  • A protease, which had no tryptic and chymotryptic activity, was purified from the hepatopancreas of shrimp, P. japonicus, through ammonium sulfate fractionation, QSepharose ionic exchange, benzamidine Sepharose 6B affinity, and Sephacryl S-100 gel chromatography. Molecular weight (M.W.) of the protease was estimated to be 24 kDa by gel filtration and showed a single peptide band by sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). The protease had a low ratio of acidic to basic amino acids, which is different with pro teases from marine animals. The enzyme was partially inhibited by benzamidine, tosyl-L-lysine chioromethyl ketone (TLCK), phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride (PMSF), soybean trypsin inhibitor (SBTI), and pepstatin. The enzyme did not have any activity against benzoyl-D,L-arginine p-nitroanilide (BAPNA) or benzoyl-L-tyrosine ethyl ester (BTEE) which is a specific substrate of trypsin and chymotrypsin, respectively. However, the enzyme showed activity forward N-CBZ-L-tyrosine p-nitrophenyl ester (CBZ-Tyr-pNE), NCBZ-L-tryptophan p-nitrophenyl ester (CBZ-Trp-pNE), and N-CBZ-L-proline p-nitrophenyl ester (CBZ-Pro-pNE). The protease did not showed tryptic and chymotryptic activity, which was not reported in shrimp hepatopancreas.

  • The current Total Pollution Load Control (TPLC) sets the Target Water Quality (TWQ) by utilizing the delivery ratio, unit loads, and water quality modeling, it also allocates the watershed's permitted discharge load. Currently, common target pollutants of every unit watershed in TPLC are BOD and T-P. This study has reviewed the 1th and 2th of TWQ setting process for the Nakdong River 3th TWQ setting in Total Pollution Load Control (TPLC). As a result of review, 1th and 2th were divided into one management basin (mulgeum) for setting management goals. However, 3th was divided into six management basins (mulgeum, gnagjeong, geumho river, nam river, miryang river, end of nakdong river). The principle of management goal setting were to achieve the objective criteria of Medium Areas for the linkage of the water environment management policy. And Anti-Degredation (principle of preventing deterioration) were applied to the 3th TWQ. Also, additional indicators were considered in accordance with the reduction scenarios for the final management goals.

  • We present the physical properties of KIC 6220497 exhibiting multiperiodic pulsations from the Kepler photometry. The light curve synthesis represents that the eclipsing system is a semi-detached Algol with a mass ratio of q=0.243, an orbital inclination of i=77.3 deg, and a temperature difference of ${\Delta}T=3,372K$, in which the detached primary component fills its Roche lobe by ~87% and is about 1.6 times larger than the lobe-filling secondary. To detect reliable pulsation frequencies, we analyzed separately the Kepler light curve at the interval of an orbital period. Multiple frequency analyses of the eclipse-subtracted light residuals reveal 32 frequencies in the range of $0.75-20.22d^{-1}$ with semi-amplitudes between 0.27 and 4.55 mmag. Among these, four frequencies ($f_1$, $f_2$, $f_5$, $f_7$) may be attributed to pulsation modes, while the other frequencies can be harmonic and combination terms. The pulsation constants of 0.16-0.33 d and the period ratios of $P_{pul}/P_{orb}=0.042-0.089$ indicate that the primary component is a ${\delta}$ Sct pulsating star in p modes and, thus, KIC 6220497 is an oscillating eclipsing Algol (oEA) star. The dominant pulsation period of about 0.1174 d is considerably longer than the values given by the empirical relations between the pulsational and orbital periods. The surface gravity of log $g_1=3.78$ is significantly smaller than those of the other oEA stars with similar orbital periods. The pulsation period and the surface gravity of the pulsating primary demonstrate that KIC 6220497 would be the more evolved EB, compared with normal oEA stars.

  • The follow-up BVRI photometric observations of NSVS 1461538, which was discovered as an $Algol/{\beta}$ Lyr eclipsing variable by Hoffman, Harrison & McNamara (2009), were performed for three years from 2011 to 2013 by using the 61-cm telescope and CCD cameras of Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO). New light curves have deep depths both of the primary and secondary eclipses, rounded shapes outside eclipses and a strong O'Connell effect, indicating that NSVS 1461538 is a typical W UMa close binary system rather than an $Algol/{\beta}$ Lyr type binary star. A period study with all the timings shows that the orbital period may vary in a sinusoidal way with a period of about 5.6 yr and a small semi-amplitude of about 0.008 d. The cyclical period variation was interpreted as a light-time effect due to a tertiary body with a minimum mass of $0.66M{\odot}$. The first photometric solution with the Wilson-Devinney binary model shows that the system is a W-subtype contact binary with the mass ratio ($q=m_c/m_h$) of 3.46, orbit inclination of 85.6 deg and fill-out factor of 30%. From the existing empirical relationship between parameters, the absolute dimension was estimated. The masses and radii of the component stars are $0.28M{\odot}$ and $0.71R{\odot}$ for the less massive but hotter primary star, respectively, and $0.96M{\odot}$ and $1.21R{\odot}$ for the more massive secondary, respectively. Possible evolution of the system is discussed in the mass-radius and the mass-luminosity planes.

  • This study was designed to identify the effects of foot position on electromyographic (EMG) activity of the quadriceps femoris during maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) in standing. Twenty young adults who had not experienced any knee injuries were recruited. Their Q-angles were within a normal range. They were asked to stand in five different foot positions ($40^{\circ}$ externally rotated, $30^{\circ}$ internally rotated, neutral, $20^{\circ}$ plantarflexed, and $10^{\circ}$ dorsiflexed foot position). The EMG activities of the vastus lateralis (VL), rectus femoris (RF), and vastus medialis oblique (VMO) were recorded in standing by surface electrodes and normalized by MVC EMG values derived from manual muscle test. The normalized EMG activity levels (%MVC EMG) of muscles in the five foot positions were compared using repeated measures ANOVA. The EMG activity levels of the VL, RF, and VMO were the highest when foot was externally rotated. The EMG activity levels of the VL and RF were significantly different among the foot positions (p<.05). However, EMG activity levels of the VL, RF, VMO, and VMO/VL ratio did not show significant differences in each foot position (p> .05). The results suggest that the quadriceps femoris may be effectively activated by performing MVC at an externally rotated foot position. Therefore, the externally rotated foot position can be considered as an effective foot position for quadriceps femoris strengthening exercise. Further studies are needed to identify whether there are differences in the effects of foot position on muscle strength after MVC exercise of quadriceps femoris in standing.

  • Arched Corrugated Steel Roof (ACSR) is a kind of thin-walled steel shell, composing of arched panels with transverse small corrugations. Four full-scale W666 ACSR samples with 18m and 30m span were tested under full and half span static vertical uniform loads. Displacement, bearing capacities and failure modes of the four samples were measured. The web and bottom flange in ACSR with transverse small corrugations are simplified to anisotropic curved plates, and the equivalent tensile modulus, shear modulus and Poisson's ratio of 18m span ACSR were measured. Two 18 m-span W666 ACSR samples were analyzed with the Finite Element Analysis program ABAQUS. Base on the tests, the limit bearing capacity of ACSR is low, and for half span loading, it is 74-75% compared with the full span loading. When the testing load approached to the limit value, the bottom flange at the sample's bulge place locally buckled first, and then the whole arched roof collapsed suddenly. If the vertical loads apply along the full span, the deformation shape is symmetric, but the overall failure mode is asymmetric. For half span vertical loading, the deformation shape and the overall failure mode of the structure are asymmetric. The ACSR displacement under the vertical loads is large and the structural stiffness is low. There is a little difference between the FEM analysis results and testing data, showing the simplify method of small corrugations in ACSR and the building techniques of FEM models are rational and useful.

  • This paper presents an Implementation of digital high-performance position sensorless control system of Reluctance Synchronous Motor(RSM) drives with Direct Torque Control(DTC). The system consists of stator flux observer, speed and torque estimator, two digital hysteresis controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor(IGBT) voltage source inverter, and TMS320C31 DSP board. The stator flux observer Is based on the combined voltage and current model with stator flux feedback adaptive control of which inputs are current and voltage sensed on motor terminal for wide speed range. In order to prove the suggested sensorless control algorithm for industrial field application, we have some simulation and actual experiment at low and high speed range. The developed high-performance speed control by fully digital system are shown a good response characteristic of control results and high performance features using 1.0[kW] RSM having 2.57 reluctance ratio of $L_d/L_q$.

  • This study investigates the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and subsequent apoptosis in duced during somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) process of porcine SCNT embryos. Porcine SCNT and in vitro fertilization (IVF) embryos were sampled at 3 h and 20 h after SCNT or IVF and at the blastocyst stage for mRNA extraction. The x-box binding protein 1 (Xbp1) mRNA and the expressions of ER stress-associated genes were confirmed by RT-PCR or RT-qPCR. Apoptotic gene expression was analyzed by RT-PCR. Before commencing SCNT, somatic cells treated with tunicamycin (TM), an ER stress inducer, confirmed the splicing of Xbp1 mRNA and increased expressions of ER stress-associated genes. In all the embryonic stages, the SCNT embryos, when compared with the IVF embryos, showed slightly increased expression of spliced Xbp1 (Xbp1s) mRNA and significantly increased expression of ER stress-associated genes (p<0.05). In all stages, apoptotic gene expression was slightly higher in the SCNT embryos, but not significantly different from that of the IVF embryos except for the Bax/Bcl2L1 ratio in the 1-cell stage (p<0.05). The result of this study indicates that excessive ER stress can be induced by the SCNT process, which induce apoptosis of SCNT embryos.
