  • Data collection is an essential element in the construction and operation of a smart factory. The quality of data collection is greatly influenced by network conditions, and existing wireless network systems for IoT inevitably lose data due to wireless signal strength. This data loss has contributed to increased system instability due to misinformation based on incorrect data. In this study, I designed a distributed MQTT IoT smart sensor and gateway structure that supports wireless multicasting for smooth sensor data collection. Through this, it was possible to derive significant results in the service latency and data loss rate of packets even in a wireless environment, unlike the MQTT QoS-based system. Therefore, through this study, it will be possible to implement a data collection management system optimized for the domestic smart factory manufacturing environment that can prevent data loss and delay due to abnormal data generation and minimize the input of management personnel.

  • In order to manage a large number of devices connected to the Internet of Things (IoT), the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) proposed the IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL). The route of the RPL network is generated through the use of an Objective Function (OF) that is suitable for the service that is required for the IoT network. Since the route of the RPL network is conventionally simply chosen only by considering the link quality between the nodes, it is sensible to seek an OF that can also provide better Quality of Service (QoS). In previous studies, the end-to-end delay might possibly be sub-optimal because they only deal with problems related to the reduction of energy consumption and not to the link quality on the path to the sink node. In this study, we propose a scheme that reduces the end-to-end delay but also gives full consideration to both the quality on the entire route to the destination and to the expected lifetime of nodes with bottlenecks from heaped traffic. Weighting factors for the proposed scheme are chosen by experiments and the proposed scheme can reduce the end-to-end delay and the energy consumption of previous studies by 20.8% and 10.5%, respectively.

  • ETF made the RFCs of MPLS technologies for providing the QoS of ATM or Frame Relay and the flexibility&scalability of IP on the Internet services. IETF has been expanding MPLS technologies as a common control component for supporting the various switching technologies called GMPLS. Also, IETF has standardized the signaling protocols based on such technologies, such as LDP, CR-LDP and RSVP-TE. ETRI developed the MPLS system based on ATM switch in order to provide more reliable services, differentiated services and value-added services like the VPN and traffic engineering service on the Korea Public Sector network. We are planning on deploying model services and commercial services on that network. This paper explains the basic functions of LDP, design and development of LDP on our system, and compares with LDP development and operation on other MPLS systems made by Cisco, Juniper, Nortel and Riverstone. In conclusion, this paper deduces the future services and applications by LDP through these explanation and comparison.

  • In order to provide new value-added services such as a policy-based routing and the quality of services in next generation network, the Internet routers need to classify packets into flows for different treatments, and it is called a packet classification. Since the packet classification should be performed in wire-speed for every packet incoming in several hundred giga-bits per second, the packet classification becomes a bottleneck in the Internet routers. Therefore, high speed packet classification algorithms are required. In this paper, we propose an efficient packet classification architecture based on a hierarchical binary search fee. The proposed architecture hierarchically connects the binary search tree which does not have empty nodes, and hence the proposed architecture reduces the memory requirement and improves the search performance.

  • In accordance with the development of information and communications technology, a network user has to be able to use quality of service (QoS)-based multimedia services easily. Thus, information and communications operators began to focus on a technique for providing multimedia services. The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a platform based on Internet Protocol (IP) as a technology for providing multimedia services and application services. The emerging 5G networks are described as having massive capacity and connectivity, adaptability, seamless heterogeneity, and great flexibility. The explosive growth in network services and devices for 5G will cause excessive traffic loads. In this paper, software-defined networking (SDN) is applied as a kind of virtualization technology for the network in order to minimize the traffic load, and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used to provide more efficient network management. To accomplish these purposes, we suggest the design of a dynamic routing algorithm to be utilized in the IMS network using SDN and an SNMP private management information base (MIB). The proposal in this paper gives information and communications operators the ability to supply more efficient network resources.

  • MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network)s have been researched primary at routing protocols and at the guarantees of QoS(Quality of Service) for mobile environments. Otherwise the Ubiquitous Sensor Networks (USNs) have some limitations in power energies and in processing of sensing data, as well as their network topologies are frequently changed by fading off and node failures. Thus we should redesign network protocols with concerning to energy efficiency for the USNs above all. In this paper, we focus on the protocol interface for managing for USNs based on the surveys. And then we figure the topology of USNs out and design the network protocol interface to make power saved, with data gathering and processing more efficient using our designed packet structures.

  • In order to reach Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency communication, one of 5G aims, Multi-access Edge Computing paradigm was born. The idea of this paradigm is to bring cloud computing technologies closer to the network edge. User services are hosted in multiple Edge Clouds, deployed at the edge of the network distributedly, to reduce the service latency. For mobile users, migrating their services to the most proper Edge Clouds for maintaining a Quality of Service is a non-convex problem. The service migration problem becomes more complex in high mobility scenarios. The goal of the study is to observe how user mobility affects the selection of Edge Cloud during a fixed mobility path. Mobility-Aware Service Migration (MASM) is proposed to optimize service migration based on two main parameters: routing cost and service migration cost, during a high mobility scenario. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with an existing greedy algorithm.

  • Packet classification is an important factor to support various services such as QoS guarantee and VPN for users in Internet. Packet classification is a searching process for best matching rule on rule tables by employing multi-field such as source address, protocol, and port number as well as destination address in If header. In this paper, we propose hardware based packet classification algorithm by employing tree bitmap of multi-bit trio. We divided prefixes of searching fields and rule into multi-bit stride, and perform a rule searching with multi-bit of fixed size. The proposed scheme can reduce the access times taking for rule search by employing indexing key in a fixed size of upper bits of rule prefixes. We also employ a marker prefixes in order to remove backtracking during searching a rule. In this paper, we generate two dimensional random rule set of source address and destination address using routing tables provided by IPMA Project, and compare its memory usages and performance.

  • Multi-hop networks are a low-setup-cost solution for enlarging an area of network coverage through multi-hop routing. Carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) is frequently used in multi-hop networks. Multi-hop networks face multiple problems, such as a rise in contention for the medium, and packet loss under heavy-load, saturated conditions, which consumes more bandwidth due to re-transmissions. The number of re-transmissions carried out in a multi-hop network plays a major role in the achievable quality of service (QoS). This paper presents a statistical, analytical model for the end-to-end delay of contention-based medium access control (MAC) strategies. These strategies schedule a packet before performing the back-off contention for both differentiated heterogeneous data and homogeneous data under saturation conditions. The analytical model is an application of Markov chain theory and queuing theory. The M/M/1 model is used to derive access queue waiting times, and an absorbing Markov chain is used to determine the expected number of re-transmissions in a multi-hop scenario. This is then used to calculate the expected end-to-end delay. The prediction by the proposed model is compared to the simulation results, and shows close correlation for the different test cases with different arrival rates.
