Nutritive Value and Utilization of Perennial Grasses Intercropped with Soybean Fodder by Crossbred Heifers in Humid-subtropics of Himachal Pradesh

  • A study was carried out to investigate the nutritive value and utilization of hybrid sorghum and perennial grass species viz. setaria (Setaria anceps) and hybrid napier when intercropped with soybean by growing Jersey crossbred heifers. Fifteen growing crossbred heifers (Jersey${\times}$Red Sindhi) of between 7-10 months age and pre-trial average body weight of 49-50 kg were divided on the basis of weight in to three treatment groups viz. $T_1$-hybrid sorghum+soybean, $T_2$-setaria+soybean and $T_3$-hybrid napier+soybean in a completely randomized block design. Intercropped forages were harvested fresh, chaffed and mixed before they were offered to the heifers. Chemical composition of the herbage, dry matter intake (DMI), body weight gain and nutrient digestibility co-efficients were estimated. The herbage mixtures had crude protein (CP) content in the range of 11.87 to 13.86% and ether extract (EE) contents were 2.91 to 3.11%, respectively. The herbage mixtures were rich in minerals (ash). The gross energy (kcal/g DM) was higher in hybrid napier+soybean, while hybrid sorghum+soybean and setaria+soybean herbage mixtures had lower value for gross energy. The hybrid sorghum+soybean and setaria+soybean herbage mixtures had higher contents of NDF, ADF, cellulose, lignin and silica as compared to that of hybrid napier+soybean herbage mixture. The heifers fed hybrid napier+soybean herbage mixture had significantly (p<0.05) higher $DMI\;g/kg\;W^{0.75}$ ($97.41{\pm}4.34$) as compared to hybrid sorghum+soybean ($88.31{\pm}2.66$) and setaria+soybean ($79.29{\pm}1.06$) herbage mixtures. Nutrients digestibility, DCP percent, DCP intake and nitrogen balance were significantly (p<0.05) higher in the heifers fed on hybrid napier+soybean herbage mixture. There was a significant (p<0.05) difference among different herbage mixtures in TDN. The heifers on setaria+soybean herbage mixture had lower average body weight gain (g/day) than those on hybrid sorghum+soybean and hybrid napier+soybean herbage mixtures. Data obtained in this experiment demonstrated that herbage mixture of hybrid napier+soybean was better than hybrid sorghum+soybean and setaria+soybean herbage mixtures in the nutrition of growing heifers. It had highest nutritive value, better digestibility co-efficients which showed better growth rate and higher feed efficiency. In ranking, hybrid napier+soybean herbage mixture was better followed by hybrid sorghum+soybean and setaria+soybean in nutritive value in the parameters studied. For future wasteland development program in humid-sub tropics of Himachal Pradesh hybrid napier and its intercropping with soybean is recommended for general adoption because of its better adaptability and higher nutritive value.

중합도별 gum류 가수분해 올리고당과 urea관련화합물과의 반응혼합물이 항산화능에 미치는 영향 (Antioxidant Action of Reaction Mixtures of Gums Hydrolysates and Urea Derivatives)

  • $100^{\circ}C$에서 반응시켜 2, 4, 6, 8시간의 갈변도 변화는 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose$와 urea의 반응혼합물이 시간의 경과함에 따라 강한 착색도의 증가를 나타냈으나 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액은 착색속도가 늦었다. 같은 조건하에서 $Gal^3Man_4$와 urea 관련화합물의 각 반응혼합물의 갈변도를 나타낸 것으로 urea가 강한 착색도의 중가를 보였고 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액은 비교적 높은 착색도를 보였다. DP 7의 galactosyl mannooligosaccharide와의 각 반응혼합물의 갈변도는 urea의 반응액이 강한 착색을 보였으며 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액의 순으로 착색를 나타내었다. 반응혼합물의 TLC 결과에서 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose$와 urea의 반응혼합물 이외에 phenylthiourea, thiourea의 반응액은 새로운 화합물이 생성되었고, $Gal^3Man_4$와 D.P 7 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와의 반응혼합물에서는 모든 반응액에서 새로운 화합물이 출현되었다. 반응혼합물의 환원력은 urea관련화합물 중에서 특히 phenylthiourea, thiourea가 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose,\;Gal^3Man_4$, DP 7의 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와의 반응혼합물에서 강한 환원력이 나타났다. Linoleic acid에 대한 반응혼합물의 항산화력 측정에서 ${\beta}-1,4-mannobiose$와 thiourea의 반응혼합물의 항산화력이 Ascorbic acid(AsA)수준의 항산화력을 나타내었고, $Gal^3Man_4$와 thiourea, phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물은 AsA와 유사한 항산화능을 나타내었다. DP 7의 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와 thiourea, phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물의 항산화력은 AsA에 미치지는 못하였다. ${\beta}-1,4-Mannobiose$와 thiourea, phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물이 강한 전자공여능을 나타내고 있고, $Gal^3Man_4$와 phenylthiourea의 반응혼합물 및 D.P 7의 galactosyl manooligosaccharide와 phenylthiourea와의 반응혼합물이 전자공여능을 나타내고 있다.

Protein and Phosphorus Availabilities of Five Different Dietary Protein Sources in Juvenile Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) as Determined by Growth Performance and Phosphorus Retention

  • The present study aims to evaluate protein and phosphorus availabilities of five different dietary protein sources during the 6-week feeding trial in juvenile olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus as determined by growth performance and phosphorus retention. Five diets containing blood meal (BM), poultry by-product (PBP), squid liver powder (SLP), feather meal (FM) and soybean meal (SM) were prepared by mixing a basal diet (BD) with one of five test ingredients at the ratio of 7 to 3. As a reference diet, BD contains three different protein sources such as white fish meal, casein and gelatin. After 2 weeks of the conditioning period, fish initially averaging 2.7$\pm$0.02g (mean$\pm$SD) were randomly distributed into each aquarium as a group of 30 fish reared in the recirculating system. Fish of triplicate groups were fed one of six experimental diets (BD+five test diet). After 6-week feeding trial, pro- tein efficency ratio (PER) of fish fed BM diet was the lowest in experiment groups. While fish fed PBP diet showed a significant higher PER as compared to the FM diet, and fish fed SLP diet and BD were a higher PER than did fish fed PBP diet. However, there was no significant difference in PER among fish fed SLP diet, BD and SM diet, and between SM diet and PBP diet. Phosphorus retention efficiency of bone (PR $E_{b}$) of fish fed BM diet was the lowest in all the diets, and fish fed FM diet showed a higher PE $R_{b}$ than fish fed BD and SM diet. However, there was no significant difference in PER among fish fed FM diet, SLP diet and PBP diet, and among SLP diet, PBP diet, SM diet and BD. These results indicate that SLP could be a suitable protein source for low pollution diets of olive flounder in the future fish feeds market. Furthermore, PBP and SM are available protein source to reduce P waste in the oliver flounder aquaculture with the use of proper mixture of other protein sources and more processing to improve protein availibility of these.ese.

EFFECT OF PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF CONCENTRATE WITH UREA-MOLASSES-MINERAL LICK IN GROWING ANIMAL RATION ON GROWTH AND ECONOMICS OF FEEDING

  • Fifteen Karan-Swiss male calves of 9-12 months of age were divided into three groups of five each in a randomised block design. Animals in group I were fed wheat straw ad lib. and concentrate mixture according to their requirements, while in group II and III the animals were fed with 1/3 of the required concentrate mixture replaced by UMM licks 'Ex' and 'F', respectively. The DMI (kg/day as well as per 100 kg b.wt.) were similar (p > 0.05) among different groups of animals, however, the digestibility of DM as well as OM enhanced from $52.85{\pm}1.48$ to $58.36{\pm}1.89$ and $55.33{\pm}1.48$ to $60.12{\pm}1.75$, respectively. Growth rates of the calves were $533.8{\pm}27.25$, $532.3{\pm}42.24$ and $538.4{\pm}18.68$ g/d in groups I, II and ill (p > 0.05), respectively. Body composition and N balances of the animals were not affected by supplementation of UMM licks, however, protein retention efficiency was higher in group III ($82.57{\pm}2.54$) though nonsignificant. Feed cost/day was reduced from Rs. 7.92 (group I) to Rs. 4.62 (group II) and Rs. 3.44 (group III). Hence, partial replacement of concentrates by UMM licks reduced the cost of feeding of growing calves by 41.7 to 56.6% without affecting the growth performance.

Product Characteristics of Comminuted Sausages as Affected by Various Fat and Moisture Combinations

  • Comminuted sausages with reduced fat (25-0%) and increased moisture (19-44%) combinations were manufactured, and their chemical composition, and physico-chemical, textural and sensory properties were determined for the selection of the most palatable sausage treatment. The moisture and fat contents of the comminuted sausages varied from 55-79% and 26.4-2.14%, respectively, whereas, the protein content was relatively constant at 13.5-14.5%. Expressible moisture (EM, %) decreased with increased fat addition, and the high-fat control sausage (~25% fat) had lower EM than those with lower than 15% fat addition. Increased fat level also increased Hunter L values (lightness) of sausage samples taken from the core, and differences in lightness were observed between 15 and 25% fat level at the initial mixture. Sausages without fat addition had different textural characteristics from high-fat control sausages in most texture profile analysis (TPA) values. However, no differences in TPA values were observed among treatments with added fat (<25%) in the formulation. Results of the sensory evaluation showed that the most appropriate fat content of comminuted sausages to have better sensory properties ranged from 15-20% of added fat at the initial mixture. These results also indicated that decreased fat and increased moisture contents produce sausages with higher EM and lower lightness. Comminuted sausages without fat addition had different textural characteristics from the high-fat control.

Preparation for Protein Separation of an Ion-Exchange Polymeric Stationary Phase Presenting Amino Acid and Amine Units Through Surface Graft Polymerization

  • Ion-exchange polymeric stationary phases presenting amino acid and amino groups were prepared by the surface grafting of glycidyl methacrylate onto a silica gel surface and subsequent amination. Three kinds of amino acids-L-arginine (Arg), D-lysine (Lys), and D-histine (His)-were used in this study. An ion-exchange polymeric stationary phase presenting ethylene diamine (EDA) was also prepared by surface graft polymerization. Separation of the model proteins bovine serum albumin (BSA), chick egg albumin (CEA), and hemoglobin (Hb) was performed using the amino acid- and amine-derived columns. In separating the CEA/BSA mixture, the resolution time of BSA was longer than that of CEA when using the EDA column, whereas the resolution time of BSA was shorter than that of CEA when using the Arg, Lys, and His columns. In the separation of the Hb/BSA mixture, the resolution time of BSA was longer than that of Hb in the EDA column, whereas the resolution time of BSA was shorter than that of Hb in the amino acid columns (D-Lys, L-Arg, and D-His).

Effects of Korean Radish on DSS-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Mice

  • The present study aimed to investigate the comparative evaluation of pharmacological efficacy between sulfasalazine alone and combination with herbal medicine on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced UC in mice. Balb/c mice received 5% DSS in drinking water for 7 days to induce colitis. Animals were divided into five groups (n = 9): group I-normal group, group II-DSS control group, group III-DSS + sulfasalazine (30 mg/kg), group IV-DSS + sulfasalazine (60 mg/kg), group V-DSS + sulfasalazine (30 mg/kg) + Radish Extract mixture (30 mg /kg) (SRE). DSS-treated mice developed symptoms similar to those of human UC, such as severe bloody diarrhea and weight loss. SRE supplementation, as well as sulfasalazine, suppressed colonic length and mucosal inflammatory infiltration. In addition, SRE treatment significantly reduced the expression of pro-inflammatory signaling moleculesthrough suppression both mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK) and nuclear factor-kappa B ($NF-{\kappa}B$) signaling pathways, and prevented the apoptosis of colon. Moreover, SRE administration significantly led to the up-regulation of anti-oxidant enzyme including SOD and Catalase. This is the first report that Radish extract mixture combined with sulfasalazine protects against experimental UC via the inhibition of both inflammation and apoptosis, very similar to the standard-of-care sulfasalazine.

Polyphenol mixture of a native Korean variety of Artemisia argyi H. (Seomae mugwort) and its anti-inflammatory effects

  • In the present study, a polyphenolic mixture was isolated from Seomae mugwort (SM; a native Korean variety of Artemisia argyi H.) via extraction with aqueous 70% methanol followed by the elution of ethyl acetate over a silica gel column. Each polyphenolic compound was analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry, and compared with the literature. In addition to the 14 characterized components, one hydroxycinnamate, six flavonoids, and one lignan were reported for the first time, to the best our knowledge, in Artemisia argyi H. The anti-inflammatory properties of SM polyphenols were studied in lipopolysaccharide-treated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. The SM polyphenols attenuated the activation of macrophages via the inhibition of nitric oxide production, nuclear factor-κB activation, the mRNA expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase, tumor necrosis factor α and interleukin-1β, and the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase. Our results suggested that SM polyphenols may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of inflammatory-related diseases.

해양식량자원의 가공조건별 영양적 품질평가 -2. 명태연육 단백질품질에 미치는 냉동변성방지제의 영향- (Effects of Processing Conditions on Nutritional Qualities of Seafood -2. Effects of Cryoprotectants on the Protein Qualities of Pollock Surimi-)

  • 명태연육 냉동변성을 억제할 수 있는 냉동변성방지제의 적정량을 알아보기 위하여 crystalline sorbitol을 비롯한 세가지의 변성방지제 및 sorbitol/sucrose 혼합제제를 첨가하 여 $-25^{\circ}C$에서 16주간 저장했을 때의 단백질품질 변화를 실험하였다. $8\%$ 수준의 sucrose-sorbitol 혼합제제(1:1, w/w)를 $0.2\%$ Na-pyrophosphate/ Na-triphosphate(1:1)와 병용하였을 때 drip loss가 가장 적었으며, 염용성단백질량은 가장 많았다. 또한 혼합제제를 사용했을 때는 trypsin inhibitor량, 단백질소화율 및 단백효율비의 변화가 거의 없어 단백질품질 보전에 효과적이었으나, 냉동변성방지제를 처리하지 않았을 경우에는 단백효율비와 소화율은 급격히 떨어졌었다. Polyphosphate나 maltodextrin의 경우에는 처리 농도가 증가하여도 소화율저하 방지에는 별효과가 없었으나, $4{\sim}6\%$의 sorbitol, 또는 $10\%$수준의 sucrose는 polyphosphate를 병용하지 않아도 소화율저하는 효과적으로 막을 수 있었다. $8\%$ 수준의 sorbitol/sucrose 혼합제제(5:3, w/w)처리가 소화율 보전효과로 볼 때 냉동연육의 단백질품질저하 방지에 가장 효과적이었다.

논에서 이탈리안 라이그라스와 두과 사료작물 혼파에 따른 생산성 및 사료가치 비교 (Dry Matter Yield and Forage Quality at Mixture of Annual Legumes and Italian ryegrass on Paddy Field)

  • 본 연구는 논에서 이탈리안 라이그라스와 두과 사료작물 혼파에 의한 생산성을 구명코자 전라남도농업기술원에서 2004년부터 2008년까지 수행하였다. 처리내용은 이탈리안 라이그라스(코윈어리 품종) 단파에 자운영, forage pea, crimson clover 그리고 hairy vetch을 혼파하는 5처리 3반복으로 실시하였다. 그리고 이탈리안 라이그라스와 두과 사료작물 혼파비율은 단파 기준으로 70:30 비율로 혼파하였다. 논에서 이탈리안 라이그라스 단파와 두과 사료작물 혼파에 의한 건물률은 23.6~26.8%였고 혼파에 따른 건물률은 비슷하였다. 그리고 이탈리안 라이그라스와 forage pea와 혼파에 의한 생초 및 조단백질 수량은 각각 ha당 40,100 kg, 그리고 625 kg/ha으로 유의적으로 많았다(p<0.05). 또한 건물수량은 이탈리안 라이그라스와 forage pea 그리고 hairy vetch 혼파시 ha당 각각 9,470 kg 그리고 9,500 kg 유의적으로 많았다(p<0.05). 이탈리안 라이그라스와 forage pea 혼파 토양의 유효인산 함량이 78 mg /kg으로 많았으며, 이탈리안 라이그라스 단파 K 함량보다 혼파시 0.52~0.88$cmol^+$/kg으로 훨씬 높았다. 따라서 논에서 이탈리안 라이그라스와 forage pea을 혼파하여 건물수량, 조단백질 수량의 증가 및 재배의 안정성 제고에 효과적이었으며, 이탈리안 라이그라스 단파보다는 혼파재배가 바람직한 것으로 평가되었다.
