Methods: The subject of the study were 561 community dwelling, and home-based cancer patients who were registered in 8 different public health centers in Daegu, Korea. The data collection was performed from September 28 to October 10, 2009. Analysis of data was done by using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA with SPSS program. Results: The mean score of cancer symptom index was 1.63. The level of fatigue was the highest in cancer symptom index. The mean score of perceived health status was 6.92. The exercise guidance was identified as the most frequently practiced nursing service. The scores of cancer symptom index were significantly different by economic status, marital status, living condition, the status of cancer, and metastasis. The scores of perceived health status was significantly different by education, economic status, type of social insurance, time of cancer diagnosis, status of cancer, and metastasis. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that it is necessary to develop a special nursing intervention differentiated according to the time points of cancer diagnosis, status of cancer. In addition, nurses should apply it in their practice to ameliorate fatigue for community dwelling cancer patients who are registered in public health center.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to present the outcomes of the district visiting nursing services. Method: We analyzed nursing records and inspected public health center data for evaluating nursing tasks. and conducted a telephone survey of 651 district inhabitants. Results: According to the result, the coverage of the district population, the rate of new registration and overall program activities increased. Meanwhile, accessibility of visiting health care, the level of health problem management, personal cognition and satisfaction concerning visiting nursing care increased, but there was little change in personal perception of health improvement. Furthermore, the status of client management was improved. In the analysis of participation in national cancer screening program, we found that there was twice higher participation in the district than others. Purpose: The aim of this study is to identify the expectations and perceptions of health center users as to the services. SERVQUAL scale was used for measurement of service quality. The purpose of this study is to offer baseline data for improving the quality of health care services. Methods: The subjects were users of a health center in S City in Kangwon-do; 170 people participated in this study. Results: Regarding service quality depending on general characteristics, the following results were obtained. First, there were statistically significant differences depending on the gender, purpose of visit, and satisfaction in the health center. Second, the services fell short of the expectations. Third, the quality of 'safe, accurate services' scored the highest, while 'empathy and friendliness' scored the lowest. Fourth, 'internal, external environment of the health center' scored the highest, while 'courtesy of staff' scored the lowest. There were no statistically significant differences. Conclusion: Based on the findings, the following are suggested. Second, a system allowing patients to understand and participate in their treatment should be developed.
This study was designed to identify the relationship between health perception and health behavior in nursing students and provide basic data for structuring the strategies of health promotion. The targets in this study were the 191 nursing students in nursing department of one national university in Chonju city. The data were collected during the period from 10 to 25 in Nov. 1995 by means of a structured questionnaire. Health perception was measured by the health perception questionnaire developed by Ware and translated by You. Health behavior was measured by health promotion questionnaire developed by Cho. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation using the $SPSS-PC^+$ program. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The mean health perception score of the subjects was 3.21; the level of health perception was relatively high. 2. The mean health behavior score of the subjects was 3.61; the level of health behavior was relatively high. 3. When health perception and health behavior was analyzed by Pearson correlation., it was found that the higher the degree of health perception, the better the reported health behavior(r=.1463, p=.022). 4. General characteristics related to health perception were attitude and school life(p<0.05). General characteristics related to health behavior were degree, religion, attitude and school life(p<0.05).
Purpose: This study was designed to describe outcomes of pain management, to identify pain intensity, pain management and barriers to pain management, and to test correlation among the variables in cancer patients who are registered in public health centers. Methods: By using a descriptive survey design, 3 instruments were used to collect data: the Numeric Rating Scale for pain, the Barriers Questionnaire-Korean version, and a one-item self-report tool about patient satisfaction. A sample of 190 patients with cancer was recruited from a public health center. Results: The mean rating for pain during the past 24 hours was mild and the mean score of barriers to pain management was 3.20. Patients were satisfied with pain management but they also had concerns it. A negative correlation was found among pain severity, pain relief and satisfaction of pain management. However, there was not significant correlation between the patient-related barriers to pain management and other variables. Conclusion: These results suggest that the intervention for cancer patients should focus not only on patient-related barriers to pain management, but also address health-care system related barriers.
Purpose: This study evaluated the effects of a cultural competence training program for public health nurses (PHNs) using intervention mapping. Methods: An embedded mixed method design was used. Forty-one PHNs (experimental: 21, control: 20) and forty marriage migrant women (MMW) (20, in each group) who were provided nursing care by PHN participated in the study. The experimental group was provided with a four-week cultural competence program consisting of an eight hour offline and online course, e-mail newsletters and social networking services (BAND). Transcultural Self-efficacy (TSE) of the PHNs, client-nurse trust, and satisfaction with nursing care of MMW were measured. Ten PHNs in the experimental group were interviewed after the experimental study. Results: The experimental group showed a significantly greater improvement in TSE, client-nurse trust, and satisfaction with nursing care than did the control group. Six themes emerged from qualitative data: (a) Recognizing cultural differences, (b) Being interested in the multicultural policy, (c) Trying to communicate in MMW's own language, (d) Providing medical information using internet and smart phone, (e) Embracing culturally diverse people into society, and (f) Requiring ongoing cultural competence training. Conclusion: Cultural competence training enabled PHNs to provide culturally competent care and contribute to MMW's health outcomes.

We selected screening tool. developed parent education materials, and educated the personnel of public health center. Result: 243 children were enrolled for developmental screening, and we detect the children with developmental delay and referred them for further evaluation. The proportion of developmental delayed children was approximately 2% of the enrolled children. Also, we analyzed the characteristics of enrolled children, and their parental needs and attitude on child rearing. Some problems in operation of developmental clinic were discussed. Results: The Results were as follows: 1) Top 10 diseases in the area accounted for 22.4% of total frequency for the most recent 5 years in university hospital, while 59.0% in public health center. 2) There were significant correlations between university hospital and public health center user's insurance type and place of residence: It showed higher use of public health center for free service beneficiaries residing in Seoul than residents in nearby or local area. The medical insurance types for hospital users were more various than those for public health center users. 3) The use of hospital for patients of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia was tended to concentrate in mostly autumn and winter since August 2000, while the cost of using public health center for those patients has been steadily reduced since July 2000. 4) As a result of cluster analysis, there were classified into three homogeneous groups according to the total cost of using public health service, age, and the frequency of use. 5) The association analysis on patients with chronic disease in public health center produced a detailed information on accompanying diseases related to the incidence rate of disease of high frequency due to aging, information on drug abuse and immune disease. Conclusion: The health care policy for local community should be evaluated continuously. And the policy to build an integrated data warehousing by public health indicator system and to enhance the faithfulness of data is required.
