This study aims to examine the effectiveness of electromagnetic pulse shielding in cast-in-place protective shelters using corrugated metal-plates, and then reviews their usability for the Republic of Korea Army. The Korea Corps of Engineering has evaluated corrugated metal-plates as a construction material for cast-in-place structures, which have to defend against mechanical impacts as well as electromagnetic pulses. Corrugated metal-plate is known as a superb mechanical protective material, so much so that it has been employed in ammunition magazines and artillery platforms in the armed forces. Moreover, as a metal, such as steel and copper, it is universally recognized as one of the most effective electromagnetic pulse shielding materials. In addition to effectively shielding from electromagnetic pulses and protecting against mechanical impacts, corrugated metal-plates should prove to be an appropriate construction material for the cast-in-place protective shelter in terms of construction availability and economic feasibility. The shielding effectiveness of the suggested structures is examined based on MIL-STD 188-125-1. A few frequency bands need an increase of 15~30dB in shielding effectiveness because of unbidden apertures caused by flaws associated with welding, assembling, and material deformation. However, allowing for the approximately 40dB of shielding provided by soil; the examined structure, which is buried underground, can offset its shortcomings sufficiently.

One area in which composites have been used rather extensively is for fabricating pressure vessel. These structures can be readily manufactured by filament winding, which is, as far as composite fabrication techniques are concerned, a relatively inexpensive method for producing composite structures. Unfortunately, the higher strength material and fabrication costs are not the only disadvantages of fiber-reinforced polymer composites when they are compared to metals. Additionally, these materials tend to exhibit brittle behavior. This is of particular concern when they are subjected to a low-velocity impact during routine handling a significant amount of structural damage can be introduced into the composites. The goals of this paper are to understand the impact damage behavior and identify the effect of surface coating materials on impact resistance in filament wound composite pressure vessels. For these, a series of low velocity impact tests was performed on specimens cutting from the full scale pressure vessel by the instrumented impact testing machine. The specimens are classified into two types with and without surface protective material. The visualization for impact damage is made by metallurgical microscope. Based on the impact force history and damage, the resistance parameters were employed and its validity in identifying the damage resistance of pressure vessel was reviewed. As the results, the impact resistance of the filament wound composites and its dependency on the protective material were evaluated quantitatively.
Metallic structures in the oil and gas production undergo severe degradation due to sweet and sour corrosion caused by the presence of $CO_2$ and $H_2S$ in the fluid environment. The corrosion behavior of 304 austenitic stainless was investigated in the presence of varying concentrations of $CO_2$ or $H_2S$ and $CO_2+H_2S$ to understand the effect of the parameters either individually or in combination. Potentiodynamic polarization study revealed that a small amount of $CO_2$ aided in the formation of calcareous deposit of protective layer on passive film of 304 steel, while increase in $CO_2$ concentration ruptured the layer resulting in sweet corrosion. The presence of $S^{2-}$ damaged the passive and protective layer of the steel and higher levels increased the degradation rate. Electrochemical impedance studies revealed lower polarization resistance and impedance at higher concentration of $CO_2$ or $H_2S$, supporting the outcomes of polarization study. XRD analysis revealed different types of iron carbides and iron sulphides corresponding to sweet and sour corrosion as the corrosion products, respectively. SEM analysis revealed the presence of uniform, localized and sulphide cracking in sour corrosion and general corrosion with protective carbide layer amid for sweet corrosion.

The changes in secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) and work function($\Phi$$_{\omega}$) have been studied on the surface of MgO protective layer aster plasma(Ar. $O_2$) treatment using ${\gamma}$-focused ion beam (${\gamma}$-FIB) system. The values of ${\gamma}$ varied as follows: $O_2$-treated MgO > Ar-treated MgO > Non-treated MgO, and the work functions varied in the reverse order. The result indicates that both the physical etching and the chemical reaction of $O_2$-plasma removed the contaminating materials from the surface of MgO.

AC PDP with MgO protective layer coated with the optimum evaporation rate of $5{\AA}/s$ can generate more enhanced efficiency through the vacuum in-line sealing process. However, the optimized process conditions still require the optimum driving scheme on the ramp-up and ramp-down slope of the reset waveform for enhancing the efficiency. In this paper, for the in-situ vacuum sealed PDP with the optimum evaporation rate of MgO protective layer, the address delay time was investigated with various slopes of ramp waveform during a reset ramp-up and ramp-down period. In this study, the minimum statistical delay time was obtained at the ramp-up rate of $6.0 V/{\mu}s$ and the ramp-down rate of $0.7 V/{\mu}s$ of the reset waveform.
In this study, measurement of thermal conductivity of multilayer thin dielectric film has been conducted via differential 3$\omega$ method. Also, verification of differential 3$\omega$ method has been accomplished with various proposed criteria. The target film for measurement is 300 nm silicon dioxide and this thin film is covered with various thicknesses of upper protective layer. The upper protective layer is inserted between the target film and the heater line for purpose of electrical insulator or anti-oxidation barrier since the target film may be a good electrical conductor or a well-oxidizing material. However, the verification of differential 3$\omega$ method has not been conducted. Thus we have shown that the measurement of thermal conductivity of thin films with upper protective layer via differential 3$\omega$ method is verified to be reliable as long as the proposed preconditions are satisfied. Experimental results show that the experimental errors tend to increase with aspect ratio between upper protective layer thickness and width of the heater line due to heat spreading effect.
In this paper we proposed an easy method to calculate the thickness of primary protective barrier for radiographic equipment. The concrete was selected for the shielding material. The area of protective barrier was divided into a controlled area and a noncontrolled area. For the computation of thickness, the data in NCRP Report 49 and 51 was used. For radiographic equipments whose maximum tubevoltages are 100 and 150 kVp, the thicknesses of concrete were calculated as a function of distance. From the calculated data, four analytical models were acquired by fitting an exponential decay function. From the equations acquired by this study, the thickness of primary protective barrier can be calculated approximately.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the awareness of occupational hazards and personal protective equipment use among dental hygienists (DHs). Methods: A total of 271 self-administered questionnaires were obtained from 280 DHs working at dental hospitals or clinics in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. Results: The occupational hazards included work involving dust (94.1%), volatile substances (86.0%), noise (97.0%), and light-curing units (96.7%). The proportion of dental hygiene tasks that participants perceived as harmful were 42.4%, 51.7%, 9.2%, and 31.4% in the same order as above. The proportion of participants who used dust-proof masks during work involving dust was 1.1%. Those who wore gas-proof masks and gloves for work using volatile substances were 0.7% and 31.2%, respectively. Participants who used goggles for work involving light-curing units were 31.0%. None of the participants used ear plugs for work involving noise. A total of 22.9% of the participants recognized the Material Safety Data Sheet, while 79.7% had never been educated about harmful work environments. Conclusion: When compared to exposure status and perception of occupational hazards, the level of protective equipment use was very low. Extra measures to increase DHs' use of personal protective equipment are necessary.
Despite advancements in the development of synthetic fibers and materials that provide better insulation, fire burn injuries remain a significant issue. To ensure adequate protection, clothing and equipment must be selected on the basis of performance. There are different standards like ISO standards applicable to each of the various types of clothing used by fire fighters. But, in most cases, the tests are performed in the conditions of high heat flux exposure, the clothing material can be destroyed easily. Thus the effective way to investigate the protective performance for the low (radiant) heat flux conditions should be needed. Therefore improved RPP (Radiant Protective Performance) test method based on the onset of pain burn injury was suggested. Experiments were performed to verify the proposed method with current protective clothing for fire fighters and the transient heat transfer characteristics were identified, also. Moreover, several protective performance indices were acquired from experimental results to analyze their relations.
