A 5-month-old, intact female pointer weighing 13 kg was referred for diagnosis and treatment of bilateral thoracic limb hyperflexion without trauma. After physical and radiographic examination, carpal laxity syndrome was diagnosed. A modified Robert-Jones bandage was applied and cage rest, including general puppy food, was prescribed for 3 weeks. The patient acquired normal gait with weight bearing, with non-remarkable findings on radiographic examination. The modified Robert-Jones bandage was sufficient to treat carpal laxity syndrome in this case.

A 5-month-old castrated male Bichon $Fris{\acute{e}}$ was presented with a subcutaneous mass on the occipital region. Anisocytosis, anisokaryosis, and binucleation were observed on the cytology, and the suspected diagnosis was sarcoma. There were no metastatic lesions on radiography or computed tomography. Surgical resection was performed and fibrosarcoma was diagnosed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry. This is a very rare case of a spontaneously occurring subcutaneous fibrosarcoma in a small breed puppy.

국내 출판시장 규모는 (문화체육부 통계자료) 세계 시장 규모 7위로, 아동도서 출판 이 세계 3위 수준에 달하는 출판현황은 그 양적 성장에 비하여 책이 종류와 장르의 은 한정되고 있는 상황이다. 외국의 아동 출판계는‘복합출판’으로 동화 한 종을 보더라도 인형, 오디오, 게임, CD롬 타이틀 등을 동시에 내놓는 상황으로, 심지어 기획단계 부터 비디오(만화영화)도 고려한다. 이에 비해 국내 아동출판의 대부분은 학습지가 점유하고 있다. 90년대 들어 고학력 부모들의 신중한 책 선택도 아동 출판계의 변화 배경으로 꼽힌다. 이런 풍요 속 빈곤의 문제점은 $^{(1)}$지난해(1997)나온, 우리 그림책의 1백 90여권이 번역물로, 실리적 측면에서 국내 기획물 이 빈약한 실정이다. “강아지 똥”은 국내기획의 창작 그림책 중 1만 5000부가 나가는 상업적 성공을 거둔 것을 보면, 기획력에 따라 우리 창작물도 얼마든지 시장을 확보할 수 있음을 제시한다. 자연이 소중함을 한국적 삽화와 곁들여 출판한“강아지 똥”창작그림동화책의 인기는 판매량 면에서도, 많은 독자들의 우리 책 선호를 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 우리나라 창작동화의 전망 찾기의 모토로서, 어린이 창작그림동화책 가운데 $^{(2)}$베스트셀러로서 외국 번역창작동화그림책“누가 내 머리에 똥 쌌어”과 우리의 창작그림동화책인“강아지 똥”을 그림동화 기획(주제, 글, 일러스트, 편집디자인)의 독창적 구성요소들을 중심으로 연구.검토하여, 세계 속의 한국의 창작그림동화책 만들기를 보다 전문적이고 예술성 높은 그림책의 내적 구조, 창의성(글과 그림)의 관계, 이미지의 풍부한 내용을 표현한 새로운 조형언어를 통하여 어린이를 위한 출판그림의 우수성 향상을 목적으로, 장르별로 문학적.예술적.교육적 요소를 포함한 우리 창작그림동화책 기획 및 발전의 계기를 부여함으로써, 우리 어린이에게 궁극적으로는 삶의 가치를 높여주는‘이야기가 담겨진 그림이 있는 책’인 좋은 창작그림동화책의 기획을 예시하고자 한다.

A 4 months old Golden retriever male dog was referred. By the history taking, it was kwon that the mass has been formed at the parietal region of the patient after fourth prevention inoculation. The appetite, urination and excretion were normal. The mass confirmation which was limited in the parietal region, did not seem to be enlargement of lymph node from physical examination palpation. Complete blood count and serum biochemical profiles were consistent with mild lymphocytosis, mild monocytosis, anisocytosis, regenerative anemia and elevated ALP, CPK. Survey radiographs indicated a mixed density in parietal region. We performed surgical resection and chemotherapy for cure and biopsy. Histological finding was periosteal fibrosarcoma. The application of cisplatin was topically used in operation site. Up to now the indication of recurrence is not visible.

In this paper. a robust gesture recognition system is designed and implemented to explore the communication methods between human and computer. Hand gestures in the proposed approach are used to communicate with a computer for actions of a high degree of freedom. The user does not need to wear any cumbersome devices like cyber-gloves. No assumption is made on whether the user is wearing any ornaments and whether the user is using the left or right hand gestures. Image segmentation based upon the skin-color and a shape analysis based upon the invariant moments are combined. The features are extracted and used for input vectors to a radial basis function networks(RBFN). Our "Puppy" robot is employed as a testbed. Preliminary results on a set of gestures show recognition rates of about 87% on the a real-time implementation.

Among the dogs boarding at an animal hospital, 10 dogs each were selected as a free boarding group and a kennel boarding group. Each group was further divided into 5 puppies and 5 mature dogs to examine the changes in their serum cortisol concentrations during boarding (5 days). We collected blood at day 8 and then analyzed the blood corpuscles, ran a biochemical serum test, and an additional urine test before boarding to check their health status. After collecting the dog's blood at 9:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 9:00 pm, we analyzed the cortisol concentration by the radioimmunoassay (RIA) method. The daily serum cortisol concentration at 9:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 9:00 pm, had a circadian rhythm during both the free and kennel boarding periods in both puppies and adults. Furthermore, the average daily serum cortisol concentration was significantly increased during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd day after free boarding in the puppy group (P < 0.01). In adults from the free boarding group, the serum cortisol concentration dramatically increased on the 1st day (P < 0.01), as well as on the 2nd and 3rd day (P < 0.05). Interestingly, the average daily serum cortisol concentration was significantly increased on the 1st day after kennel boarding as well as during the entire period of kennel boarding in the puppy group (P < 0.05). In the adult kennel boarding group, serum cortisol concentration was significantly increased during the whole kennel boarding period (P < 0.01). An interesting result was that circadian rhythmicity in the sum of the daily serum cortisol concentrations was present in the free boarding group, but not in the kennel boarding group in both puppies and adults. In summary, cortisol was released depending on the degree of stress in free and kennel boarded dogs. Taken together, these results suggest that cortisol, a stress hormone, should be maintained at physiological concentrations in a circadian rhythm when the animals are hospitalized.

This study was performed to investigate the possibility of superfecundation by surgical intrauterine artificial insemination in dogs of confirmed genetic pedigree. Artificial insemination was performed on 3 days after ovulation with $1.3{\times}$ $10^8$ spermatozoa. Five puppies were delivered on 60 days after insemination. The ratio of the number of newborns to the number of corpora lutea was 83.3% (5/6). Parentage analysis with 10 canine-specific microstatellite markers demonstrated that one puppy was genetically relative to the sire-A family and four puppies were genetically relative to the sire-B. The present study demonstrated that two kinds of puppies with different genetic pedigree can be produced by surgical uterine insemination of semen of individual dog into each uterine horn of a bitch.

A 3-month-old female Maltese puppy was hospitalized with persistent diarrhea in a local veterinary clinic. Blood chemistry and hematology profile were analyzed and fecal smear was examined. Diarrheal stools were examined in a diagnostic laboratory, using multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) against 23 diarrheal pathogens. Sequence analysis was performed using nested PCR amplicon of 18S ribosomal RNA. Coccidian oocysts were identified in the fecal smear. Although multiplex real-time PCR was positive for Cyclospora cayetanensis, the final diagnosis was Cystoisospora ohioensis infection, confirmed by phylogenetic analysis of 18S rRNA. To our knowledge, this the first case report of C. ohioensis in Korea, using microscopic examination and phylogenetic analysis.

A two-month-old female Yorkshire terrier was referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, College of Veterinary Medicine, Kyungpook national University. The patient was presented with a history of dyspnea, cough, exercise intolerance and abdominal distension, but she was appetence. In physical examination the puppy was coughed on slight tracheal compression. Rectal temperature, pulse and respiratory rate were normal, and grade 3/6 systolic murmur heard at the left heart base. The murmur was crescendo-decrescendo. Electrocardiography showed sinus arrhythmia, right-ventricular hypertrophy pattern, and right axis deviation. Thoracic radiography revealed cardiomegaly, bulging of the main pulmonary artery, and enlarged left side heart. Abdominal radiography revealed abdkominal distention. Echocardiography showed hypertrophy of right ventricle and turbulence in the pulmonary artery in parasternal oblique view. Subvalvular pulmonic stenosis was diagnosis based upon the clinical signs, physical examination, electrocardiography, radiography and echocardiography. We treated the patient with furosemide, enalapril and $\beta$-blocker. After the clinical signs of cough, abdominal distension and dyspnea were disappeared, she was on just $\beta$-blocker for prevention of occurrence of congestive heart failure. Now she was recovered her health, and she is not on any medication.
