  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of five personality factors and perceived stress on psychological well-being of college students. This study also examines the mediating role of perceived stress in the relationship between the five personality factors and psychological well-being of college students. Methods: The subjects of the study were 210 college students (94 males and 116 females), and a self-report questionnaire was conducted. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results: Three personality factors(openness, neuroticism, and agreeableness) and perceived stress were found to have a significant effect on college students' psychological well-being. Perceived stress partially mediated the relationship between personality factor 2(neuroticism and agreeableness) and psychological well-being. Conclusions: This study should be supported by health education or related efforts that can improve individual personality characteristics and cognitive flexibility by exploring intrapersonal factors that can affect psychological well-being of college students.

  • Background: To review the peer reviewed literature on the psychological aspects of the prostate cancer experience of men in Asia. Materials and Methods: Medline and PsycINFO, CINAHL, ProQuest, and Web of Science (1999 - November Week 4, 2012) were searched. Inclusion criteria were: included men with prostate cancer and/or their partners or caregivers who identify as Asian recruited in an Asian country; and assessed health-related quality of life, psychological and social adjustment relating to prostate cancer and published in English after $1^{st}$ January 1999 and prior to $30^{th}$ November, 2012. Study aims; design; quality; level of evidence, and key results were assessed. Results: 43 articles met all inclusion criteria and were retained for initial review. Of these most focussed on health-related QOL with only five evidence Level IV studies from Japan and Taiwan including a specific psychological focus. Of these, one was a cross-sectional case control study; three were cross-sectional descriptive quantitative designs; one was a cross-sectional descriptive qualitative study. From the data available, a substantive sub group of men with prostate cancer (approximately one third) in these countries experience clinically high psychological distress and decision regret. Conclusions: Research on the psychological needs of men with the increasingly prevalent condition of prostate cancer in Asian countries is scant with only a small number of low level evidence descriptive studies identified. Future research to underpin the development and evaluation of effective and culturally relevant psychological and supportive care interventions for such men is urgently needed.

  • Objectives : This study examined whether serious psychological distress (SPD) is associated with occupational injury among US employees. Methods : The employed population aged 18-64 years was examined (n=101,855) using data from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) 2000-2003. SPD was measured using the Kessler 6-item Psychological Distress Scale (K-6), a screening scale designed to identify persons with serious mental illness. The predicted marginal prevalence of psychological distress and occupational injury with the adjusted odds ratio were estimated using multiple logistic regression analyses. Results : The age-adjusted 3-month prevalence of occupational injury was $0.80{\pm}0.12%$ in workers with SPD, which was 37% greater than in workers without SPD ($0.58{\pm}0.03%$). The odds of occupational injury in workers with SPD were higher compared to workers without SPD (OR=1.34, 95% CI=0.93-1.92), after controlling for sex, age, race, education, occupation, and activity limitation by at least one medical condition. Male, service and blue collar occupation, and activity limiation by co-morbidity showed significantly higher odds of occupational injury for workers with SPD. Conclusions : The findings suggest that SPD accounts for an increased likelihood of occupational injury among US employees. A further longitudinal study is needed to differentiate the mechanism or causal pathways linking individual injury risk at the workplace, SPD, and socioeconomic factors.

This research was conducted to verify the relationships among mental health, self-forgiveness, and psychological well-being. Participants were 232 college students in an university in Seoul. Methods of data analysis were ANOVA, regression analysis, and path analysis. As a result of analyses, first, MMPI-2 clinical scales which showed significant correlation with psychological well-being were as follows: Hs, D, Pd, Pa, Pt, Sc, Si. Second, PSY-5 scales which showed significant correlation with psychological well-being were as follows: PSYC, NEGE, INTR. Third, stepwise regression analysis revealed that Sc, Si and Pd among clinical scales of MMPI-2 were associated with psychological well-being. Fourth, PSYC, NEGE and INTR among clinical scales of PSY-5 scales were associated with psychological well-being. Fifth, self-forgiveness had a significant mediating effect in the relationship between mental health and psychological well-being. Based on the results, implications related to importances of mental health and self-forgiveness were discussed for increasing psychological well-being of college students.

Self-rated oral health risk in relation to psychological health and 95% confidence interval are calculated through multi-variate regression analysis, and the results were as in the following. Self-rated oral health OR was the most when subjects had felt stressed. Toothache experience, OR was the most when subjects had suffered depression more than 2-weeks straight. In terms of mastication problem, OR was the most when subjects had had psychological consultation experience. In terms of TMJ symptom experience, OR was the most when subjects had suffered depression more than 2-weeks straight. In terms of talk problem, OR level was particularly high when subjects had had psychological consultation experience. Therefore, daily stress, depressed conditions, and psychological consultation experience have a correlation with self-rated oral health. developing a oral health promotion program considering psychological health would help those two domains.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the factors for self-rated health by gender in South Korean adolescents. Methods: The population consisted of a nationally representative sample of adolescents(n= 37,414 boys, 37,522 girls) in middle and high school who completed the Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey(KYRBWS) in 2011. Using logistic regression analysis, self-rated health was regressed on all predictors, including socioeconomic factors, behavioral and psychological factors. All analysis were conducted according to gender. Results: Girls showed more negative self rated health than boys (respectively 28.4%, 40.7%). Adolescent perceptions of health was associated with socioeconomic status, behavioral and psychological factors. Logistic regression analysis revealed that physical activity, body weight perception, despair, level of happiness and stress were the main influencing factors. Conclusions: The findings show that adolescent perceptions of their health are associated with overall sense of functioning, which are associated with health behaviors and psychological factors. Further interventions that focus on improving health behaviors and psychological health may make adolescents more healthy.
