of additive titanium hydride increased, nitridation ratio decreased at below 7 atm nitrogen pressure and, increased at above this pressure until percent of addition percent reached 15 wt% and decreased abruptly upon futher increases in titanium hydride. In the synthesis of TiCxNy by combustion reaction, heat transfer from combustion zone to preheating zone and nitrogen gas penetration into the compact were found to be important factors affecting the TiCxNy formation. It was difficult to obtain high nitridation ratio when the conbustion temperature was either too high or too low, and it seems that the retention of high temperature after a combustion wave sweeped through the reactant mixture pellet is critical to obtain a satisfactory nitridation ratio.
The purpose of this research was th evaluate conductivity of electricity of Ge-Se-Bi system Chalcogenide glass as a amorphous semiconductor by observing its dissolution and crystallization. In this experiment. Ge-Se-Bi metal powder in the rage of $Ge_{12-25}$, $Se_{65-85}$, $Bi_{2.5-15}$ was used as the sample ore. The ore was. put into a vaccous quartz tube and then melted. The condition of heat treatment was to dispose it to $1000^{\circ}C$ heat for 10 hours and then rapidly quenched it at $3834^{\circ}C$/see. The crystallization of the fused sample ripened as the change of temperature and time, after the crystal core was formell. At that time it was possible to observe the state that $Bi_2Se_3$ and $GeSe_2$ were crystallized. In the experiment of making memberance, the memberance was produced by using the previously experimented bulk sample. And decrystalization was well progressed when Ge was over 15 at %, Se was over 70 at %, and Bi was under 10 at%. As for bulk. when Ge was fixed to 20 at %, the conducting of electricity was increased as Bi gained at %. In the case of memberance, the conductivity was much more increased than that of bulk sample as the increase of at the increase of at % of Bi. In the experiment on $Ge_{20}$, $Se_{77.5}$ and $Bi_{2.5}$, the crystallization sswas most vigorous when they were kept at $330^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours.

The multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) with graphite crystal structure were synthesized by the catalytic decomposition of a ferrocene-xylene mixture in a quartz tube reactor to use as the conductive filler in the binary polymer matrix composed of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) for the EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding applications. The yield of MWNTS was significantly dependent on the reaction temperature and the mole ratio of ferrocene to xylene, approaching to the maximum at 800 $^{\circ}C$ and 0.065 mole ratio. The electrical conductivity of the MWNTs-filled PVdF/PVP composite proportionally depended on the mass ratio of MWNTs to the binary polymer matrix, enhancing significantly from 0.56 to 26.7 S/cm with the raise of the mass ratio of MWNTs from 0.1 to 0.4. Based on the higher electrical conductivity and better EMI shielding effectiveness than the carbon nanofibers (CNFs)-filled coating materials, the MWNTs-filled binary polymer matrix showed a prospective possibility to apply to the EMI shielding materials. Moreover, the good adhesive strength confirmed that the binary polymer matrix could be used for improving the plastic properties of the EMI shielding materials.
$^{13}C$ NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) measurements have been performed to investigate the local electronic structure of a superconducting graphite intercalation compound $CaC_6$ ($T_c$ = 11.4 K). A large number of single crystals were stacked and sealed in a quartz tube for naturally abundant $^{13}C$ NMR. The spectrum, Knight shift, linewidth, and spin-lattice relaxation time $T_1$ were measured in the normal state as a function of temperature down to 80 K at 8.0 T perpendicular to the c-axis. The $^{13}C$ NMR spectrum shows a single narrow peak with a very small Knight shift. The Knight shift and the linewidth of the $^{13}C$ NMR are temperature-independent around, respectively, +0.012% and 1.2 kHz. The spin-lattice relaxation rate, $1/T_1$, is proportional to temperature confirming a Korringa behavior as for non-magnetic metals. The Korringa product is measured to be $T_1T\;=\;210\;s{\cdot}K$. From this value, the Korringa ratio is deduced to be $\xi$ = 0.73, close to unity, which suggests that the independent-electron description works well for $CaC_6$, without complications arising from correlation and many-body effects.
Heterostructures has unique and important properties, which may be helpful for finding many potential applications in the field of electronic, thermoelectric, and optoelectronic devices. We synthesized CdTe/Te core-shell heterostructures by vapor-solid process at low temperatures using a quartz tube furnace. Two step vapor-solid processes were employed. First, various tellurium structures such as nanowires, nanorods, nanoneedles, microtubes and microrods were synthesized under various deposition conditions. These tellurium nanostructures were then used as substrates in the second step to synthesize the CdTe/Te core-shell heterostructures. Using this method, various sizes, shapes and types of CdTe/Te core-shell structures were fabricated under a range of conditions. These structures were analysed by scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. The vapor phase process at low temperatures appears to be an efficient method for producing a variety of Cd/Te hetero-nanostructures. In addition, the hetero-nanostructures can be tailored to the needs of specific applications by deliberately controlling the synthetic parameters.
In order to investigate the microstructural morphology of the sulfide expected from the Fe-FeS phase diagram, a vacuum-sealed quartz tube where pure iron (99.9%) and sulfur (99.99%) powders were charged was heated upto $1000^{\circ}C$ in the electric resistance furnace, held for 96 hours and quenched in cold water and then, rod specimen was produced. Compositional difference of the sulfur between upper and lower parts of the rod was 7.5wt.% and segregation of the sulfur was gradually increased from the lower part to the upper one of the rod. The rod specimen was divided into three parts by the microstructural morphology of the sulfide. The upper part of the rod specimen revealed single phase FeS intermetallic. In the middle part of the specimen, hyper-eutectic microstructure where primary FeS was precipitated first and then, eutectic of $\alpha$-Fe and FeS was formed in the inter-dendritic region of the FeS. Especially, hypo-eutectic microstructure was appeared in the lower part of the specimen. After primary dendrite of $\alpha$-Fe solidified, FeS dendrite which included small amount of $\alpha$-Fe and FeS eutectic in the inter-dendritic region was formed.
Large-area RF-driven ion source is being developed at Germany for the heating and current drive of ITER plasmas. Negative hydrogen (deuterium) ion sources are major components of neutral beam injection systems in future large-scale fusion experiments such as ITER and DEMO. RF ion sources for the production of positive hydrogen ions have been successfully developed at IPP (Max-Planck- Institute for Plasma Physics, Garching) for ASDEX-U and W7-AS neutral beam injection (NBI) systems. In recent, the first NBI system (NBI-1) has been developed successfully for the KSTAR. The first and second long-pulse ion sources (LPIS-1 and LPIS-2) of NBI-1 system consist of a magnetic bucket plasma generator with multi-pole cusp fields, filament heating structure, and a set of tetrode accelerators with circular apertures. There is a development plan of large-area RF ion source at KAERI to extract the positive ions, which can be used for the second NBI (NBI-2) system of KSTAR, and to extract the negative ions for future fusion devices such as ITER and K-DEMO. The large-area RF ion source consists of a driver region, including a helical antenna (6-turn copper tube with an outer diameter of 6 mm) and a discharge chamber (ceramic and/or quartz tubes with an inner diameter of 200 mm, a height of 150 mm, and a thickness of 8 mm), and an expansion region (magnetic bucket of prototype LPIS in the KAERI). RF power can be transferred up to 10 kW with a fixed frequency of 2 MHz through a matching circuit (auto- and manual-matching apparatus). Argon gas is commonly injected to the initial ignition of RF plasma discharge, and then hydrogen gas instead of argon gas is finally injected for the RF plasma sustainment. The uniformities of plasma density and electron temperature at the lowest area of expansion region (a distance of 300 mm from the driver region) are measured by using two electrostatic probes in the directions of short- and long-dimension of expansion region.
