  • This paper provides a test of the composite hypothesis that a random sample is (two parameter) gamma distributed when both the scale and shape parameters are estimated from the data. The test statistic is a variant of the usual Anderson-Darling statistic, the primary difference being that the statistic is based on the maximum likelihood estimator of the shape parameter of the assumed gamma distribution. The percentage points are developed via simulation and are presented graphically. Examples are provided.

  • This paper deals with the estimation of the Weibull parameters, which have a close relation with product reliability characteristics. Among the many kinds of estimation methods, Ishikawa's Weibull Probability Paper (WPP) is commonly used. The WPP is very convenient, but it has a great disadvantage in estimation accuracy by plotting method. It is very difficult to get the same results even if one use the same data several times. A computer program for the regression method is used for the parameter estimation to reduce these errors.

  • When designing the parameter on the multiple quality characteristics, there has been a study for optimization of problems, but there has been few former study on the possible conflicting phenomena in consideration of the correlations among the characteristics. To solve the issue on the optimal design for multiple quality characteristics, this study modelled the expected loss function with cross-product terms among the characteristics and derived range of the coefficients of the terms. The model will be used to determine the global optimal design parameters where there exists the conflict among the characteristics, which shows difference in optimal design parameters for the individual characteristics.

  • This paper deals with the method of determining the drag of hull surface which has any quality of roughness. The method consists mainly of the theoretical point of view, then the theory enables the drag coefficient to be calculated at full scale. The hydrodynamical roughness function of hull surface ${\triangle}U_+$, affected by the hull roughness are considered as to two cases, smooth surface and rough surface case separately. The inadequacy of a single parameter to define hull roughness is discussed and thus an as additional texture parameter is proposed.

  • Taguchi's parameter design seeks proper choice of levels of controllable factors (Parameters in Taguchi's terminology) that makes the qualify characteristic of a product optimal while making its variability small. This aim can be achieved by response surface techniques that allow flexibility in modeling and analysis. In this article, a collection of response surface modeling and analysis techniques is proposed to deal with the multiresponse optimization problem in experimentation with Taguchi's signal and noise factors.

  • Parameter design is an approach to reducing performance variation of quality characteristic value in products and processes. Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise ratio to achieve the appropriate set of operating conditions where variability around target is low in the Taguchi parameter design. However, there are difficulties in practical application, such as complexity and nonlinear relationships among quality characteristics and control factors (design factors), and interactions occurred among control factors. Neural networks have a learning capability and model free characteristics. There characteristics support neural networks as a competitive tool in processing multivariable input-output implementation. In this paper we propose a substantially simpler optimization procedure for parameter design using neural network. An example is illustrated to compare the difference between the Taguchi method and neural network method.

  • This study intends to provide the necessary basic data needed for predicting the water quality and examining changes in water quality on the basis of the hydrological changes: an outflow or the character of a flow by investigating the interaction of the parameters through the estimation of optimal parameters need for predicting the water quality of the dam basin and the sensitivity among those estimated parameters. Im-Ha Dam in the upstream area of the Nakdong River was selected for analysis, and the water quality survey data necessary for parameter estimation was based on the monthly water quality data (water temperature, BOD, T-N and T-P) between December 1, $2005{\sim}$November 31, 2006. K1C(the saturated growth rate of plant plankton), K1RC (endogenous respiratory quotient of plankton), KDC(deoxidized ratio), K71C(minealized ratio of dissolved organic phosphorus), K83C(mineralized ratio of dissolved organic nitrogen) have been considered as the factors of the water quality performed in this water quality simulation, that is, the most effective parameters on BOD, T-N and T-P. In the result of the analysis of the sensitivity, KDC(deoxidized ratio) was the most sensitively reacted parameter on BOD and it was K71C(mineralized ratio of dissolved organic phosphorus) and K83C(mineralized ratio of dissolved organic nitrogen) on T-N and T-P. It is considered that it will be possible to apply the most optimal parameter to an analysis of the water quality simulation at Im-Ha Ho basin in the goal year by examining the interaction of the parameters through the parameters sampling which are able to applicable to prediction of the water quality and the analysis of the its sensitivity, in the future, also the analysis on the basis of the hydrological conditions: an outflow or the character of a flow will be needed.

  • The objective of the study is to analyze the relative performance of factors affecting indoor air quality in multi-residential buildings in Korea. A study of the factors affecting indoor air quality is essential for establishing indoor air quality management strategies effectively. To observe the indoor air quality response following a modification of a given parameter, a sensitivity analysis was performed. The factors examined for the analysis include; wall/ceiling paper, adhesive for wall/ceiling paper, floor material, adhesive for floor material, and ventilation rate. The Experimental Design which identifies main effects among the design parameters with a few experiments was used to decrease the number of experiments. The simulation for indoor air quality was undertaken using a validated equation. Then, ANOVA(Analysis of Variance) was performed to evaluate the relative importance of each parameter affecting the indoor air quality. The result of the study indicates that the indoor air quality may be influenced most by adhesive for wall/ceiling paper, followed by ventilation rate and adhesive for floor material.
