Naturopathic Effects of Arthritis, Frozen Shoulder and Lumbago Using the Qi-Therapy (관절염, 오십견 및 요통에 대한 기(氣)치유 효과)

  • Purpose: To investigate the healing effect of 21 patients with chronic back pain, shoulder pain, and knee arthritis by a Qigong. Methods: The study performed by hand injection of a Soojung Qi-therapy. Results: Ten patients (47.6%) had low back pain, eight (38%) had frozen shoulders, and three (14.3%) had knee arthritis. Satisfaction after five times of the Qi-healing was 72% in those who returned to normal and 14% in those who improved. When the maximum pain level set at 5.0, the difference between before and after healing was 3.33 in arthritis subjects, 3.75 in fifty shoulder subjects, and 3.80 in low back pain. In general, the degree of pain decreased as the number of healings increased. In particular, even after the first healing, the pain reduction of the subjects was high in arthritis, frozen shoulders, and low back pain. That is, there was a possibility of controlling pain with only one Qi-healing. Conclusions: Soojung Qi-therapy is one of the natural healing treatments because it reduces fast pains and accessible to handling anytime and anywhere. Conclusions: With Qi-therapy, arthritis, frozen shoulder, and lumbago patients almost recovered to their original shape. Therefore, Qi-therapy regarded as one of the useful natural healing therapies.

Purpose and Method : We have many difficulty of using the existing medical Hurbs based on the theory of Em-Yang and the five elements, this is why we still do not explain the Sasang Constitutional medical Hurb Classification and do not have the Sasang Constitutional Pharmacology exactly, so we easily enter into a dispute and confusion. So through literary consideration about Acorus gramineus Soland. I try to objectify Sasang Constitutional Classification of Acorus gramineus Soland and the spirit of using Acorus gramineus Soland and common property of Sasang Constitutional Medical Hurb and try to find out a clue that search the effect of other Sasang Constitutional Medical Hurb. 2. Result : Qi(氣) and mi(味) of Acorus gramineus Soland have aroma and hot taste and have won Qi(溫氣), the using portion of Acorus gramineus Soland is root as medical Hurb. So Acorus gramineus Soland rise from Goonghacho(中下焦) to Sangcho(上焦) and divied impurity and purity and able to remove the turbidity Qi(氣)Ack(液) Acorus gramineus Soland have the effect of progressing the involution of Paeqi(肺氣) and divided impurity and purity of Qi(氣) and ack(液) and improve the fuction and structure of Tae-Em-ln. I think that the method of literay consideration on objectification of Sasang Constitution Pharmacology is of great value.

Comparative Analysis on The Great Three Books of Oriental Medicines (한의약학(韓醫藥學)의 삼대원전(三大原典)에 대한 비교 분석)

  • In the Oriental Medicine field the great three reference books are Hwantienaekyung(黃帝內徑, HJNK), Sihnnongbonchokyung(神農本草經, BCK) and Shanghanlun(SHR). HJNK has been a theory book regarded as a bible of the Oriental Medicine, BCK, a herbal book with 365 species of red letters noticed from Bonchokyungjipjoo(本草經集註) and SHR, very important clinical book with concrete prescriptions for the therapy of patients. Though these books were written by Chinese people ca. 2000 years ago, yet they are no doubt very important and effective ones in these days. Unfortunately they are handed down to all transmitted books for a long times because original ones were destroyed by fire and another troubles. In this study we have tried to extract three common terminological words and common theories from the prescription law by theoretical principles(理法方藥, clinical therapeutic mechanism) acquired through the comparative analysis of these three books. They are qi(氣), cold or heat(寒熱) and yin & yang(陰陽), and their practical basic theories have been evidenced through exterior & interior of body(表裏) and deficiency or exessiveness(虛實) by the heat of Sun. Also we would have realized that Oriental Medicine should be analyzed through various scientific techniques and clinical experiences, and necessarily unified to yin & yang monism from qi theory of the Sun in all human's life cycle(生老病死).

A Study on the Excavated 『Liu Shi Bing Fang』 from the Lao Guan Shan Cemetery - focussed on Qi, Blood, and Attributive Channel Theory of Herbal Medicine - (노관산 한대 분묘 출토 의서 『육십병방(六十病方)』에 관한 고찰 - 기(氣), 혈(血), 본초 귀경(歸經)을 중심으로 -)

  • Objectives : To determine the level of medicine in the Earlier Han period through 『Liushi Bing Fang』. Methods : Original texts were collected from previously published studies on 『Liushi Bing Fang』 and books to reconstruct the text of 『Liushi Bing Fang』. Results & Conclusions : 151 tablets out of the entire 213, a total of 4,084 characters out of the entire 9,000 were collected. This amounts to about 45% of the entire 『Liushi Bing Fang』. Based on this finding, we could summarize the following. First, the concept of Qi is used in the context of illness, indicating the usage of Qi as a medical concept to be much earlier than previously known, as it appears in a herbal treatment text. Second, on Blood, similarly to 『Wushier Bing Fang』 and 『Wuwei Handai Yijian』, it refers to the physical blood as well as name of disease. Moreover, the concept of stagnated blood is mentioned as 'neiyu(內瘀)' in 『Liushi Bing Fang』, meaning that the doctors of the time held this concept and also had the medicinal knowledge to treat this condition. Third, within 『Liushi Bing Fang』, there are contents on the body parts each medicinal mainly treats. This indicates to the understanding that not only were they at the level to connect each medicinals to its mainly applicable disease, but they were able to connect the herbal medicinals to the inner constructions of the body. Based on these findings, the first text to provide the base to the attributive channel theory of herbal medicinals, where each medicinal's properties and effects are connected to the Zangfu and body parts, needs to be newly acknowledged as 『Liushi Bing Fang』 instead of 『Shennongbencaojing』 as previously known.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the food and nutritional value of based on the oriental Qi-flvor theory and to convergence understanding of dietary effects. In this study, dietary effect of Yulmubokyeoljuk based on oriental theory and analyzed the contents of general composition and minerals. We recognize the value as a food that can be used for therapy of Yulmubokyeoljuk. Phosphorus content was high and high calory foods. In addition, by discharging stagnant water in the spleen, excessive wetness is removed and the function of transportation of the spleen is strengthened. The results of this study suggest that it provided the basis of the characteristics of food and the necessity of convergence approach to dietary efficacy based on the traditional Qi-flvor theory and nutrional composition.

  • 1. Objective : The object of this thesis is to find the basis of Constitution assignment of Nogeun(蘆根, Phragmites communis Trin.) used to the medication for Taeyangin. Also, it is to recognize what kind of Constitution of Mogeun(茅根, Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii) is needed to be assigned to. 2. Methods "Dongyi Soose Bowon", 'SinchukBon', 'ChobonKwun', other related Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM) books, herbal medicine books such as "Boncho Kangmok", and etc. were compared and researched. 3. Results & Conclusions : 1) Nogeun(蘆根) lowers Qi and harmonizes the body. Because of the effect of lowering soar-Qi(氣), it used to treat the symptoms of Taeyangin's vomiting(噎膈反胃, Stomach reflux due to dysphagia-occlusion). Also Yuksoo Nogeun(逆水蘆恨, Reed growing near the river in low scream) is the basis of considering inhale-gathering Qi effect as a major indication of Nogeun. 2) The theory of classifying White Mogeun as a Tae-eumin Medicinal is based on the effect of Radiating while classifying White Mogeun as a Taeyangin Medicinal is based on the effect of treating stomach reflux(反胃). But both basis are not conclusive and thus requires further study. 3) In "Sasang Geumge Bibang", the first text ever to write only about separate medicinals and Classified Foods (食物類) of each constitution, there were examples of Nogeun and Mogeun's usage based on other pre-existing medical texts. 4) Because White Mogeun is classified as Tae-yangin medication in "Dongmu Yugo", but classified as a Taeeumin's medication in "Dongyi Soose Bowon" 'ChobonKwun' and "Sasang Geumge Bibang", there remains a controversy.

  • The research of the phrases related with physiology of stomach and spleen in the contents of Huang Di Nei Jing(黃帝內經) known as the Bible of oriental medicine will make a contribution to a deep understanding of disease of stomach and spleen and a proper clinical diagnosis and treatment of them. In this research of the most appropriate glosses recorded nine kinds of representative medical books including Huang Di Nei Jing Somoon(黃帝內經素問) of Wang Bing(王氷) were picked out: The summaries of the selected contents are as follows: 1. The word 'saliva(涎)' in 'the spleen controls saliva(脾爲涎)' can be viewed as a generic term referring to oral cavity secretion gland as well as the secretion fluid of salivary gland. 2. The phases 'a large reservoir(太倉)', barn organs', 'a reserboir of food stuff', 'a stomach as the market(胃爲之市)', etc mean the function of stomach to receive food(胃主受納). 3. The phase 'generation of five tastes(五味出焉)' means both 'the function of stomach to transform food into chyme(胃主腐熟)' and 'the channelling function of spleen.(脾主運化)' 4. The flowing of the food-Qi(食氣) into stomach brings about spreading Jung(精) into liver and then percolating Jung(精) flow into channel. The channel-Qi(脈氣) flows into lung through channel. As a result, all kinds of channels gather together in lung and Jung(精) is sent into skin and hair. The assembly of Jung(精) with skins and channels moves Qi(氣) into fu-organ and so jung(精) and mental activity(神明) in fu-organ(府) come to be in four organs(四臟). Then if Qi(氣) comes back to power balance unit(權衡) being in the state of equilibrium(權衡以平), the hole of Qi(氣口) comes to determine the matter of life and death through achieving Chun-quan-chi(-寸-關-尺). The above mentioned phrases means the digestion, asorption and transmission of food. When food is taken in stomach, Jung-Qi(精氣) comes to be over flowed upward into spleen, back into lung, finally downward into bladders through water-conduit(水道) controlled by lung. When water- Jung(水精) radiates into whole body with channels of five organs(五臟), both of them fit together with and yin-yang(陰-陽). Therefore, the grasping of the rise and decline of yin-yang(陰C-陽) is necessary to consult patients. The above mentioned phrases is properly viewed to designate the asorption, transmission and excretion of food. 5. Spleen controls flesh(脾之合肉也), the state of spleen is known by human lips, and what this means is that liver plays functions of spread and expansion(肝主疏泄). 6. The phrase 'Jung Jung'((中精)) in 'gallbladder dominates Jung jung(膽主中精)', which in one of the specific expression of 'liver plays functions of spread and expansion(肝主疏泄). 7. It is right that the phase 'The eleven organs in all are determined by gallbladder'(凡十,一臟取決於膽也) is correctly paraphrased as 'only one of ten organs, spleen, is determined by gallbladder'.(凡十,一臟取決於膽也), 8. The small intestine is an organ. which receives the materials digested and sends them out. This means that the function of transforming materials(化物) factually refers to that of separating clearity and blur(泌別淸濁). And it is also thought to have the function of ascending clearity and descending blur(升淸降濁), 9. A large intestine is a transmitting organ(傳導之官) from which a change comes out(變化出焉). the phrase 'change'(變化) in this sentence means both the intake of water and nutrition and the formation procedure of stool through excretion of mucocele.

A Study on the sources of Jang Hyeongwang's Theories of Li and Ch'i (장현광 성리설의 연원에 대한 고찰 - 나흠순 성리설과의 관련을 중심으로 -)

  • Jang Hyungang(張顯光, 1554~1570) was one of the very famous Neo-Confucianists of T'oegye School in the Chosun dynasty. Jang, nevertheless, refused to accept Toegye's theory and had developed his own theory called li-qi-gyeong-wi-seol(理氣經緯說). So the theory was very unique in the history of Korean Neo-Confucianism. He matained that Tao(道), meaning the universal process which all beings including the human must follow, is accomplished by the unity of li(理, principle) and qi(ch'i, 氣, material force). He compared li and qi to warp(經) and woof(緯). According to his explanation, Tao is fulfilled by combining li and qi, as a textile is woven the combination of warps and woofs. He could, for I know, succeed to emphasize the unity of li and qii through this theory. Lots of Scholars in the Chosun dynasty criticized Jang's theory of li and qi for regarding li and qi as one, and thought that the theory originated from Luo Ch'inshun(羅欽順, 1465~1547), a famous Neo-Confucianist of in Early Ming China. Luo Ch'inshun maintained li-qi metaphysical monism that li and qi is united entity. In this respect, it seems that Jang's theory is similar to Luo's. However, I think that there are very important differences between the two. It is true that the main characteristics of Jang's theory is the unified relations between li and qi in this world. In the system of his philosophy, nevertheless, the topological position of li and qi are different in grade each other. Jang insisted that li is a supreme being to be materialized and realized through the movement of qi'in the process of universal development. Qi is accordingly only a kind of matter which completes li. In this sense, Jang's theory can be regarded as li metaphysical monism that li is the only substance. It means that Jang Hyeongwang's theory is a great contrast to Luo Ch'inshun's li-qi metaphysical monism.

  • After bibliographic study on function of the brain(腦, nao) on the basis of zangxiang theory(藏象論的), the theory of visceral activities), the following conclusions were obtained: 1. Brain is the organ conglomerated with marrow(隨, sui) between Baihui(百會) and Fengfu(風府) 2. Brain has different function and names according to the parts. 3. Brain is on anatomical view the extraordinary organ(奇恒之府, qiheng zhi fu) and stores clarified air(氣, qi) of fresh air. 4. Brain is the places where the viral essence (精, jeong) of five viscera is activated. 5. Brain is the places where the vital essence congeries into the mind(神, shen) Yang form of the essence. 6. The mind converted from the brain emerges in the whole body the sensory organs and carries vital function. 7. Brain reservoirs the mind, while the heart(心, xm) is thought to make judgement inroyght the speculation on the outward stimulus of matter and give orders to the mind in the chest.

  • There are very necessary for three factors, that is sun(oxygen), temperature, nutritions to maintain life. when sun shines, skin temperature get up. after man eat food, core body temperature get higher. temperature is temperature. therefore, common characteristic of three factors is temperature. temperature is energy and qi(氣) in korean medicine. in addition to this one, pyretomedicine also insists that the key point of all disease development mechanism is also the overenough and poor of energy. In this aspects, writer submit this thesis about all disease development, neoplasia devolpment and metastasis as hypothesis.
